This savannah was a dreadful place... This heat... Oh gods, how can people live in here?! But then, Yana could really wonder all she wanted but the more she walked around this place the more she acknowledged a simple fact: People didn't actually live her. Not that she could see anyway. Some digimon - particularly plant types - certainly felt at easy, and she could guess why. There was no shortage of sunlight! Sweat dripped from her body like a fountain, and the exhausted girl ran her hand across her forehead. It even made it hard to see anything! She was born in a cold country, and all her life she had lived in cold places. Yana wasn't used to the heat, and judging from this experience she had no interest in overcoming that... I mean, walking around the beach in a bikini is one thing, she didn't have to feel bad for wearing so little to keep cool. Boys seemed to look at her a lot too, and even if she was pretty shy about it, she couldn't say that didn't do wonders for her confidence. But once more, that wasn't the case here. This was a digital savannah, but in many ways, it looked every bit like the real thing. Muchomon squaked and fluttered overhead, going around from one tree to the other, just one type among the many digimon to make this place their home, "Ari, have you ever really explored every inch of this Savannah before?", wondered Yana, "You could have told me it was so scorching..." To this, Ari had an apologetically mischievous smile on her face, "Every inch might have been a stretch...", she giggled slightly at this, scratching behind her ear in a very familiar gesture, even for a human. "Ever playful huh...?", Yana forced a smile even through her discomfort, this wasn't something she'd ever be angry about, even if she were the kind of person to get angry. However, that didn't change the fact that they were gonna dehydrate at this rate, "Let's find a shade to rest under!" Yana turned away from the open field, steering clear of the many herds of wild Digimon, seeking cover under a large tree, which caught her attention due to the clear water pond underneath. Some Digimon came here to drink, others just to rest from the scorching heat, but regardless of why one might come here, they all seemed peaceful about it. There was no hunting, no chasing, no nothing... Ari quickly skipped over to the pond to drink and even Yana followed suit, leaning down and holding her hands in a cup, scooping some water and raising it up to her mouth... Some digimon looked at her warily, which she could hardly understand why. Fortunately they seldom did that for long, certainly Yana must have a had a trustworthy face. At least she just looked too tired to do anything: "Some humans hunt digimon for sport.", Ari explained, her usual smile fading for a moment, "Apparently this Savannah looks very much like a popular hunting ground in your world." Nodding at this last part, the tamer sat down upon a rock as she looked around. Indeed this looked an African Savannah, with heat to match. But even then, to think people would come to the Digital world for no reason other than that, "That's too cruel...", was all she could say with a saddned frown, raising one hand up to her chest. She looked around with a repentant look, feeling guilty for the actions of her fellow humans, "Perhaps we should leave them alone..." But this wouldn't be enough, however... Some Digimon would have a personal bone to pick with these poachers, "BEGONE, HUMAN!!", she heard a beastlike howl, "YOUR KIND DOESN'T BELONG HERE!" "I'm very sorry...!", stammered the shaken, guild ridden Yana, bowing apologetically and grabbing her things. She felt bad for the actions of her fellow humans, and would gladly leave this place, knowing that there was nothing she could do to appease them. But Ari had other ideas "Wait up! Nana isn't a poacher! She was getting ready to leave just because of what other humans have done to you all!!" But she wouldn't be allowed to continue. Blinded by hatred, seeing a digimon defending a human, the Gorillamon attack, raising his lazer and shooting at the them, "SHUT UP!!" The two girls leapt towards opposite sides to dodge the laser, but even staggered and wounded as they were, Yana knew she was gonna have to team up with Ari once more and fight this guy off, "Ari, Puppy Howling!!", she called out, hoping her partner's voice would startle the opponent. But instead it just annoyed him, as Gorillamon fired yet another laser, hitting the Salamon dead on "ARI-CHAN!!!", Yana cried out in grief at her partner's pain filled scream, and even if her partner was still able to painfully stand up that didn't make her any less injured...

But Gorillamon wouldn't let the two girls have his way. He would show this stray digimon who his kind were and who his kind wasn't. To do this, he instead dashed over to her and pinned her down under his foot, enough to hurt and hold Ari down but not enough to kill. "Your acting won't get you anywhere human! I know your kind for what it truly is!!!", he said revving up his laser, "You will see, Salamon! I wonder how long it will take for her to leave you here and run for her life!!" He laughed manically, like a digimon posessed. What the hell had gone wrong with this Gorillamon?! More than just virus fueled darkness, this was something else. Something no corrupted Data could be held responsible for. Yana didn't know what it was... But at this point she was in no state to figure it out... Gorillamon fired his laser, and though she rolled aside and tried to dodge at last second, there was only so fast she could move. Rolling aside at last second, she was still knocked to the ground as the laser impacted with the earth, but even as her glasses fell off, even as her body was bruised and battered by a level of punishment she had never trained for, she still endured, and stood up with a determined yet pleading look in her eyes: "LEAVE ARI ALONE!!", she cried out as she charged headfirst into the Gorillamon, determined to save Ari from his clutches "Determined are you?! I wanted to hunt you down as you fled for your life, but it appears you have chosen to stare death down as it takes you. FINE BY ME!!!... Huh...?!" Gorillamon was kept from firing by the Digimon he was holding beneath him. A warm, reassuring glow kept him from firing. The salamon under his heal shone bright like a radiant sun, almost blinding the hate driven digimon, leaving him unable to do the dirty deed. Yana knew she was too small and light to knock down such a gorilla... But there was something even she could do. Tackling the Gorilla's knee foot first, she staggered it for a brief moment just as her digivice began to glow: "Ari..." "Salamon digivolves to... Gatomon!!" From then on, everything happened in a blur... In a flash, Ari had changed from the puppy looking Salamon to a slightly larger, cat like Gatomon. The holy ring was now in her tail instead of her neck... So this was the power of Digivolution...? Then why did she look... So small?! Regardless, the downed Yana decided to leave the rest to her partner, and soon found that Gatomon's small size brought with it a huge advantage in speed. As Gorillamon took aim at Yana once more, Gatomon leapt into the air, with a resolute, angry look in her eyes, viciously slashing her foe's face. "Gaaah!!!", Gorillamon cried out in pain as the repeated attack staggered and blinded him, making him flail his laser hand around aimlessly to chase off the attacker. But the nimble Gatomon leapt away just in the nick of time, taking advantage of this opening to take down her foe for good, "And Stay Down! HEAVEN'S KNUCKLE!!" ------------------- In the end, Ari saved the day... And Yana learned about Digivolution first hand. The Gorillamon laid defeated, but so much beaten as broken. During the short time he laid unconscious, Ari had asked some of the other digimon and learned how deep his hatred of humans ran: He had lost his best friend to human poachers. He didn't yield to logic before, so he probably wouldn't now, clouded by hate as he was, but she would still try. Once she retrieved her glasses and dusted herself off, Yana hung around and waited for her former foe to awaken: "Hmph. So I'm still alive even though a human's pet defeated me. What do you want?!" "Hey! Who are you calling pet?!", a still annoyed Ari snapped, crossing her arms defiantly. She was still slightly wounded, but not as much as Gorillamon Convince an evil digimon that his ways are wrong, let him find the warmth of the loving light instead of the cold hand of hatred. Could she even do this? Instead, she nodded negatively: "We won't kill you... That's not the way... True, some humans are evil... But other humans are good.", Yana explained, smiling but shaking her head, correcting the mislead digimon, "As you attack other humans, they will come to hate digimon too, doing to others what those men did to you and your friend. If you truly want to change them, work with the humans you respect." The Gorillamon looked away angrily, but after a long few minutes of grumbling to himself he finally opened his mouth. His look had changed since Yana uttered those words, for a reason she couldn't really understand, since no words that she'd ever said had ever worked before. Only when she heard those words did she understand: "My friend... She said the same words you did... For a long time I believed her. But If a human who never met her can come to me and say those exact same words... Perhaps she was right. Perhaps you too are right." ------------------- The Gorillamon, after exchanging a few more words with Yana and Ari, wound up giving them something in way of apology for his actions. He wasn't sure wether he'd outgrow his hatred of humans, but maybe he wouldn't be so quick to judge in the future, "Here, take this. It was Tailmon's most prized posession, and at one point her greatest power. Perhaps Ari can use it too, one day." His gift was a Digiegg with the light crest embedded in it, the light Gorillamon had forgotten once his friend vanish Yana knew this fully well... This was the light she always tried to hang on to, even when everything around her seemed dark, bleak and hopeless.
