Set a Fire in Me [Digimental Quest]

Adelaide and her partner made their way through the high-waisted grass that made up part Domain Savannah and part Arid Plains. Addi's grey eyes flashed around the barren wasteland before glancing down at her partner. It had been Patch's suggestion that they head out and explore the rest of the Digital World He seemed to be itching to discover something or get into a fight. Addi bit her lip, thinking about the couple of fights he had been in, especially the one in the forest, where he had just digivolved.

Addi mentally calculated that they had been partners for about a week and a half now, which most of it had been spent traveling. They had wondered up the coast line before coming up to Triton City where they had met up with the first human and digimon Adelaide had seen coming into this new world, a girl named Reikiko and her partner named Kuro. They were both fierce fighters and tough to boot.

Patch glanced at his tamer, tail flicking side to side curiously. "Addi, are you okay?" he asked, his amber eyes narrow slightly.

Addi frowned before glancing at her partner and settling onto the ground for a moment of rest. "Yeah, I guess...I just keep thinking about all the battles I saw at that tournament." Her thoughts flashed back to seeing Reikiko's battle and flushed. They had been so fierce, but she could hardly ever see herself becoming that brave. "I just...I don't know if I want to fight or not," she whispered, tears burning at the back of her eyes. "I-I wanna go home.."

Patch blinked, obviously taken aback. While they had only been together about week or two, this was the first time he had seen Addi getting this frustrated. "But Addi, we have to fight. I have to get stronger."

Adelaide's icy gaze flashed up to meet Patch's molten amber ones, narrowing slightly before she bunched up her fists to cheeks and rubbed. Patch sighed, his ears falling slightly at the sight of how distressed his tamer was. He put another paw softly on her shoulder. "Addi, I...I need you so I can get stronger, so I can protect you."

The raven-haired teen glanced up at her partner, his features momentarily blurred with the tears. Patch brought a clawed hand up to his tamer's shoulder. "Addi, I-I really need you to just be brave," he said. Addi narrowed her eyes, her mouth tight in a grimace as she was about to object to being brave, but her expression quickly shifted as a rumbling took the duo by surprise.

Patch whirled around, his claws sparkling as he braced himself, a hiss rippling past his lips. Over the hill, two Gazimon descended, snickering as they formed a circle around the tamer and rookie. Patch hissed as they slowly circled in closer. One suddenly lashed out, claws swinging. Patch jumped back and dashed forward on all fours before lunging with his claws.

Addi's eyes widened as the second one, taking advantage of the distraction from the first one, lunged at her partner. "Patch!" she yelled, clutching her digivice. Patch swiveled around, blinking momentarily before the second Gazimon struck him in the chest and they rolled through the grass. "Patch! No! You have to get up! You have to fight!" she screamed.

A bright light shone out of the hill, catching the teen's attention. She blinked as a light shot out of her Digivice, capturing whatever was on the hill. Once the light faded, she stared down at her digivice, down at the spinning sun-like emblem on the screen. It only took a second before it clicked in the teen's mind as she remembered what some of the other tamer's she had encountered had talked about.

A determined expression became set on the teen's face as she held out of her digivice. "Okay Patch! I know you can do it!" A bright orange light shot out of her digivice, enveloping her partner in an orange-and-red swirling orb.

"BlackGatomon armor shinka...Lynxmon!"

Addi lowered her hand, blinking away spots as the fire descended, revealing a digimon completely covered in fire. "Patch..." she whispered, before setting her jaw in a determined expression once more, clenching her glowing digivice. "Go for it!"

Patch nodded before turning towards the now cowering Gazimon. A grin spread across his burning face. "Thermal Mane!" he cried as the flames on his body swirled and rose up like a wave before crashing down on the two unsuspecting rookies.

A bright light shone as Patch de-digivolved, reverting back to his rookie form. He quickly swung around and loped over to his tamer. She reached out, hugging him tightly before whispering, "I knew you could do it.."

He pushed away slightly, his amber eyes glowing. "You gave me the strength, Addi. You gave me courage to fight."
