There was much going on; much more than Matthew could have expected. He simply thought that arriving here was an error, and that the creatures were reacting accordingly to their own territorial and defensive natures.
To think people had rejected the real world in favor of this on, where all the Gods existed and fairy tales were just outside the doors of one's house...
It was romantic, in both positive and negative ways. It was fantastical, and it was terrifying. Astoria's words hung heavy, and the implications she avoided were even worse. Her pause was poorly timed, but he knew the exact word she wanted to say. To think a God had fallen so easily made Matthew homesick.
On the way back to Triton, Margot noticed him staring out the window. Just as they arrived in Triton, she dropped him off next to the Gekomon's place. He had no idea what was on her mind, but it didn't matter. The city was looking better, so that was a plus.
Matthew was totally unaware of the Mission Center, and that's just where she was. With the help of someone with thumbs, she wrote herself a bill and it was posted without hesitation.
"I understand that a lot of new people are arriving here in the Digital World, and not many of them understand how things often work. Battles are fought differently, and I just think it would be nice to help people learn how they work. What with that SkullGreymon and what happened to Triton and Terabyte City, it's, well, only natural that a training course be necessary.
My dear Matthew has no idea how to fight. He's a fisherman, and a craftsman, but those skills aren't reliable in certain situations. He needs something more, and I'm sure others do too.
If you're looking to spend an hour or so with this strange, but charming man, and teach him the ropes - or if you wanna learn how to fight, too- then please heed this request. I'm willing to let people join in and watch, too."
It was hard, finding the right words to say. It was painful specifying that just a single person was to be the focus of this Mission, but that last line made it seem all the more worth it. If one person could be helped, then that person could assist another. That very individual would probably come to the aid of another and a chain or domino effect would take place.
It was nightfall by the time she came back to Gekomon's place. Matthew was already next door, most likely asleep and waiting for a new day to begin.
~
The sun was a little brighter than usual. The highlands had no real way of providing shade over a large area, but there was plenty of room to stare at nothing and think. Matthew was seated underneath the tree he and Margot talked under. The ground was still scorched in some places, there was rubble here and there.
Nothing really changed. It was relaxing, and stupid.
"I hope they answered that bill..." "Bill? What were you doing yesterday, anyway?"
MISSION START!Objective: Help Matthew train! Help Matthew learn about and use Digivolution! Spread the training Fever! Mission ends after any ONE Digimon/Spirit Wielder reaches Critical Condition. ► oh it eats us alive Yes there's a scream inside That we all try to hide We hold on so tight But I don't wanna die |
It was common for Claire to visit Digital World notice boards. Essentially, this was her job now, never mind what she did in the real world- if she wanted to eat and have a place to stay while she was here, she had to do more than explore at her own leisure. But it wasn't a problem- it was hardly work to her, more being paid to be entertained by whatever this sometimes wild world could throw at her.
The notice was given a glance over once, then twice by the blonde woman.
Well, well, well- if she was reading this correctly, it seemed the the Ringbound's own dear Matthew McDermott was looking for a sparring partner, maybe two or more actually- or, rather, his Digimon was.
What happened to Triton City and the like was fresh on the minds of Digital World inhabitants. It was only to be expected that some would be nervous, rather than intrigued as Claire herself was. Each area's respective guardians had always seemed near-untouchable, so Neptunemon being slain was... ripe with possibilities and potential.
Claire was excited.
The highlands were warm, as to be expected of summer. Claire's clothes were lighter today than the usual, a frilled white shirt and high waisted pants with her boots- as the season rolled on, it became more and more difficult to don her usual, heavy custom gear.
"Good day, Mr. Matthew and Margot. I hope you both are well." A greeting was called out as she approached the pair, smiling with her mouth closed. Walter gave a nod to the fellow Digimon- for a virus type, he had to say Margot was unlike most others. His first impression of her at the meeting had been a good one, and the Lopmon hoped to keep it that way.
"I'm afraid I'm not the answer to your bill," she replied, having overheard the amphibian's words upon approach. She had no intention of fighting them today- she simply wanted to observe the man in action, review his fighting style or perhaps lack thereof. It was made clear that he knew little of fighting, so what would he do under that kind of pressure as is? "For today, I'll just be watching."
The notice was correct- he was mysterious indeed, this man. Claire didn't feel as if she had a good grasp on him. He was not expressionless, yet sometimes his emotions were difficult to read. The apparent fisherman had followed Claire into the Ringbound- something she wouldn't have expected from their first meeting.
He was no child, making mindless decisions like many Digital World explorers- what were his reasons for sticking around, when he'd seemed so disoriented and unpleasantly surprised before? For bonding with his own Digimon? Why join the Ringbound? She had questions, but was in no rush to answer them right away- the blonde was perfectly happy to observe and piece clues together.
Perhaps one day, she would fill in the missing bits by asking up front.
[[ Just to be perfectly clear rn, you guys shouldn't wait for me in post order. B) Claire will just be observing and stuff ]]
"Claire speech." "Walter speech."

The sun beat down on the highlands, a figurative assault of sunshine brightening the digital world. Leyton had spent what would be near another month in this world. His hair lengthened down to his neck and moderately tangled at the nape.
The white hair's attire was reserved for the day, no shirt, men's black athletic shorts and a pair of white sneakers. His attire fit the tempo of the day's weather.
The bill was for young Matty McDermott; Leyton hadn't met him before other than the Ringbound meeting, he seemed like the usual silent type only speaking when talked to and such. Soon the rendezvous point was in sight, four figures coming to view; Matt, his Digimon accompanied by... Walter and Claire?!
Why was Claire here? Maybe she was going to spectate? This would be the chance Leyton was looking for, his chance to show that he wasn't a joke, no, that he could hang with anyone in Ringbound or the digital world.
"Do my eyes deceive me? The very lovely Miss Claire, followed by the very handsome, young Mr. Walter. What did I do to deserve this audience?" he partialy lifted his arms at his sides, shoulders relaxed. Today just had to be one of luck, a dame, bits, and he got to train harder than usual.
"Hiya folks," he saluted the other duo, Margret and Matt what a team they must have been.

The Digital World notice boards. They were the place to visit if you were bored, or if you just wanted to come across a little bit of cash, and Brennan just so happened to fulfill both of these conditions. Visiting the board, Brennan had found one bill that had particularly interested him. It was written by a Digimon, and was asking for people to help said Digimon's tamer train. Granted, Brennan himself was not the best in a physical battle, but he was an amazing strategist, so having Dora to attack and Brennan to strategize was the perfect combination.
When Brennan and Dora came across the notice, the two instantly agreed that they wanted to take this on. The training was something they would not dare miss out on, and Brennan never missed a chance to impose his amazingness onto any random stranger. So the duo found themselves heading to the Vale Highlands, where they, and perhaps a few other people, would help this mysterious fisherman and craftsman named Matthew train.
After traveling to the highlands, Brennan and Dora, who was just a few feet in front of him, began to vaguely see five figures in the distance. Brennan was thrilled, it seemed as though three more people had shown up, though one of them seemed to be a Digimon. Still, that was just more people to impose his amazingness upon. Brennan and Dora the Dorumon broke into a run, and eventually the fuzzy image of the group in the distance began to sharpen. The first pair was an Otamamon and a rather tall young man who seemed to be someone in his early twenties, and the next pair was a Lopmon, who was standing by a blonde woman who was almost rather tall. The identity of the last figure surprised Brennan, it was none other than Leyton. Brennan and Dora always seemed to run into the man wherever they went...
"Hello there!" Brennan said as he reached the group, stopping abruptly. "This Dorumon and I are here for the bill that was written...?"

"I hope they answered that bill..." "Bill? What were you doing yesterday, anyway?"
"Well, you see-"
"Good day, Mr. Matthew and Margot. I hope you both are well." Margot had silently began to speak, and was fortunate enough to be cut off by the sound of a familiar and welcomed voice. Both she and Matthew turned in CLAIRE LYON 's direction, the Digimon returning Walter's nod with a big smile.
Matthew straightened himself up, eyes following their guest. She was still a mystery and this only darkened the clouds.
"I'm afraid I'm not the answer to your bill. For today, I'll just be watching." A quick glance was given to the tadpole, and her smile turned into frown with bitten lower lip. She exhaled a hiss and had begun to walk away. "Watching what, if I may - Actually, Margot, you never answered my earlier question."
She flinched, back turned towards her Tamer. She had no idea what to say, or how to react. All she could do was quickly turn around and stare at him open mouthed and blinking, like a lying kid caught stealing from the cookie jar by their mother. "Do my eyes deceive me? The very lovely Miss Claire, followed by the very handsome, young Mr. Walter. What did I do to deserve this audience?" Oh thank Venusmon. Now she was sweating on top of being frozen.
Matthew ignored her for the moment, raising a hand to grab the bridge of his nose and exhale in disbelief. Two members of Ringbound were now present, and without explanation. If any could be given, there would have prior to Claire's arrival. Despite only one known meeting in their history, that was given interruption by way of the Skeletal Hound - Plutomon.
There was notice beforehand, and if either of these two had planned something, a message would've been left on his Digivice. That very hand reached for the instrument attached to his belt and opened up the chatroom. No such message existed in the logs. "Hello there! This Dorumon and I are here for the bill that was written...?" So came the voice of a stranger. (brennan )
Matthew took a deep breath and set the device back onto his belt and folded his arms behind his back. His gaze fell onto Margot and nobody else. A shiver went down her spine, her eyes widening. Upon the raising of Matthew's right brow, she hung her head.
"... Matthew, how long has it been since you arrived here?" "Feels like a few weeks at least. Why inquire about such triviality?"
A ball of air was inhaled and swallowed, the middle claw of her left hand scraping at the ground. "How many battles have we fought?" "This is because of Neptunemon, isn't it? Margot, I-" Her eyes were now daggers, her lanky body marching up to stand before Matthew and poke a claw at his leg.
"You knew what Astoria said. You heard exactly what happened and I know exactly how you felt. Neptunemon was that God given material form. He had command over the ocean and he fell how easily? I know how to fight. You know how to fight.
Not once have we ever learned to combine what we know and that's why these people are here. Last night I went to the Mission Center and posted for help. We need to learn how to fight." The look on Matthew's face never changed except for where he was looking. During most of what she spoke, he looked right into her eyes and failed to adjust his stature. At the mention of Poseidon's Avatar, his gaze fell to the left side.
Margot was right. The Skullgreymon did come out of nowhere, and the two of them were caught in the middle of it- running away would've led to death. Plutomon had only shown up because of the Mark; his phantoms were summoned because of it.
The King of the Seas was another thing entirely. Though actual events were not witnessed, there was still something anyone could've done.
Without a word, Matthew shrugged of his jacket and hung it on the lowest branch of the tree. A white button-up now revealed itself, along with darkened grey khakis and black boots. One deep breath, and Matthew's eyes took in each of the three; returning to Leyton Thomson upon some sort of realization.
"I noticed this back in Necropolis, but you and Andrea had no partner... Have either of you not found them? If that's the case, I don't suppose you wish to fight hand-to-hand?"
Greeting that stranger would have to come later, unfortunately.

Leyton paced back and forth as Matt made his round of greetings, he'd stretch his arms and roll his neck in preparation. This was his chance to impress Walter, and show that little rabbit, dog, thing what the Thomson men were made of.
He stopped his warm-up when the male addressed him, he must have been fired up from his tad-poles pep-talk. "Nah man, I'm a spirit wielder. I can turn into digimon. But if you want we can grapple a bit." he cracked his neck.
"I think we should do a triple threat," Leyton began, "Me vs Bren vs Matt"

Matthew and his Digimon spent a little while arguing, and Brennan waited patiently. Then, he remarked about how Leyton had no partner, apparently he did not know the many was a Spirit Wielder. Leyton then explained that he was a Spirit Wielder, and that issue was resolved. Brennan nodded at this exchange, feeling awkward with the random stranger who would be watching them fight. Leyton then stated that they should do a thread, him versus Brennan versus Matthew, whom he called Matt. "Sure, I'm down for a triple threat, Dora and I are raring to try out a new form we just unlocked." Brennan unclipped the Digivice from his belt, waiting for confirmation or denial from Matthew. Brennan and Dora had fought together only a few times, so this would no doubt be good for them, especially considering that they had only recently unlocked Armor Champion, a form that they had only used once, and never in combat.

Right hand with a single finger uplifted was held towards brennan immediately after he spoke. Matthew's eyes narrowed and his head lifted itself just a hair to his upper left - he was still looking at his fellow Ringbound. "I can explain that if you-" The hand was cast towards Margot, and she backed up silently.
"Margot, I know you are a waterfall of knowledge, but some things are best learned from those who actively pursue such a thing. Leyton Thomson , could you please explain what a Spirit Wielder is?" The answer was everything but indirect; he could turn into a Digimon.
This made no sense, at all. If a human was able to assume the form of a Digital Monster, then nearly every individual Matthew had encountered was either a human in disguise, or able to do exactly what Leyton said. Was that Gekomon a human playing a trick? Was Angeli a human as well?
Was Plutomon's army actually made of humans - Was the God of the Underworld merely flesh, blood, and bone in nightmarish armor? It felt like a tidal wave of questions began to flood Matthew's mind and Margot hung her head, knowing exactly what he was feeling. First he thought he was dreaming. Then he thought he was dead.
Right when she started to believe he was coming to terms with this reality, something new and exciting and terrifying shows up. To be fair, she couldn't tell him the answers he was searching for. She didn't know if that Skull-bearer army were made of humans or not. She couldn't even begin to think if Neptunemon's killer was really a human either.
There was no way to spot the difference unless one witnessed it firsthand.
His hand fell back down, sliding into his pocket, thumb hooking itself on his belt. A brief pause was seen in the lack of movement from his chest. "On second thought, before you explain... I'd rather you show me. Then I'll decide if I want the triple threat."
The little tadpole shuddered, fear and wonder mixing inside her heart at the thought of Matthew being interested. She dragged herself towards CLAIRE LYON , leaving enough room for the group's slacker to perform his one-of-a-kind trick. If he had been looking, he would've been wise to follow her.

Leyton couldn't retrieve his device fast enough, swiftly he summoned a band of data around his hand. "This is the data of the Digimon that trusted his spirit to me." he waved his hand a bit, showing Matt that is was all real.
Cracking his neck the white hair had to mentally prepare for this one whenever he entered his champion state fatigue would follow not too soon after. "Execute!" he bellowed, scanning the data with his device. In a swift movement the band around his hand expanded and three more consumed Leyton's being, followed by a flash of light. Once the light faded all that was left was Gokuwmon.
"And just like that I can transform." he laughed. "I guess you can say I have a partner, but he's in my mind and our spirits are one." he placed a palm onto his chest.

Brennan stood by as Leyton summoned bands of Code around his arm, quickly transforming into a Gokuwmon, a Champion level Digimon, well, he wasn't the only one who could play that game... well technically, they'd be using a different form, but still. "Alright Dora, let's do this, it's time to Armor Digivolve, alright?" The Digimon nodded, and as Brennan's Digivice glowed, so did the four foot tall purple Digimon.
"Dorumon Armor Digivolve to... Jetdramon!" As he announced this, his body grew another 10 feet or so, bringing Dora's height to somewhere around 15 feet. The much larger purple Digimon was clad in silver armor, with wings sprouting on. Jetdramon let out a roar and stamped on the ground, Brennan and Dora were ready for this.

On second thought, following her wouldn't have mattered. Right after asking, Leyton Thomson took out his device, and his body began to react in a most unusual fashion. A band of pure data was materialized around his wrist. Two things that made no sense just occurred.
The first was the raw energy that made up that band. Had Leyton slowed down, there would've been enough time to analyze it. The second was Leyton mentioning "the data of the digimon that trusted" him. Data was only known to be a word used for describing bits of information found via mechanical means - computer data.
How it materialized in such a simple fashion brought up a million and some questions but, they could be looked into and hopefully answered at another time. A nearly blinding light frightened Matthew's and Margot's eyes, and the transformation began.
Leyton Thomson's body had been graced by three more bands of this "data", and everything about him changed. The clothes he was wearing had vanished, instead replaced with articles similar to that of Chinese folklore, with some unique characteristics. Skulls sat on his shoulders; gold chains wrapped themselves at his wrists and waist, the latter bunch holding together two monkey dolls.
What stood out the most was the entity underneath. Snow-white hair on his head and chest, gloved hands gripping a Bo Staff. Leyton was no more. Leyton was a monster.
The overall attitude had vanished in just this appearance. His speech patterns and actions remained the same, but everything else didn't add up. This thing was a beast, and Leyton was a slacker with some grasp about the world.
"Your spirit..." Margot's voice had quivered. "Where did you find-"
"Alright Dora, let's do this, it's time to Armor Digivolve, alright?" "Dorumon Armor Digivolve to... Jetdramon!"
Both sets of eyes had turned to the stranger, and the same sort of magic had begun. The little beast, once purple and fox-like, had grown to the size of a large raptor. A majority of its body had been replaced with machinery, and all caution was doubled.
This was a literal monster; the stuff of nightmares. Matthew's posture never fell, nor did the flat line of a smile grow with fear. The only actions he took were setting his left hand behind his back and closing his eyes.
"Margot told me about this. It was under that tree - hours before the Skullgreymon attacked, that I learned what I just witnessed. That raptor is frightening, but you Leyton..." Taking a deep breath, his left hand turned to a fist. "I know exactly how to fight you.
I'm sure you've a few tricks up your sleeves, but fighting a monkey man is something I've done once before. I'll take on that..."
His lower lip slide between his teeth, both body and head turning with opened eyes to the brunet. A finger was pointed with his right hand, aimed at the human. (brennan ) "My sincerest apologies but, what are your names again?"
