Falling...
Falling...
Falling...
Adelaide's eyes flickered upwards, tears smearing across her vision as the wind pushed and pulled her through the air. A soft sigh escaped the teen's lips as she let her body succumb to the vertigo, tilting back as she continued to plummet. This was definitely the most vivid falling dream she had ever experienced, and even then, she could have sworn that she stopped having those when she was around six or seven.
Images flickered through her mind, causing her to wince, pain flaring around her temples. Addi remembered darkness settling over her room as she continued her studies, her eyes fluttering shut momentarily only to flash back open to her dimly lit laptop screen. Dreary cerulean eyes rolled over to where a buzzing tickled her ears. A purple LED light blinked at Avery from above the screen, signaling she had received a message, the little dot smearing across her vision as she squinted her eyes in the darkness. Her tired gaze flitted briefly back to her laptop, tilting her head to make sense of the gibberish on screen.
Addi's head tilted again to meet the cool smooth surface of her desk, but a bright light made her wince. She could have sworn she had dimmed her computer screen. She glanced up, one icy azure eye glaring at the computer screen, but both eyes snapped open at the site of the swirling vortex on her computer screen. Light bled out, a blue webbed netting stretching out and reaching, tangling onto her skin until her own flesh was becoming just as it, clear and nearly intangible. She was vaguely aware of every electronic device in her room trilling. A momentary thought of her father dozing off off in the adjoining hotel room flitted through her mind.
Wind rushed past her ear as she shot down the rainbow-swirling tunnel. Addi's small body curved and slid with the tunnel, much as when she had slid down the closed-in slide at the park at a young age. And suddenly the tunnel dropped away to reveal a bright blue sky, which wheeled up and around as she fell. She flipped over and over until she saw the gray and brown ground close approaching. For the first time, a scream tore through Addi's throat as she clenched her eyes shot, fists crossing over her chest.
And then darkness...

Terabyte city... with the city so close in sight Reikiko couldn't help but wonder about the upcoming tournament. Of course she planned to participate in the event, in the end this was the perfect opportunity for her to ask certain questions to the people who possessed the knowledge she desired. It was for that reason the cloaked girl had decided to spend the last few days training after a certain event had unfolded.
Unfortunately she found that outside the Dark Area the threat of wild predators or troublemakers was far less significant than she had initially thought, or was it merely a sign she was growing more powerful alongside Kuro? A cursory glance at her partner made Reikiko's heart fill with pride and confidence, when suddenly her partner asked her with a hint of excitement in his tone.
"Hey Aneki, do humans fly?"
The question caused the girl to blink in confusion, shaking her head firmly in response. Such a thought was obviously rather silly to even imagine!
"No Kuro, humans don't fly."
However, what followed was a comment the girl had not expected in the least.
"Then Aneki, what about that girl?"
Following the raised nail Kuro pointed at the sky the girl saw a small figure in the distance, seemingly rocketing toward the surface at a drastic pace. Did humans suddenly obtain the means to fly? Obviously they didn't!
"That's what we call 'falling'..."
The scream filled with despair that came from the girl felt like the desperate cry for a savior, the sound being like music to her ears as she nodded toward the black raptor and started to dart toward the direction she was falling toward.
"Kuro, Dark Armor Energize!"
A black flash of light came from her partner as he seemingly swelled up in size, turning into a large Antlyamon that grasped a hold of the girl before leaping high into the air, extending the arm that held his tamer and with a light upwards sweep tossed her toward the girl. Fortunately for both of them Rei was quite athletic, and if there was one thing she was good at, then it was catching airborne projectiles, even if they were girls!
As Reikiko attempted to grasp a hold of the descending girl the Antlyamon would have served as a cushion to grab a hold of as they descended back toward the surface with a soft thud, the nimble killer bunny lowering both of them onto the ground.
"Speaking of a flashy entree, you won that award for sure... Are you alright Ojou-chan?"
----
Wasn't sure if Adelaide was actually 'falling from the sky' or a hill or something, so I went with the more fun first option ^^ feel free if you want me to change that.

| they all got the same heartbeat, but her's is falling beind
Adelaide's body made a soft thump as she was caught by the girl and gently lowered to the ground. Her eyes fluttered open, slits of ice blue before widening and flickering about, searching the sky. She sighed, letting her eyes drift back close. "What a strange dream.." she murmured, before her eyes shot back open, searching the face of the girl that was before her.
"Oh, hello," she demurred, blushing lightly as her social anxiety kicked in. Of course even in a dream she would be awkward. The girl seemed friendly enough, seeing as how she had just caught her out of the sky. Addi's eyes flicked to the girl's own orbs, noticing that they were colored differently, but of course she didn't make a comment. The girl did seem to have an almost Eastern heritage-like look to her though, at least compared to Addi's own Italian features. She didn't want to be rude to her new dream person, but this also left her wondering when she had become so imaginative to conjure up such a person.
A voice came from off the side. Addi glanced over her shoulder, jolting at the sight of the odd looking rabbit. "I-" she stammered momentarily before saying. "I don't remember dreaming about rabbits before," she drawled in that Southern accent before glancing down anxiously at her hands.
A small sound of surprise made it's way out of her throat as she tilted and turned a small circular device. It gleamed in her small hands and was purple to boot! Her favorite color. The little device beeped at a slowly constant, but what flickered across the screen was what caught the teen's attention. An egg? Definitely a strange dream.

After she helped the girl get onto her feet safely Reikiko listened to her words, words that seemed to suggest she considered this all a dream. The innocence of it made her chuckle, partly because it reminded her of herself in the not so distant past. This world did truly often seem to resemble a dream, or a nightmare depending on how one perceived it.
"A dream? I'm afraid it's time for you to wake up then, this is not a dream. If you do doubt my words, feel free to pinch your cheeks."
Grinning briefly she waited for the girl to take in her words, realizing how outlandish the whole 'being send into another world might had seemed for someone else', even she initially had some difficulties considering the seriousness of it all, until she learned the truth of this world.
"You're in a place called the 'Digital World', quite close to a city known as Terabyte."
Still, as the girl continued, seemingly looking at Kuro and calling him a 'rabbit' the Antlyamon tilted his head to the side in confusion. A rabbit? Nobody ever had the guts to compare him to those fluffy abominations of doom and chaos! Perhaps it was for that reason he turned toward Reikiko to ask in a worried tone.
"Aneki, did she hit her head?"
A chuckle followed from the tamer who shook her head in response as she made a light waving gesture with her hand, causing the large bunny to devolve back into his rookie form.
"That's not a rabbit but a Digimon, my partner in fact. He is a Blackagumon, nicknamed Kuro while my name is Reikiko, Tsukino Reikiko. A pleasure to meet you."
Giving her a playful little wave to accompany the greeting she overheard the little beeping sound, making her breathe out a sigh of relief.
"Heh, seems you're lucky that your digivice shown up alongside you. You'd be in a world of despair if you didn't. Nevertheless, your partner seems absent?"
Smiling toward the girl she secretly pondered about what type of reason she had to save this stranger, well surely she could find a reason or a purpose for her actions, but for the time being it was time to play the role of a nice lass!
"Try to take a look at your Digivice, the object you heard beeping just now. It should show you the direction of where your partner will be at. It might still be an egg or freshly hatched Digimon, so you'll need to meet them soon."

Addi's eyes widened as the girl informed her this was no dream. The teen shook her head, letting a curtain of raven hair falling around her face. Of course the dream girl would say this wasn't a dream, that's what made it a dream, right? As the other girl suggested, Addi pinched her cheeks, just a little too hard. Not enough to actually hurt, but enough to sting...
"Oh," she murmured, blinking. "But..." she seemed to struggle with words. Then the girl would go on to explain that she was in some sort of "'digital world" and point out that they were close to a city. Addi lifted her azure gaze and sure enough, there was a city on the horizon. Probably not even just a hour away if on foot. Suddenly, the teen was very aware of her surroundings, taking in that she was seated in a sea of tall, wavering grass.
Movement in her peripheral vision caused her to look up, a shock of emotion flitting across her young features as the "rabbit" shifted into something she could only described as a much smaller, black lizard-like creature. And he had just asked if she hit her head!
The girl let out a chuckle then proceeded to introduce herself and her partner. "Partner?" Adelaide mulled the word over in her head. She was now certain that she was definitely not in a dreams, seeing as she had never dreamed anything this bizarre. No, her creativity went into lyric-writing.
"I'm...I'm Ade, Adelaide," she muttered. "Winters." A flash of a shy smile crept across her lips. "You can call me Addi, if you want..." she stammered out the last part, her smile dropping off. The black-haired teen then glanced down at the device in her hand that the other girl, Reikiko, was referring to as a Digivice. She flipped it around in her palm, glancing at the bare side. It seemed that the only adornment on the little device was the screen and a few buttons.
She held it out and sure enough, a trilling sounded, a small arrow swinging around several times before finally settling on a direction, which she was unsure if it was north, south, east or west. She glanced at Reikiko uncertainly, straight white teeth worrying at her bottom lip as she glanced between the lizard and the girl. "You...you mean I'm going to have one those? A Digimon? Does he look like that?" she asked, referring to the BlackAgumon. All these words came out quickly in a rush. "Dio mio," she whispered very quietly.
Adelaide scrambled to her feet, grasping her backpack and swinging it onto her back before stepping out a few feet, still trying to determine the direction the arrow was pointing. Was she really playing around with all this? It was crazy! But really, what choice did she have? Glancing back at Reikiko, she gave an uncertain half-shrug before saying, "I...think maybe it's pointing off this way." And if the other girl was ready, she would trek off in that general direction.

"Yep, you'll be getting a Digimon also Addi, albeit there is no guarantee yours will be the same as mine. You see, Digimon are like humans in the sense there are so many different species and distinctively different personalities. However, Kuro is a bit of a special type, because his kin rarely bond with tamers."
It was the truth, in the end the Blackagumon were considered a normally violent and unruly type of creature, so to see one paired with a tamer was quite a rare sight, and yet Kuro grinned confidently, raising a paw into the air to draw attention toward him as he spoke.
"That's because Aneki is awesome!"
She smiled briefly at her companion's compliments before turning her focus back at Addi, seemingly looking with a hint of interest as the girl's digivice seemed to show her the way toward her own partner. She briefly looked sideways at Kuro who shrugged lightly before she returned the gesture with a smile and followed after the girl. She was a bit curious to see what type of meeting this girl was going to have, in the end to witness the start of someone's adventure could be an enlightening experience in its own way. And judging from how her mark didn't seem to react so violently as it did before, she genuinely doubted this girl was going to walk her path, at least not yet.
"You have a pretty cute accent, you know? It's something you don't hear often where I live, also in case you're worried: you didn't suddenly learn Japanese. It's something about this world that seems to translate our languages to one you can comprehend."
While she explained this in a cheerful tone she motioned toward the digivice the girl was holding.
"However, my advice would be to always keep your digivice close to you, in the future it will become a catalyst of power for the bond between you and your partner. You see, the Digital World is just like our real world, in the sense that there does exist some danger, and people can still die. That's why I'd suggest that after we find your partner that you stay near the city, a lot of peacekeepers and such to ensure you'll be safe. At least until your Digimon grows strong enough to protect the two of you."
She mused the last bit while they were still walking, seemingly enjoying the little bits of knowledge she was providing, made her feel like a proper senpai.
"The change in form you saw Kuro do earlier is a process known as Digivolve, just like a worm can turn into a cocoon and hatch as a butterfly, Digimon possess a certain metamorphosis ability, or rather they can evolve and devolve the stronger their bond with their partner becomes. Then you also got several different 'types' of evolution, but that's something you don't need to worry about just yet."
Phew, she certainly was getting the hang of this acting role, even her smile seemed genuinely bright and warm, not a hint of her deception within it. Not even a single darker thought emerged on the surface while she had put on the mask of a helpful young lady in a dangerous new world. And to be honest? She was loving this feeling of trickery and deception.

Addi listened intently to Rekiko's explanation of all the various creatures, her light gaze flitting to the BlackAgumon. It seemed friendly enough, waving a massive paw at her. SHe waved timidly back, drawing in a deep breath to steady herself.
She trekked up and down hills. This type of area seemed fairly much like fields back in her own home. Her blue eyes flitted about, trying to look for anything that might hint at where this partner would be. So what kind of creature would she end up? She shuddered involuntarily at the thoughts of anything similar to the massive rabbit from earlier...even though he did help save her from falling earlier.
A blush rippled across the teen's fair cheeks. "Oh, I'm from America. I was raised in Nashville, it's in the southern part, but I recently moved in with my dad, and he's Italian. We were, were staying in Washington D.C for a while before heading out." Addi raised an eyebrow at the girl's comment. "Huh, well actually you sound like you're talkin' English," she replied back.
Addi glanced down at the Digivice in her hand that continued to lead her towards her partner. So this little device would be the connecting factor between her and her partner. Reikiko dove into an explanation about how the creatures could change, explaining why her own partner looked so different from the form she was earlier introduced to. "Oh," she muttered, her brain beginning to hurt from all this. While it seemed to have finally settled in that she was in a different, country, world, deminsion, or whatever, she was still wrapping her head around these creatures.
Thankfully, she figured that she was getting closer to what she needed to find since the beeping was getting louder and more insistent, the little arrow flashing erratically. "So, Reikiko, have you been...here a long time?" she asked, uncertainty coloring her voice.

The concern in the girl's voice when she asked her about how long she had been within the digital world was kind of adorable, that worried feeling that she might had been trapped within a foreign plane of existence. Would she bask in this experience and blossom as a Tamer, or would she come to feel despair and curse her destiny as one of the 'destined' as some liked to call it. Perhaps it was for that reason, to figure out what this girl would become that Reikiko was deciding to help her out.
"Me? I been here a few weeks, nearly a month I guess? Some people been here for years, albeit while you might be worried about your home it might be reassuring to hear that the passage of time within this place is a lot different. I recall hearing that even if weeks passed in here that at most only a few minutes continued since your disappearance in the real world. In a worst case scenario you could likely find your way back, although I haven't looked into that myself. I have little reason to return to the real world."
In the end she had little left for her in the real world ever since her accident. In the Digital World her partial blindness seemed resolved, but she was certain that the harsh reality still remained if she was to return someday to the real world. Her left eye would still be blind as a result of her accident, her entire school would still despise her and she'd still be stuck in her room crying about the unfairness of this world. No, there was nothing left for her within the real world.
"Oh~ That would explain the accent, as you can guess already I'm from Japan, born and raised in Fukuoka~ Albeit I do know some English, albeit you're hearing your native language because it's likely active on your digivice, it seems some people have it functionality as an interpreter, quite a fancy gadget."
She smiled briefly before shaking her head lightly in response to clear her thoughts.
"You arrived at a bit of a peculiar time actually. Lots of stuff been happening lately, albeit people in the city are in a bit of an uproar due to the recently announced tournament. Although the city is still recovering from a recent siege upon its walls the prospect of a competition seems to have stirred the locals. You should come and watch if you have the time, I'm certain a lot of experienced fighters will be around, so you might learn a trick or two or maybe even meet someone you knew in the real world."
She was a bit curious to see what type of Digimon this girl would get, Reikiko could already imagine that Adelaide might had been feeling like a child the night before Christmas, albeit this would be a one-of-a-time present she'd be opening!
"Aneki, I'm catching the scent of a digiegg nearby, shouldn't be far now."
Seems they were drawing closer to their destination, only a bit till Addi would likely be able to meet her new partner for the first time!

| they all got the same heartbeat, but her's is falling beind
Lead weighted down in the teen's chest as Reikiko admitted to being in the Digital World nearly a month. The added information about how time flows differently did little to help her feel much better.
Addi turned her thoughts to the other girl momentarily as she explained the region she came from in Japan. While not familiar with the country that much, she could tell now why she had seen some Oriental descent when they first met. What had the girl been doing when she was sucked away to this world? Had she been sleeping or at school or doing homework?
Addi smiled briefly. "At least I don't have to learn a third language now, right?"
The younger teen continued to listen to Reikiko as she explained about the various events going on the digital world. A tournament of sorts? Did that mean the Digimon would be fighting? She couldn't help but tense as Reikiko recounted an attach on the city. But hadn't she also told Addi to stay close to the city until her partner got stronger. "I might..." she managed to reply, her voice shaking slightly.
Addi continued to become increasingly nervous as they drew closer. Even Reikiko's partner, Kuro, said that he could smell the egg. Hopefully it didn't smell rotten.
They drew closer to where the digivice was directing them. Addi's icy gaze settled on a copse of trees that seemed to be the direction they were heading. Addi stepped gingerly into the bushes, eyes darting about for anything that seemed vaguely egg or Digimon related. The pinging from the Digivice grew and grew as she rustled through the bushes.
Finally, it was almost too loud to bear when her eyes landed on a large, black-and-purple striped egg. The arrow pulsed erratically on her digivice. She pocketed the small beeping device to lean forward and bring the egg closer. As her hands closed around the egg, the digivice fell silent. Her eyes widened as she drew it to her chest. "Is, is this my Digimon?" she asked, eyes flickering over to Reikiko and Kuro. This seemed like it should be an intimate moment, if this really was her partner, but she just felt awkward and anxious right now.

"Haha yes, you won't need to worry about mastering a myriad of languages, imagine the headaches you get if you had to deal with language homework in the digital world!"
She chuckled softly as they seemingly arrived at what appeared to be the digiegg of Addi, causing Reikiko's gaze to soften a little. It was a beautiful egg in her opinion, and yet she could notice the anxiety in the girl's eyes. She paused for a moment, seemingly thinking of the best way to convey her message when she finally looked sideways at her own partner. There was something about the bond between a tamer and Digimon that was unique to her, so she decided that it was time for her to enlighten the girl a little about it.
"Don't be worried Addi, that egg you're holding will become your closest friend within the Digital world. In my opinion there is one solid rule when it comes to you and the little one inside that egg: Your Digimon partner is the only being in the entire world you'd be able to entrust your back to without any worries."
She paused for a moment, lowering a hand to pet Kuro's head affectionately while thinking about what she just said. It was the truth, in her opinion she genuinely believed that the only one you could truly depend on was your partner, and it was for that reason she started to explain something in a clearly more serious tone.
"No matter if it's the real world, or reality there is NO such thing as someone who acts selfless. Every action has some form of reason, some ulterior motive. Some people might help you because they are curious about you and want to learn more, others might find you a cute girl and want to get on your good side, and others might simply try to trick you into lowering your guard. However, there is one exception to this rule: the little one in that egg you're holding."
She leaned a bit closer, her hand gently reaching for the egg, and if permitted she would rub the shell gently, the mark on her hand seemingly visible while she continued her explanation.
"Your partner and you depend on one another, two halves of one, just like you depend on them for your survival, so will your Digimon depend on you for guidance and to nurture its strength. That is why you should never consider your partner a tool, or betray them. There is nothing more despicable than someone who tarnished the bond between a Tamer and their partner."
She couldn't help but think about Hamelin and Gepetto for a moment, and while she drawn back her hand she instructed the girl with a brief smile.
"Call out to it Addi, I'm certain the little one will answer."
Kuro seemed a bit excited himself, his tail swaying back and forth in excitement, certainly not because Digi omelettes were a god damned delicacy!
"Of course you'll have to give it a name also, but for now let's see you enjoy the sight of your partner hatching for the first time ever, shall we?"

| they all got the same heartbeat, but her's is falling beind
"My...closest friend?" she whispered, a slight stinging in the back of her eyes. The teen had not been without her share of friends, but there had always been a wall between her and other people.
Addi glanced up at the older girl as her tone became deeper, more serious. Her gaze shifted as she petting her own partner affectionately and Addi couldn't help but smile. Reikiko and Kuro seemed to have a good relationship, so if she had a friendship like they did, maybe....maybe this world wouldn't be too bad.
The raven-haired teen listened intently, eyes widening to make her look even more innocent as Reikiko gave her speech about everyone having a motive. But then..what was Reikiko's motive for helping her, a random stranger she had met that was falling from the sky?
Blue orbs lowered a fraction to where Reikiko held out her hand in an attempt to rub the smooth surface of the egg. She didn't mind so she brought it up to meet the other girl's hand. Her gaze darted down momentarily to glance at the mark on her hand, but didn't give it much thought other than thinking it might be a tattoo of sorts.
She shook her head. "I won't Reikiko." Glancing back down at the egg, she whispered. "I'lll take care of you." A warmth seemed to spread through her chest as she smiled softly at the small egg.
Addi continued rubbing the striped egg, whispering to it. A shiver ran through the Digiegg, a crack running along the smooth surface. Addi's eyes widened as the pieces fell away slowly, revealing a small black blob. Yellow eyes blinked before focusing on the raven-haired teen. Really, it was just two yellow dots. The small blob bristled, black fur coming to stand on end. "Bo!" it exclaimed, causing Addi to jump slightly. "Ah!" she exclaimed.
"Bo, bo!" the little Fresh level exclaimed, wriggling around, but strangely, it seemed happy to see the human. Addi blinked, but a small smile crept across her face. "Nice to meet you too, partner."

The girl couldn't help but smile at Addi's first meeting with the little Digimon, the innocent encounter making her wonder how she would have been if the circumstances for herself were different. Nevertheless, as sweet as the encounter between the two had become Reikiko couldn't help but feel how out of place she was in this scene, especially considering she was a dark tamer. After giving the two of them a moment to get to know each other she exclaimed in a softer tone.
"Let's get the two of you to Terabyte, shall we? As long as you don't go into the alleys and avoid the more suspicious-looking places you'll be more safe there than out in the open."
She smiled briefly while turning her back toward the duo, a light gesture with her hand seemingly suggesting for them to follow. Addi was rather fortunate that Reikiko was in a good mood, lest their meeting could have ended up entirely different, but she still wanted to make something clear.
"I'll take you to the city, but after that my charity work ends for the day Addi. It feels a bit awkward for a dark tamer like myself to play the role of a nice girl."
She laughed sheepishly, scratching her own cheek in a hint of embarrassment. Although it was a pleasant feeling to act this nice, it also was a bit foreign, and out of place in her opinion. Perhaps it was for that reason she was being a bit more honest.
"Don't worry, I'm not some silly villain from a story or fairy-tale, consider me more of a antihero. I don't believe in selflessness or heroism, especially after the things I seen or experienced, and if you're curious why a selfish person like me is helping you, consider it a mixture of me being unable to sit idle when a cute girl drops down the sky before my own eyes, and the fact I had nothing better to do."
While she hummed those words softly she started their walk toward the city, spinning around to face Addi as she continued her explanation.
"In this world you got a lot of different people, just like in reality, same with Digimon. At some point you might even arrive to a moment where you got to make decisions that could influence yourself and your partner, but always make the choices you yourself won't regret. Just doing something because it's considered the 'norm' doesn't make it right, it's what you personally believe to be the right choice that is the important thing... Ah sorry, I must be confusing you with that rant."
She chuckled for a moment, while she turned her back at Addi once more.
"You could say that while I'm not truly a bad person, I do walk a path covered in darkness, part of why I hope you'll never follow my footsteps. It's a hard and cold road, quite a lonely one also that will consume you if you are weak of heart. But for some it's a road that need to be traversed if they want to reach their destination."
Although the words were more for herself rather than Addi, the moment Reikiko finished speaking she simply continued walking, seemingly waiting for Addi to speak if she had any questions or things she wanted to say. With the city drawing closer into sight it seemed they still had a bit of time to continue their conversation if wanted.

| they all got the same heartbeat, but her's is falling beind
Adelaide's reverie with her newfound partner was quickly broken as Reikiko spoke up once more, informing the new tamer that it was time to head into the city. She explained that it would be the most safe place for the newly hatched Digimon and Addi, however Addi couldn't help but wonder if there was any place at all in this world that was safe.
With the motion of Reikiko's hand, Addi nodded and followed, giving a once more around the clearing where she had found her partner's egg, then following obediently. She smiled down at the small digimon, raising her index finger to poke it softly on the side. The tiny blob shivered, eyes blinking before it let out a stream of bubbles in the raven-haired teen's face. She laughed before turning back to Reikiko and concentrating on walking forward.
"Dark tamer?" she mimicked after Reikiko. Was there a difference now in tamers? Just a few moments ago, the older girl had been spouting off about friendship and treating your partner with respect and love, but now she was claiming to be some kind of antihero. Addi didn't say anything, just listened as she walked along with the other girl towards the city.
Adelaide couldn't help but plush when the other girl called her cute, humming slightly in a pleasant way as a slightly goofy, awkward smile came across her feature.s Hopefully this wasn't something Reikiko would notice. She hugged her partner closer, causing the Botamon to answer in a squeak. "But if you're not a hero, then what do you do? You don't seem mean."
This also brought thoughts of why exactly Addi had been pulled to the digital world. Specifically, why had any of the humans?
She shook her head when the other girl mused that she must be confused by her speech. "No...I don't think it's confusing. I think you're just telling me I'll have a long road ahead." Adelaide blushed again furiously, having said something so grown up. "D-do you mind if I ask why you consider yourself a dark tamer?" she whispered.

"The things I do?"
Reikiko couldn't help but ponder about the question, trying to think of how she would answer Addi's question. To say she was doing selfless heroic things would had been a lie, in the end she didn't consider herself that gentle, nevertheless for a moment she was left thinking silently about the matter a bit longer before she answered.
"I guess you could say I do whatever I desire. Good and Evil often depend on the perspective you use to see a situation. For example the actions of one person might be considered the crimes of a vile terrorist in the eyes of one person, but another person might consider them the deeds of a liberator. To simplify it a bit more, while I do not desire to commit evil, I wouldn't say that I'm someone who would hesitate to do something someone might perceive as evil, if it furthers my ambitions. In the end you could say I adopted a 'the end justifies the means approach, you know that saying?'"
She smiled briefly at the girl while she inquired a bit further on the existence of Dark Tamers, something that made Reikiko frown for a moment as she stretched her arms into the air.
"Another complicated question to answer, you sure seem to have a knack for them~ From the stories I hear Dark Tamers are those who possess a more darker form of power. You see, most Digimon tend to digivolve because of their friendship with their tamer, but a dark tamer like me is different."
She paused for a moment as she looked up at her stretched arm, the back of her hand showing the mark clearly in the sunlight.
"You could say that me and Kuro tap into darker, or negative emotions in order to obtain the power we need to get stronger. Such a transformation is commonly called a 'Ankoku Shinka' or 'Dark evolution'. It grants you an incredible surge in power compared to a regular evolution, but it tends to drive most Digimon insane, it even corrupts and damages them."
Yet as Kuro walked beside her the black raptor declared proudly.
"But me and Aneki are different! I retain my sanity in my Ankoku form, that's because we are special."
Reikiko nodded her head lightly in agreement as she added in onto the explanation.
"To summarize, I can't even digivolve Kuro naturally, and in a world like this power is essential for your survival, so we learned to wield the darkness as our own weapon."
She sighed softly, before she turned her back to Addi, adding in a softer tone.
"I guess that is why I was curious about you, I wanted to see with my own eyes your first steps in this foreign world. I guess I'll grant you a little reward for entertaining me this long."
She paused for a moment, her lips curving up into a smile as she approached the girl slowly, attempting to lean onto her shoulder to whisper softly into her ear.
"Did you know the people who can bring you the greatest hope, also can make you feel the darkest despair?"
A grin lingering upon her lips the girl continued, explaining in a cheerful tone.
"That's who I am Addi, I'm a Zetsubou no Erabareshi Hasha~"
She leaned back, withdrawing a small necklace from her neck that seemingly contained the crest of despair as she explained with a bittersweet smile.
"See Addi, that's why I'm a Dark Tamer, as a Chosen Champion of Despair it's obvious that I shouldn't consider myself a hero."
She slowly pulled the necklace back under her clothes while stepping past Addi, a playful wave being made as a parting gesutre.
"Guess we're here~ Now if you'll excuse me, I and Kuro have matters to attend to. If you do plan to stay around I'm sure we'll meet during the tournament, perhaps you can even cheer for us, I'm sure Kuro will love that."
And with those words she prepared to leave, likely departing from the scene unless Addi would stop her

| they all got the same heartbeat, but her's is falling beind
Adelaide gently brushed her fingers along the Botamon's soft surface. Under her touch, he felt like a combination of soft rubber and goose down. A smile quirked at such a silly thought.
She lifted her eyes as Reikiko explained that she used a darker power, while other, more ordinary Tamer's utilized their friendship. Glancing once more down at her newfound partner, she couldn't help but muse...would friendship be their power? She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts of what she was now considering to sound very much like a silly Disney movie. "But you guys do seem like you're best friends." Hadn't Reikiko even went on about how they were partners and Kuro wasn't her tool?
All this was a lot to take in for the teen, especially having just fallen from the sky. Reikiko's tone softened, causing Addi to glance up, but she faltered slightly when she saw the girl leaning closer. From this close up, Addi could see the individual specks in the girl's bi-colored eyes. She momentarily thought that her eyes were very pretty, even if they were very different.
Addi blushed furiously, gasping out, "But I'm not that interesting!" Her cheeks only darkened considerably as she dropped her head, tucking it against her chest. "But you seem so nice. I don't think you could bring someone despair..."
When the raven-haired teen glanced up once more, she saw that Reikiko had withdrawn and was now looking at a necklace, but Addi couldn't quite get a glimpse of the details of the pendant.
Reikiko seemed almost sad as she stared at the pendant, but Addi could be wrong. She said something about being a champion of despair and that's why she couldn't be a hero. Addi wanted to chime in that she could be anything that she wanted to, but frowned and worried at her bottom lip with her teeth, criticising herself internally at how naive those words sounded. Like she was any kind of hero herself. She was just getting started and had no where to go. She couldn't help but want to ask the girl to stay with her, guide her more on her new journey, but as Reikiko said, she wasn't a hero.
She watched sadly as the older girl walked past, waving and saying goodbye. She also waved goodbye and sighed before heaidng into the city. |
