ACT III: VENI, VIDI, VICI - Jeremiah VS Hyde

"A religious shrine? Are you serious?" When Hyde had signed up for a tournament, and that the arenas were randomly generated, it wasn't expecting to be standing here before what appeared to be a shrine of some sort. "Well, I guess it's like those kung-fu movies we used to watch when we were bored," Sable spoke up, getting a small nod from Hyde. Guess that made sense. Just pretend it was a martial arts movie and they would be fine. A shame they weren't masters of 'wire-fu', or this would really be an interesting match.

"Well then, let's get this match started shall we? I've got some bits riding on this fight, and the people want to see someone's ass getting kicked." He pulled out his digivice, as the screen started to glow, a bright light engulfing both Weiss and Sable. Their forms shifted, growing larger, gaining a second set of legs, and when the light faded, there stood not two Pawn Chessmon, but two Knight Chessmon, ready for a battle. Satisfied with the digivolution, Hyde put away the digivice, and drew out his datagun. Weiss glanced back at his tamer. "You're fighting too sir?" Hyde gave him a look. "Um, duh. I'm not letting you guys fight this all by yourselves now am I?" "As much as we appreciate the sentiment, isn't it a little unfair? Three of us versus one?"

Hyde gave a shrug. "You read the rules right? Anything's fair game. Besides, it ain't three on one. Both tamer and digimon are getting involved, right?" Weiss sighed, "Fair enough." He then turned, waiting for their opponent. Sable was bouncing in excitement, ready to get this fight started.

This was an interesting idea, one that Jeremiah didn't really think too much about before signing up. Either he got a lot of prize money for destroying everyone, or he found out a way that Kong needed to improve. Either way, he was going to get a decent result. He walked into the Arena, a Japanese-style Shrine. Not much of interest, it wouldn't survive long anyway. Instead of focusing on his surroundings, he decided that his opponent was vastly more important. This man, Hyde, was known to Jeremiah. Apparently D.A.T.S had been chasing him for a while, and had amassed a vast reservoir of information against him. He checked his Digivice, using the D.A.T.S data network to obtain all information he needed, on Hyde, and more importantly, his digimon. "Hmph. What a waste of time. Kong, stay in rookie for this." The little monkey let out a screech of acquiescence, before turning to face the two Knightmon. As the two, along with the human, closed in on him, he could feel his instincts take over, his patended style of combat, Gorilla Warfare activating. Instead of waiting for the Knightmons to attack, he stood in front of the two and loosed a barrage of pellets from his slingshot, beginning the fight. Jeremiah, on the other hand, had noticed Hyde pull out a weapon, and promptly pulled out his own, a custom built bow. He drew, pulled and loosed in a split second, the arrow travelling straight for Hydes arm. "That's not very fair now, is it?"

Something was definitely off about this situation. I mean, apart from his opponent's attitude. A waste of time huh? Hyde was going to love knocking this pretentious bastard silly. But what really got Hyde was that his digimon was remaining in rookie form. A rookie against two champions was normally a one sided fight, unless the rookie had something up its sleeve. Hyde was not going to take any chances with this one. His tamer looked like the sort of guy who had smarts about him. He wasn't making any stupid decisions.

He then saw the monkey digimon quickly bring up his slingshot, with the tamer bringing up a bow.

"Split!"

Hyde dove to the side just as the two Knight Chessmon leaped in different directions, the digimon's pellets hitting the ground where they used to be. Knight Chessmon were renowned for their mobility and jumping power, something witch Hyde hoped would give them an advantage in this fight. At the same time, Jeremiah's arrow, while thankfully missing Hyde's arm, did nick the man's sleeve. Hyde had to admit, he was glad the tamer was getting in on this fight. He could respect those who fought alongside their digimon, instead of just sitting back and letting them do all the work.

"Not a bad shot," Hyde said with a smile, taking aim with his weapon as he ran to the side, trying to cirlce the arena, "Let's see if you can keep it up!" He fired a couple of shots at Jeremiah as he ran. When it came to fighting ranged targets, staying in one place was the stupidest thing you could do.

Meanwhile, the two Knight Chessmon, having split off, were moving to flank the small monkey digimon. A good tactic when having superior numbers, even when against a stronger opponent, was to spread out and keep seperate. That way, the enemy could only focus their attention on one opponent at a time. As they closed in Weiss lept into the air, while Salbe brought her lance down low as she charged.

"Gallop Whole!"

"Knight Lancer!"

The plan was simple, Sable's attack knocking the monkey up into the air to be hit by Weiss'. The two of course positioned themselves so that if their attacks missed, they wouldn't strike eachother. They had been working together for too long to make such a rookie mistake.

Typical. An arrow, wasted. Quite unfortunate really. This battle was already taking up more time than he wanted it to. The sooner it ended, the better. Not only did his attack miss, but it seemed like all of Kongs did as well. How... unfortunate. Those KnightChessmon seemed to be more capable than originally anticipated. Though, he didn't believe it would be any trouble for Kong. He pulled out a card, a single item that would render Kong practically untouchable. As he swiped it, Kongs back started to glow, and his slingshot seemed to morph, changing shape until it resembled a large black lance, with an open tip and a trigger mechanism. Out of his back grew to red wings, red digizoid armored wings that he quickly put to good use, launching backwards into the sky as the two KnightChessmon attempted to flank him. Examons card came into effect, and Kong quickly used his newfound air superiority to good use. Taking out his specially made ammunition, he released an explosive charge towards Weiss. Even if Weiss somehow managed to dodge in midair, the angle Kong was at would send in a beeline towards Sable, and if it hit the ground, it would cause a large explosion, damaging anyone in a large radius around it. Meanwhile, Jeremiah watched as Hyde ran around the arena. "Here's some trivia for you. I have the crest of Knowledge." He smiled at the man, a cold, calculating smirk that didn't reach his eyes. "Now, unlike some with the crest, I put my knowledge to good use. And I know a lot about you, Mr. Hyde. D.A.T.S has been keeping track on every single thing you do." He watched as Hyde pulled out his gun, not flinching at all. He started to pace around the arena, his long strides keeping him opposite Hyde. He pulled again, releasing so the arrow would fly just in front of Hyde, and would hit him if he kept running at the exact same pace he had started on. As soon as Hyde aimed and fired, He faltered his rhythm, taking a step back instead. It was mildly effective, only one of the bullets landing, and that being absorbed by the body armor he wore under his clothes.

Being in the air, and thus unable to move, gave little else for Weiss to do but take the attack head on, a thunderous explosion ringing throughout the arena as the Knight Chessmon was sent crashing to the ground. Sable paused, watching in a panic as her brother fell. "Weiss!" Needless to saw, Hyde was surprised. That monkey was much stronger than a rookie level digimon should be, even with that card boosting him. He shouldn't have expected anything less from a tamer claiming to have the crest of knowledge. Speaking of which, Hyde noticed the bullet land, but give little effect. Body armour. Just great. As he let loose the arrow, Hyde tried to stop, but couldn't. The most he could do was turn his head so the arrow grazed the left side of his face. He let out a sharp growl as a hand came up to the wound. The bastard had aimed at his head! "Good thing I already lost the eye," he gave a rueful smirk, before glaring at Jeremiah. "The crest of knowledge huh? And yet you just made a very, very stupid mistake.

You just went and pissed me off!"

And then Hyde did something unexpected and crazy. He began charging straight towards Jeremiah, running through the arena where the digimon were fighting. "Weiss! Cover me!" he shouted out, seeing the white Knight Chessmon climbing to his feet, "Sable! Distract the monkey!" "Gotcha sir!" Sable yelled out before suddenly leaping towards the monkey digimon, trying to strike him with her lance. Meanwhile, with a limping gait, Weiss moved in to intercept Hyde. Hyde held his weapon out, firing in Jeremiah's direction, intent on stopping him from launching any arrows while he tried to close the gap.

The plan was working quite well, in Jeremiahs view. The leaping digimon had been hit, and quite badly injured by the looks of it. All he needed to do was take out the rest, and it would be over. However, plans do not always go as you would like them to, and there is always one part that you can never predict. Human error. And what happened next certainly shocked Jeremiah. Hyde ran at him. Sprinting, straight at him, shooting him. It was so stupid, such an idiotic, suicidal attack, that Jeremiah didn't react for a second. And, unfortunately, by the time he did react, it was too late. Bullets had started flying at him, the first one hitting him square in the chest. The boddy armor cracked, only being able to take two such hits, before shattering, leaving him completely exposed. The rest of the bullets, thrown wide by the sprinting, had missed him so far. He pulled his bow out, aiming at the oncoming charger. As he was about to release, a stray bullet flew past, embedding itself in his shoulder. He let out a cry of pain, accidentally loosing, and the arrow flew wild, missing everything. Kong, however, was not able to react in time to protect him. A small crown had started to form on his head, and as the burden of royalty increaed, his agility decreased along with it. Unable to escape the swift KnightChessmon keeping his attention, he instead decided for an all out attack, sending out blast after blast of energy from his spear at the attacking KnightChessmon.

As insane as the tactic was, it seemed to be working. Hyde had not only managed to shatter Jeremiah's body armour, but had also managed to wound his shoulder, causing his attack to arc wide. That, combined with Hyde's long stride, and the fact that the enemy digimon had been successfully distracted by Sable, allowed Hyde to close in very quickly on the enemy tamer. He dove towards Jeremiah, fully intent on tackling him to the ground and give the beating the smug bastard deserved. Knowledge could be a powerful thing, but if you didn't have the body to back it up, it was really just a waste.

Meanwhile, seeing as Hyde had his end of the fight covered, Weiss broke off, turning his attention back to the fight going on between the flying monkey and his twin. It seemed that he had given up on basic tactics and was now going for an all out assault on his twin, firing at her with his lance. Sable was trying to avoid the attacks, though some were connecting while others missed. While they weren't as bad as the blow he had landed on Weiss, it was starting to wear on the black Knight Chessmon.

Weiss was not going to stand back and let his twin be assaulted like that.

Gripping his lance tightly, his body still aching from his own attack, he lept up, intent on catching the monkey digimon with his lance and forcing him to the ground, all the while preparing himself for what might come his way.

"Defensive Maneuvers!"

Jeremiah ground his teeth together, and glared at the person nearly at him. He pulled out his cards, swiping three more. Goliath, Stance and Adrenaline. Stance and Adrenaline extra 100% defense and power respectively, and Goliath increased Kongs size, putting him at a normal humans height, and increasing power as well. Last but not least, he swiped his 5th and final card, granting Kong the defensive bonuses of Owryumons Golden Armor. When Hyde was nearly upon him, Jeremiah held his hand up in front of him. "I ask to be removed from the fight due to injuries." He smiled at the man in front of him as he turned around, and left the arena, leaving just Kong to fight. "Knowledge is knowing when you're already beaten. And knowledge is knowing when you're not needed in the fight. And these are both for different people." He laughed as he left, going into the medical area for treatment. Kong was quite sluggish now, having four stacks of Royalty slowing him down. Some of the attacks were hitting, though he managed to block most of them with his wings. He gave one large surge of power, and blew himself away as he saw the other KnightChessmon coming towards him. As he flew away, he activated one of his abilities, turning himself invisible. As he landed, he quickly hopped around to a completely different position, and started charging his sniper shot, aiming at Weiss. After a few moments, it had charged, and he consumed one of his stacks of Royalty, but activated it's second function. The bullet launched out of the lance, and the homing properties activated, as it targeted Weiss. Aiming straight for the head, Kong was attempting to take out one of the twins right here and now.

Just before Hyde could tackle the smug bastard, he requested he step out of the fight. The damn coward! After all his boasting, he was stepping out when shit got serious. He had half a mind to grab the smug prick, drag him back in and start beating on him. The crowd would probably love that. Instead, Hyde stood back, growling in frustration as the smug bastard left, laughing.

And then, right before Jeremiah stepped out, Hyde pulled his gun and fired, aiming for the retreating tamer's leg. "Knowledge is also knowing the meaning of the words "No Rules" asshole!" he called out. If he was going to limp off to get medical treatment, he was going to need it dammit!

Meanwhile, things weren't going so well for the twins. With the added boost the cards gave him, Kong was proving much stronger than before, though oddly enough much slower. To add to it all, the damn monkey was invisible now! The two Knight Chessmon were tried to find any trace of the damn flying ape. Suddenly, Sable saw something fly out of nowhere. "Weiss! Look out!" Sable yelled out. Weiss looked over just in time to see the attack coming towards him, bringing his hands up to stop the blast from hitting him in the head. The Knight Chessmon's lance was destroyed by the blast, sending the digimon falling to the floor. "Hey! Stop hurting my brother you damn monkey!" Sable yelled out in anger as she charged at here the attack had come from "Precision Strike" If she managed to hit, she was going to slow that damn monkey down even further.

Meanwhile, Hyde ran over to Weiss. The digimon's data was glitching, trying to hold itself together. Damn, that attack had taken a load off. He quickly rummaged through his coat before pulling out something. "Here," he said, offering to him, "Eat this. Keep your strength up just a little longer buddy." Weiss looked at the offering. A Mcmonburger? Taking the burger, Weiss quickly gulped it down, feeling some strength returning, his data stabilizing. "I don't know how much longer I can hold up sir," he said, as Weiss stepped back to put distance between himself and Weiss. "You just need to hold on long enough," Weiss called out.

The last shot was just slightly too late, Jeremiah crossing the barrier just in time, the bullet reflecting off. He turned around, bowing to the other tamer, before leaving. Kong, on the other hand, was in a much more dangerous situation. As soon as the attack left his lance, the invisiblity faded, and the remaining KnightChessmon attacked. It was far too fast for Kong to be able to dodge, and so he simply hunkered down. The Red Chrome Digizoid wings, however, had their own idea, and wrapped around him, forming a shielded cocoon. As the digimon's attack landed, it's power quickly diminished, having to pierce through the two layers of armor caused from the wing, and not only that, it had to penetrate through his armor. While the lance did hit him, it had lost most of its force, and had done very little damage on the monkey. However, it was now lodged in his wings and armor, and he quickly made use of that. With one hand, he grabbed onto the lance, using his increased strength to try to hold it in place. And with his other, he opened a gap in his wings, and aimed the lance at the KnightChessmon. Using the the four stacks of Royalty it had built up, it let loose its last explosive shell, blasting it straight into the KnightChessmons chest at point blank range. With the royalty used up, he finally found himself free to move, though the lance seemed to have slowed him down somewhat.

Hyde could only watch as not only did that damn monkey catch Sable's attack, but countered with an attack of his own, blasting Sable point blank. Over the blast, Hyde could hear Sable cry out as the attack connected, and through the smoke that followed, Hyde saw Sable, reduced to a Motimon, bounce along the ground. Thank god the attack hadn't killed her! But it was clear the black Knight Chessmon was out of the fight.

"Damn you!" Weiss yelled out in anger, charging towards the monkey. Weiss lept up into the air, aiming to jump down onto the damn ape. "Gallop Whole!"

As Weiss attacked the monkey, Hyde ran over towards the downed Sable, firing a couple of shots to distract the monkey as he scooped her up, making a run for boundary. He quickly set her down outside the barrier. "You did good. Now rest," he said, before turning to face the fight between Weiss and the monkey.

It was not long left now. With on twin down, the other was now at half power. Kong was still stronger than normal, even with the other twin out, though there was not long left. It was do or die, and Kong was not going to let himself be beaten. While he could have quite easily finished the motimon off, he was not as brutal as Jeremiah, and decided that there was no need, instead letting the little digimon get carried to safety. It was probably more useful for him to focus on the remaining KnightChessmon at this point anyway. The one that was currently charging at him. As the digimon jumped into the air, the Monmon dived forward, using his wings as cover against the fire from Hyde. He would, hopefully, land underneath the Knightchessmon, and would point the lance straight up, bracing it against the ground. If the KnightChessmon landed on the lance, it would impale him, and Kong would release a barage of blasts./div]

If seeing Sable get blasted at point blank range by the monkey was bad enough, now Hyde had to watch as the already badly injured Weiss was impaled by the monkey's fake lance. All Hyde could do was watch as his second partner was blasted repeatedly from point blank range, his body unable to sustain himself before, in a flurry of data, Weiss was reverted back into a Motimon as well.

And Hyde was not going to stand by and let this damn monkey kill his weakened partner. He had managed to get Sable out, he would do the same for Weiss. With a glare made of stone, he walking towards the armored monkey, opening fire. "Get the hell away from him!" he yelled out. Despite both his partners down, Hyde was not going to call it quits. He had been in worse situations than this, and always he had fought beside his partners. And he wasn't going to back out on them now!

[Wiess is out of the battle. It's now Kong Vs Hyde!]

As the last KnightChessmon turned into data, so did the weapon and wings Kong was equipped with. Examons card had used up all its energy, and it disappeared, along with the Adrenaline, Stance, and Goliath cards. He shrunk back to normal size, leaving him with only the added protection of the armor. He left the pieces of armor on, absorbing most of the impact from the bullets as he walked towards the Motimon. He kept his eyes on Hyde as he leaned down, gently picking the little pink blob up, and wrapped his arms around it, as if protecting it in case one of the bullets went near it. While he was worried about Hyde attacking him, he walked forward, until he was in front of him, and held the Motimon out to the tamer. He screeched at the human, unable to actually talk, but not really wanting to fight anymore. While digimon lose their pride if they get devolved, humans could get severely injured during the battle. If Hyde took the motimon, Kong would quickly scamper away to the other side of the arena, and if he didn't take the Motimon, he would just put it down and do the same thing. Either way, when he was far enough away, he would pull out his slingshot and aim at the man. Kong didn't really want to fight anymore, and hoped that the man would just back off now.

Hyde paused in his shooting when he noticed his shots weren't having much effect due to the armour the monkey still wore, but there was something else. Kong was trying to protect the downed Weiss. The tamer watched as Kong slowly approached him, setting the injured Motimon down before him. Any anger he had for the monkey digimon seemed to wash away. "Thank you," he said, crouching down and scooping up the little digimon. Quietly, he turned and walked towards the barrier, gently setting him down beside his sister. "S-Sorry...sir..." Weiss said weakly. His tamer gave him a surprisingly caring smile. "It's ok. You did good buddy. You both did. Now you two rest. I've got this."

He stood up, and then called over his shoulder. "I gotta admit. You're not such a bad little monkey. It's a shame you have such a cowardly little bastard for a tamer." He gave a small smile, "You held up pretty well. Honestly, I'm sort of tempted to just walk away right now and give you the win." He then looked down at the datagun in his hands. "Unfortunately, I can't exactly give up, now can I? I've got a bit of a stake in this, and I ain't talking about bits either. Besides, I don't want to give that smug bastard the satisfaction of winning when he wasn't even here for half of it." Hyde then began to turn, seeing that Kong had his slingshot out and aimed at him. A smile spread across Hyde's face. "Though I can see you've figured that out already. Oh, don't give me that look. I've been in tough situations before. I'm a lot tougher than you think." He gave a chuckle as he tapped at his eyepatch, somewhat some dry blood caked on it from when Jeremiah's arrow grazed him.

Hyde slowly turned until he was fully facing the monkey digimon, a smile on his face. It wasn't a malevolent smirk, but one that said that this was going to be fun. "So, shall we go one more round?" he chuckled.

Everything seemed to stand still for a moment as they faced off. It was almost like something out of a western, only instead of a cowboy there was a monkey. One might have expected a tumbleweed to roll between the.

"DRAW!"

Hyde suddenly dove to the side, gun out and firing. Though made a little tricky by his movement, the man was aiming to try and shoot the slingshot out of Kong's hand, as well as some other shots to try and disable him. He had seen this digimon take down his two partners by himself, but dammit, if Hyde was going to go down, he was going to go down shooting!
