hard as iron
SHARP AS STEEL. STOP FOR NO MAN. YOU'D BETTER BEG AND KNEEL.
His Digivice had started beeping uncontrollably the moment he had entered the Dark Area. Despite having had the device for a year Riku had no idea how it truly worked, but he did know the beeping wasn't normal. It had taken him several minutes to figure out what the beeping actually meant however. A Spirit Totem was nearby, one that was directly connected to Riku himself. Shortly after having figured that out did Riku manage to get a....guide of sorts to pop up. It took the form of a blue arrow that pointed towards the direction Riku assumed the totem was at. The Ashlands, a place so populated with smoke and ash that it had been named for it. Only the strongest and cruelest of the Digimon were capable of surviving within its depths. As a child he had been forbidden from even stepping foot within its entrance by Samudramon. Samudramon was gone now though, and Riku was a child no longer. He couldn't afford to let things like rumors or fear of the unknown hold him back. It wasn't like he had a choice, a key to obtaining more power was housed within and he needed to find it.
He pulled the collar of his cloak up and closer to his face. It wasn't much but it did stop him from drowning in smoke and ash as he advanced. Too bad he hadn't brought anything like goggles. The way the wind was blowing it was knocking all sorts of nasty ash and bits of bone dust up into his face. The only way to keep himself from losing an eye was to keep his eyes squinted. This reduced his field of vision even more than it would have been otherwise. He was just barely able to see the digivice held out in front of him. The blue blinking arrow made it a lot easier for him. "Been walking for hours in the same direction now, is it broken?" there was no answer to his question. At least if he got lost he'd know how to get back out. Regardless he was starting to have his doubts about the effectiveness of his little guide. If things kept up like this he supposed he'd just have to wing it on his own. Maybe he'd even start to hear that voice again, it had been a lot more helpful than this.
Two hours passed before Riku got any type of confirmation that he was heading in the right direction. The arrow, which had been pointing forward suddenly began to point itself downward. The teenager allowed confusion to pass across his features, his head tilting itself to the side. "What the hell?" down? There wasn't anything below his feet but ash covered ground. "You seriously must be broken." Riku tapped his palm against the digivice but the arrow kept its direction. The beeping growing louder and louder as the seconds passed. Riku had thought about covering his ears, but he was going to need boths hands if something strange happened. Which happened the moment his thoughts wandered towards it. The ground beneath his feet began to shake and rumble. Riku almost lost his balance because of the sheer force of the tremor. He took several steps back out of impulsive and just in time too. The ground shattered apart bits of the earth flying pass Riku just narrowly missing the teenager.
He could barely make out what had risen from the ground but he knew that it was dangerous. He drew his sword and let his battle instinct take over as he rolled himself backwards. A bladed tail came crashing down in front of him as he made his roll. He quickly stood himself up in time to get a good look at his attacker, Scorpiomon an ultimate level Digimon. He could feel the fear rising up within him but he fought it down. The undead Digimon lowered itself down to the ground and Riku was able to make out why his D-Tector had lead him here. Jammed between two of the creature's ribs was a totem. Just looking at it was enough for Riku to feel it calling out to him. He wasn't going to be able to beat this thing, Riku knew that, but he could get that totem out from its ribs. "Let's do this." it all happened so quickly, Riku tossed his sword high into the air. His digivice was held out in front of him and with a single swipe of his hand over the surface he was covered in a dark light.
He could feel his form shifting and changing, a dark power building up inside of his body. As the light faded Riku was no longer present in his human form but rather his Spirit form. An Impmon with a hand outstretched towards the sky just in time to catch his blade as it came falling from the heavens. The more powerful Digimon slammed its tail against Impmon's body and the Spirit User let out a grunt of pain. "One." two more hits and he'd be getting an increase in power but that didn't matter, he wasn't in this for the long haul. Impmon recovered quickly and his body was coated in a dark aura. He took off in a sprint a copy of himself appearing behind him. The Scorpiomon was confused, and that was all Impmon needed. He slid himself underneath the creature while it was focused on his doppelganger and with his blade held upward he knocked his totem free. It fell into his free hand and then made his way out from underneath it. He didn't want to stick around and find out what the hell that thing was going to do to him, even with his totem so...he ran away.
Once he was sure the damn thing wasn't following him anymore Riku ended his transformation. The totem within his hands starting to float away and stand before him. He couldn't make out what kind of Digimon the totem was made to remember, but the power flowing from it was noticeable. Now that he was closer he could hear the voice from within talking to him. "Too afraid to fight huh? I suppose we'll have to fix that. You can't have the power of Dark Knightmon and not use it after all." there was dark laugh inside of his mind as he brought his D-Tector towards the totem and it was sucked in. "Whatever..."
