Anko and Keigo had sneaked out of Terabyte City to do some more exploring. It had been Anko's idea. (Again.) Keigo just involuntarily had to follow her.
They had been walking for hours, and Keigo was beginning to get worried about Anko. Surely a human girl shouldn't stay out in the hot boiling sun all day. The Veemon already noticed the slightly rosy cheeks from his tamer, which told him everything he needed to know.
"Anko?" He began, placing his hand on her shoulder. The girl looked at him with hazy eyes, the sudden movement of looking at her partner made her sway on her feet. Yep, they needed some shelter. "Okay, we have to find shome shelter now, or you'll collapshe." Keigo opened Anko's pouch, taking out a bottle of water that they had prepped for the journey.
Carefully, Keigo brought the bottle to Anko's lips and let her gulp the water hungrily. As Anko's thirst was taken care of, Keigo now started observing the area.
There was sand..
sand..
and more sand.
Not really something you wanted to be surrounded with when your tamer was overheating.
"Oh man.." Keigo mumbled, taking off his scarf and wrapping it around Anko's head. At least that would help her last a little longer, or so the Veemon thought.
After another twenty minutes of wandering around aimlessly, Keigo finally noticed a soda machine standing in the middle of nowhere. The Veemon shuddered as the memories of being humiliated by that Numemon were brought back to him. Though, this was the only place in the entire desert that allowed Anko to get some shade.
Keigo thought that.. if you didn't give the darn machine any money, maybe the Numemon wouldn't appear.
Anko was leaning against the soda machine while Keigo was observing her. She seemed to get progressively worse. The darn sun wasn't really much of help, either. It was a tad too harsh right now. Oh, why did Anko have to go on these foolish missions anyway? She overheard some digimon in Terabyte City speak of a mysterious egg laying around in these deserts. So far, no luck.
"Keigo..?" Anko's voice was hoarse, not to mention dry. The Veemon rubbed his forehead nervously. He was just a rookie, what was he supposed to do next? He couldn't just randomly digivolve, it only happened in acts of bravery or despair.
This was truly a desperate situation, but Keigo didn't seem to feel the burst of energy to digivolve.
"Yeah, Anko?" Was his response, and he sat down next to her. "I'm sorry for bringing you into this once again."
"That'sh fine, Anki." He told her, calling her by her nickname that he gave her. She seemed to be fond of it, so it kinda stuck.
The girl smiled weakly and leaned against the Veemon.
He opened Anko's pouch once again to take out the bottle. He was thirsty himself, but he didn't want to risk Anko dying here. Cause death for a human.. that was permanent. Digimon were just reborn again.
"Here, drink up." He told her, and brought the bottle to her lips again. Anko drank a few sips, before pushing it towards Keigo. "You need to drink too.." But the Veemon shook his head. "I'll be fine, Anki. Jusht drink up."
Another hour passed, and Keigo had fallen asleep right next to Anko. But, as he awoke, his tamer had somehow disappeared.
"Huh?" Keigo mumbled, getting to his feet and looking around himself. Where had she gone?
"Anko?" He called, but naturally received no response. "Hey Anko, thish ishn't funny." The Veemon said, until the wind carried a rather unsettling sound.
It sound like some kind of blubbering laugh.
"S-s-so we meet a-a-gain!" Came a voice that made Keigo's data run cold.
"No.." He whispered, again feverishly looking around himself. "It can't be!"
"WELL I-I-IT IS!" Shouted someone, and the soda machine that Anko had been leaning against burst open, revealing the Numemon that had attacked them once before. Back when Keigo was still a Chibomon.
"You!" Keigo exclaimed, looking rather taken aback. How did he find them?
"Ahahahah!" The Numemon laughed, and his tongue slid into the shaft of the soda machine. "Egh.. eh.." He was panting, until.. "A-ha!" The Numemon withdrew his tongue, that was wrapped around someone.
Someone familiar.
"ANKO!" The Veemon screamed in utter panic, oh if only he hadn't fallen asleep-- if only they hadn't gone on this stupid mission!
"Ehehehe y-y-yes!" Numemon laughed, dropping the unconscious tamer into the sand. Keigo angrily glared at the champion level. "Why are you doing thish?!"
"I-I-I'm doing you a f-f-f-avor!" The stinky digimon replied, and then proceeded to dig around in the sand. "H-h-here! Looky what I got here!"
A rather odd looking egg emerged from the sand, and the Numemon kicked it a little further away. "I-I I'm leaving you a choice! It should be r-r-rather easy!"
Keigo looked at Anko, and then at the mysterious egg. Of course this was an easy choice, he'd totally go for Anko. Why would he care for such a waste of an item anyway?
"B-b-but to make this decision harder.." The Numemon sputtered, and another Numemon jumped out of the soda machine. "I-if you go for the girl.. we will fight you, and we will kill you both." The Numemon threatened, but his face then formed into joy. "But if you go for the egg, we will leave you alone, and take the girl for ourselves!"
Keigo looked at Anko, and then at the two Numemon. Why were they even asking this? Of course Keigo would go for Anko, no matter what threats the darn champion threw at him.
Instead of having another futile argue, the Veemon remained silent. There wasn't much to be said anyways, because it looked like the Numemon were aware what choice Keigo was making.
"F-f-f-fine! Prepare to d-d-die!" The Numemon sputtered, turning to Anko as he spoke, the other Numemon did the same. The villains were giggling and blubbering at each other for what they were going to do.
Keigo balled his fists, he felt utterly useless in this form. He was but a mere rookie, and those Numemon were two champions. It was really unfair.
Though, despite all of his doubts, the Veemon shut his eyes and finally charged at the two slugs. He needed to protect Anko whether or not, this was his job, his life. He would give his life for his tamer.
The Veemon was hurled away like he was some sort of toy, landing into the hot sand. Keigo sputtered as he tried to get rid of the sand on his tongue.
"Ahahaah! Y-y-you are so funny to watch! I can't believe y-y-you think you can take us on!"
"I don't think I can!" Keigo replied, his voice loud and thick with emotion. "I know I can!"
And with that, the Veemon charged once more.
The egg in the distance began trembling, sort of petrifying both the Numemon that were standing beside the human. As Keigo was still charging at the two champion digimon, the mysterious egg burst open and parts started flying towards the Veemon. Both Numemon were kind of mesmerized at the sight, and were forced to shut their eyeballs as the light that was now coming from Keigo blinded them.

The light shattered, creating an intense burst of energy that flung back both the Numemon. Strangely enough, Anko had not been displaced.
Keigo's eyes widened, and he looked down at his hands. He had digivolved once again, this time because the mysterious egg had apparently recognized his power and pure intentions.
"Wow.." He whispered, and slowly stepped to his tamer to pick her up. Anko stirred, opening her eyes slightly to stare right into the face of Keigo. "..K-Kei.." She wanted to mumble, but the Flamedramon stopped her with a smile. "Easy now, it'll be alright."
[THE END]
