SHARP AS STEEL. STOP FOR NO MAN. YOU'D BETTER BEG AND KNEEL. Riku loved missions like this, they were half of the reason he got into this line of the work in the first place. The other half of it being that it was the only thing he really knew how to do. He supposed that kind of thing happened when you spent your childhood being raised by a samurai dragon. He chuckled at that thought. Samudramon had raised him to be a warrior now hadn't he? Now that the the dark dragon was gone it seemed oddly fitting he'd pick up in his adoptive father's line of work. "Should be an easy mission though. Just hunting down some poor Armadillomon that owes a few bits to the wrong people." he was playing debt collector today, and while the title bothered him the work itself was fun. The title always changed though. Debt collector, murderer, mercancery, and a variety of other titles came to mind but none of them matter. He was just a human trying to get by in this big bad Digital World.
He had probably should have chosen better clothing for a job that took place in the desert but it would have felt weird. Wearing anything other than the outfit he had picked out for when he was on the job certainly did feel strange. He placed a hand on the metal gauntlet that covered his right arm. Much like his sword it was a gift from dear to him. Riku let out a sigh and shook his head tossing the thoughts from his mind as the desert wind began to pick up. "I should probably hurry this up before I get stuck in the middle of sandstorm." he had a ground to cover when it came to finding this Armadillomon after all. Damn thing could have been anywhere, and since places like this were a natural to the bastard it was only going to be harder. He supposed he could just Spirit Evolve and start blowing holes in the ground until he showed himself but where was the fun in that?
He'd do this the hard, at least for now. He began to pick up his pace as he moved making sure to keep his out for any sign of movement. It honestly didn't take him very long to run into someone it just hadn't been who he was looking for. He approached the strange figure in the distance and allowed himself to assume the guise of Zero, the infamous merc. "Hey you! You haven't seen a Armadillomon with a blue scarf wrapped around it's neck have you?" his voice was cold and harsh. Riku's ruby eyes reflecting the same tone as his voice as he stared at the person before him. PHARAOH LEAP. [googlefont=Montserrat]

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Today's location to be explored by Katsuo was the Matrix Sandsea and boy there was soooooo much for him to see there. Like sand and sand... and sand... and more sand. In hindsight he did ponder that why'd he even come here. Like honestly, what would one expect to find from a desert besides FUCKING SAND!
Sighing to himself, the young man dug up a bottle of water and took a sip out of it. Looking around at the vastness of sandy hills that seemed to continued forever, Katsu against his better judgement decided to continued exploring. He had packed enough food and water to go at it for quite a bit and as he had already come here, Katsuo might as well do it all the way. If he doesn't find anything, then too bad.
***
After a good time of walking, the wind had begun to blow a bit stronger, which could be a sign of a storm coming, but Katsuo would have to wait and see if that would happen. Still, ending up in a sandstorm wouldn't be a pleasant experience, so plans of heading back started to form inside his head.
Those however were set aside with someone calling for Katsuo and he made a quick turn to look at the direction of the source of the voice. It was a boy, two or three years younger than Katsuo and just a bit shorter, with black hair and a rather odd getup. The two things that stood up the most were the boy's metal... glove(?) and the sword on his back. On first look, the black haired boy didn't really seem like good company and Katsuo shoved his hand in his bag, grabbing the digivice in there. He didn't pull the device out from the bag, but rather kept it on hand, so that he would be ready for anything. It would be a lie to say that he wasn't feeling tense.
The boy continued speaking with a very harsh tone and questioned if Katsuo had seen an Armadillomon with a blue scarf. Katsuo visibly relaxed, though he still kept his hand ready on the digivice, hidden in the bag. Didn't want to risk it after all. "Nope. Haven't seen anything but sand so far... well, aside from this weird kid that looks like he popped out from a cosplay convention." The young man answered, joking a bit about the black haired boy's gear and giving off a chuckle. It wasn't in spite or to mock the kid, just to make himself and the atmosphere more lax. "What for are you looking for the Armadillomon? Someone you know?" Katsuo asked a question in turn, showing obvious curiosity.

SHARP AS STEEL. STOP FOR NO MAN. YOU'D BETTER BEG AND KNEEL. The man was tense, and the way his hand rushed towards his bag made Riku suspicious. Whatever he had reached into his bag for he didn't bother pulling out which only made Riku even more suspicious of the guy. He'd have thought he was working with Armadillomon if his information had stated that the little bugger took off alone. Still one could never be too sure right? A tch sound escaped from Riku's lips, it would be just his luck he'd end up with a funny guy. Judging by his answer and the way his body relaxed after his question Riku safely tossed out the idea he was working with the Digimon. He still hadn't removed his hand from the bag though... "What the hell is a cosplay convention?" something from the human world maybe? He vaguely remembered hearing about 'cosplay' when he was younger. Those memories were from so long ago though they were all slightly faded in his mind. "Focus Riku you're on the job." he hated how easily his mind wandered away from him sometimes.
The youth let out a small sigh and brought his hand up behind his neck rubbing at it lightly. "Actually forget I asked." he had been about to leave when the guy asked his question. Riku titled his head to the right slightly, "I don't know him personally but the person I work for does." probably shouldn't give away too much but whatever. "He owes my employer some money and ran away before he could pay it back. I got sent here to find him and collect." the way collect rolled off Riku's tongue implied he was meant to get far more than just bits. Killing the Armadillomon hadn't been state specifically but he had been told to do whatever it took to get the money. Which thanks to both Riku and the Spirit of Darkness' nature he often took to mean that he could kill them if he wanted to. Better to remove them from the picture than have an enemy that could come and find you in the future right? It was Riku's turn to ask a question now and his eyes darted towards the man's bag. "What exactly in that bag is worth holding onto for so long?" the teen gave a sly smile.
He then began to walk around the man in a circle clearly doing his best to try and unnerve him. "You know it's quite strange to run into a human all by themselves out in the Digital World. Normally they have a partner digimon following them around, keeping them safe." Riku stopped moving when he was directly behind the man. "I don't see a digimon with you...so unless you've got your partner hiding I think..." Riku moved back in front of the man, and this time he had his digivice in his hand. "You're just like me." of course he could be wrong, which honestly seemed far more likely to be true. Either way it didn't hurt to know after all so far Riku had yet to run into another Spirit User. It was just a hunch though. PHARAOH LEAP. [googlefont=Montserrat]

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | What? The kid spoke Japanese and seemed to even be Japanese in nationality, but didn't know what a cosplay convention. That was a rare thing, but not impossible. Katsuo honestly was more shocked that his remark had pretty much been voiced to deaf ears.
Surprisingly enough, the boy answered Katuso's question, which wasn't really the usual answer he'd get in a situation. Plus, the kid emitted the kind of vibe that would make him seem like the 'lips sealed' or 'few words' type of person. Well, as they say; "Don't judge a book by its cover". Judging by the what the black haired boy talked about, he seemed to be a mercenary or something like that. Quite the unusual part-time job for someone in last year of middle school or 1st year of high school, but Katsuo wasn't judging.
"Keep an eye on the boy. I don't think he means to do things peacefully." Aegiomon decided to pop in to give his opinion about the boy, with his words echoing in the young man's head. The spirit had a point though. From his tone to his getup, he the kid didn't seem all that nice to have looking for you.
Having answered Katsuo's question, the black haired boy decided to once again ask a question, showing curiosity to the young man's hand in the bag. "My lunch. You gotta be careful not to have your food snatched." Katsuo chuckled, barely holding a believable poker face.
Next the boy started circling around the young man, and he couldn't help but snicker a bit at the sight. The boy honestly started to seem more and more like a villain of some sorts.
Still, Katsuo was listening and once the kid appeared back in front of him, with a same modeled digivice in hand as his own. So he was a Spirit Wielder too apparently. Not having met another one yet, Katsuo was a bit surprised by seeing a digivice similar to his own and it showed. "Hahaha. Sorry. No idea what you're talking about..." Katsuo outright lied, and failed miserable at it, his poker face being nonexistent this time.

SHARP AS STEEL. STOP FOR NO MAN. YOU'D BETTER BEG AND KNEEL. This dude was totally lacking in the lying deparment. If they had been playing poker Riku was positive he'd have been able to get this guy for everything he was worth. The merc scoffed at the older boy's reply to his question, "Do you take me for an idiot?" Riku's tone grew harsh to reflect his distaste for the men's lie. He didn't quite understand why the man needed to lie to him in the first place, it was clear Riku had managed to figure it out. People were confusing like that sometimes, Digimon too, made them hard to predict unless you truly knew them. Even then you could only make a basic assumption of what they were going to do. Riku hated it, prefered for things to be more set in stone. Displeasure passed across Riku's features when the man lied to him again. "You're a shitty liar." if Riku hadn't made it clear that he wasn't going to fall for this guy's bullshit he had now.
"You could always make him use it, after all aren't you itching for some conflict? I know that I am." Dark Knightmon's voice whispered inside of Riku's mind. A foreign presence that always made the skin on the back of Riku's neck crawl. He didn't have a reason to fight the guy though, even if something inside of him was itching to it. Granted the battle that ensued might cause enough noise and destruction to bring the Armadillomon out of hiding. Riku let out a sigh and lowered his digivice to his side. That's right this entire thing was just one big distraction from his job. The longer he spent integrating a guy who clearly knew nothing the more time Armadillomon had to flee.
"Fuck it, I'm just wasting my time here." he gave a shrug of his shoulder. He started walking, and had gotten a few feet behind the man when he heard it. The sound of the sand shifting beneath their feet. Someone or something was getting closer to them, and it was doing a pretty poor job of being sneaky. He stopped moving and turned around to face the man's back again. Riku's sword was removed from its location on his back and gripped in between his hands. "Move and I'll cut you down." he had pretty much decided that that he was going to use the stranger as a bait now. Draw whatever was coming to him and then get it while it was distracted. Assuming of course the guy wanted to keep up the act of being clueless. PHARAOH LEAP. [googlefont=Montserrat]

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Katsuo's lie seemed to just piss the kid off and he even went ahead to state that the young man was a 'shitty liar', which was absolutely true and Katsuo was well aware of that, so he didn't take any offense from the comment. Rather, he just laughed. "Well, I guess we both have something we're shit at." Katsuo commented, referencing to the black haired boy's fashion sense.
The kid really did seem fed up and seemed to have decided to leave, but made a sudden stop with once the sound of sand shifting was heard by both guys. It came from under the two. Did they get some company? If so, then how strong was the enemy? While asking these questions in his head, Katsuo's thought process was cut off by the sight of seeing the boy grab his sword off of his back and pointing it at Katsuo. The boy made a threat to keep Katsuo in place. Was he supposed to be a bait to the boy? "Rude." The young man commented, keeping a calm face and raising his free hand up in the air, in a sign that he meant no harm. "Ever heard of 'please', boy?" Katsuo asked with a smirk. He would a month ago felt threatened by someone pointing a knife at him, but with his digivice at hand, he felt pretty safe.
Katsuo sighed loudly, feeling a bit bothered by this situation. "If you're that pissed about me lying, then I'm sorry." He apologized, giving a small bow. No point in playing ignorant anymore, and though he did feel safe, having a sword pointed at you wasn't all too pleasant. "Now, put the sword away and we can deal with whatever's moving around together. It's much safer to both of us that way." Katsuo gave a friendly smile, trying to get the boy more lax. Things were getting rather heavy. If things kept going like this, then the kid might turn into another opponent to fight with, which wouldn't be surprising because the kid was rather hostile.

SHARP AS STEEL. STOP FOR NO MAN. YOU'D BETTER BEG AND KNEEL. Work together? Surely this dude didn't think he'd be getting portion of the profits for completing the mission right? Bits made the Digi-World go around and he wasn't about to start sharing his cut with strangers. He wasn't going to deny the fact that the guy had a point. They'd be able to handle this quicker if they worked together rather than dealing with this solo. He didn't like it, but it was worth a shot. Riku lowered his sword a groan escaping from his lips, "Alright but I'm not sharing the reward if this turns out to be my target." he needed to make that very clear. The merc stabbed his weapon into the soft sand in front of him and cracked his neck. Whatever was making their way towards them was going to be here soon; they only had a little bit of time to get ready. He was going to have skip the flare he normally gave his digivolution. A line of code appeared around Riku's left hand and he swiped it across the top of his digivice. Spirit_Evolution_Active_ Darkness coiled itself around Riku's body until he wasn't able to be seen. He could feel the pulse of energy that came with his transformation, and in matter of seconds it was over. Riku the human was no more and instead Riku the Impmon took his place. The tiny devil picked his sword up from the ground and his green eyes glared towards his temporary 'partner'. "If you're going to digivolve I suggest you do it now." his tone didn't change despite the newly formed partnership. It was only a couple of moments after Riku finished speaking that the threat arrived before them. It rose up from the sand with a howl, it's golden body shined in the sunlight. Spikes jetted out from the top of four legged creatures shell, and it's tail was basically a mace. Wrapped firmly around the creatures neck was a blue scarf covered in bits of the sand. Ankylomon the Armadillomon Riku had been chasing managed to digivolve. This was certainly going to make things more intertesting. "I'll never pay that con artist!" barked the Digimon as it swung its tail towards the blonde. Thankfully Impmon had been fast enough to intercept the attack, his sword clashing against the targets tail. He gritted his teeth as he dug himself into the sand. A wave of pain shot through his body despite having managed to block the attack. "Are you going to help or what?" Impmon swung his sword to the right knocking the weaponized tail away from him. He pointed a hand forward and launched out a sphere of black fire towards the Ankylomon, it clashed against the shell and Ankylomon chuckled. It clearly hadn't done anything but tickled the fucker. He probably could have fought on fair ground with the guy if he digivolved again but he didn't want to reveal too much about himself to the stranger behind him. PHARAOH LEAP. [googlefont=Montserrat]

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | A chuckle escaped from Katsuo, as the boy told that he didn't have any plans of sharing the reward. The kid really was a mercenary, straight out of some fantasy series, right down to the reluctance of working together with someone.
The black haired boy performed Spirit Evolution and transformed into the Rookie level Digimon, Impmon. Done with his transformation, the kid told that it would be good time to transform. Katsuo however was already holding his digivice in left hand and a circle of data hovering around his free, right hand. Before the now Impmon merc could finish his sentence, Katsuo slid the data across the top of his digivice.
SPIRIT EVOLUTION With a burst of data and lightning, instead of a stylish high school student, there now stood a young boy with the legs of a goat and spiky, silver hair. Clenching and opening his fist, Katsuo could just feel the power of the Champion level Digimon, Aegiomon's power.
With the thing that had been going around being an Ankylomon, with a blue scarf around its neck. The other thing that got Katsuo's attention was the Digimon's words. It seemed like there really was something more to this than just someone escaping debts.
The things swung its tail towards Aegiomon and he was already prepared to jump to avoid the attack, but before he could do that, the Impmon stepped between and blocked it. Quite impressive for someone at a Rookie level.
The merc kid asked if Katsuo was going to help and by the point he had finished asking, the Aegiomon ran past him. "Already on it!" He yelled, continuing his dash towards the Ankylomon. During this time the Impmon knocked the tail and fired a ball of black fire at the enemy, though it obviously barely did anything, with the Digimon just being amused.
Katsuo, now close enough, jumped up into the air, straight towards the Ankylomon's face. "IRON TRUST!" He yelled, kicking the enemy Digimon with the combined power of Aegiomon's leg and momentum, knocking the Ankylomon off of its feet. While the big thins fell down on the ground, Katsuo landed safely on the sand and turned to look at the boy. "Can't you get to a higher level? You won't be able to help much like that." The young man said bluntly. He had a suspecting feeling that the kid wasn't going full force, as one at only Rookie level can't really do that good in this world, especially if he was someone that took jobs of all kind.
With his attention fully on the Impmon, Katsuo had forgotten about the Ankylomon and received a surprise tackle from its big mass and was launched into the air by the force of the attack. "Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!!" The Aegiomon yelled as it flew a solid 30 meters across the air and landed in the sand, head first, ending up sunken so deep that only his goat legs popped out from the sand. Though deep in sand, Katsuo effortlessly got himself out and one could almost hear the 'pop' sound when he did. "Anyways! My point! Don't hold back!" He yelled to the Impmon, spitting some sand from his mouth after doing so. He really hoped that the kid could achieve at least Champion level, not because Katsuo wasn't confident about winning, but rather because it would thing a whole lot easier.

SHARP AS STEEL. STOP FOR NO MAN. YOU'D BETTER BEG AND KNEEL. Riku wasn't going to admit it outline but the guy had a point. They were going to stand a far better chance at this if Riku wasn't holding himself back. He was letting that sense of paranoia and distrust get the better of him now. He gritted his teeth and jumped backward several times. Thankful his 'partner' seemed quite capable of keeping him busy. That was until he had let himself get distracted, he watched as the goat went face first into the sand. Riku let out a groan and rolled his eyes. Yeah, he was definitely going to need a power boost if that was how his makeshift ally fought. "Idiot." was all Riku said as he performed the slide into his champion state. Much like before darkness consumed the young boy, and when it broke apart the large and imposing form of Dark Knightmon was present on the battlefield.
The warrior dashed forward, his movement speed slowed due to the weight of his body on the sand. He made it next to Aegiomon just in time to witness the Ankylomon rise up from the sand several feet in front of them. Dark Knightmon held his double side spear at the ready. "I suggest you pay up Ankylomon before this gets even more ugly for you, or don't, either way I'm walking away with the bits you owe." he made no attempt to hide the ill intent in his voice. He wanted Ankylomon to keep fighting, to refuse the peaceful option. It was going to give him and the Spirit of Darkness exactly what they were looking for.
"You think I'm gonna back down just because you brought a friend? Well your wrong! That bastard ripped me off and he knows it! Those matches were rigged and I'm not gonna pay for a set up." Dark Knightmon was pretty sure the Ankylomon was trying to get him to sympathise with his plight. It wasn't going to work though. He wasn't paid to care about the backstory of his task, he was paid to care it out. It was as simple as that. Allowing yourself to get bogged down and attached to the details wasn't going to make you a good mercenary, or a good warrior. Samudramon had taught him that.
"So be it." there was a hint of joy in Dark Knightmon's voice as his spear filled the dark energy. The Ankylomon roared and began to dig its way under ground. He tossed his spear forward, hoping that it managed to hit against the ground before the Ankylomon went under. It hadn't. The spear hit against the surface of the sand just as the enemy digimon went under. An explosive dome of dark energy was released from the impact. The sheer size of it caused it to just barely touch in front of Dark Knightmon and Aegiomon's faces. "Damn, we better get moving no telling where he'll strike from now." damn thing was tricky.
Dark Knightmon made his way towards his spear, the only real fault with Infernal Javelin was the fact he had to retrieve his weapon afterwards. His hands wrapped themselves around the handle of the weapon and as it did the Ankylomon bursted up from the ground directly in front of him. He had little to react as the Digimon made its move. "SAND TSUNAMI!" it shouted, a massive wave of sand washed over Dark Knightmon crushing his body without remorse. It eventually made its way towards Aegiomon as well, whatever the hell he happened to be.
Dark Knightmon slowly rose up form the sand cursing at himself as he did so. He had been such an idiot for not thinking that he was walking into a trap. He took a couple of deep breathes and began to look around for his target, but Ankylomon was nowhere to be seen. PHARAOH LEAP. [googlefont=Montserrat]

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Katsuo witnessed the Impmon going to the next level, transforming into Dark Knightmon and whistled having been impressed. Its appearance was rather cool, but it also bothered the young man a bit. Aegiomon really wasn't that tall of a Digimon. Hell, he actually grows a bit shorter when Spirit Evolving, while both Dark Knightmon and Ankylomon are rather sizable. "Ah, well. I can just make it up with speed." He muttered to himself, maybe just a tad bit jealous. Maybe.
Things escalated a lot, with Katsuo listening to the exchange some words. He wouldn't know which side was right or telling the truth, as he was a third party involved in this. What bothered him more was the fact that neither sides even bothered to try to solve this peacefully, with hostility practically oozing from both big Digimon. Well, in a way it could be understandable, but still.
With the blast of dark energy being so close to hitting, Katsuo made a bit of a panicked motion with his hands and took a couple of steps back, just in case. "Careful there." The Aegiomon said to the Dark Knight, tapping lightly the Digimon's leg with his fist.
With the Ankylomon having escaped under the sand dunes, the kid recommended that the two would move out and Katsuo agreed. "Right. Let's g- Eh?" He replied, but cut himself off as the opponent popped back up and created a gigantic wave of sand. "EEEEEEEEEEEEEHPFHHF-" Both of the Spirit Wielders were swallowed under the sand tsunami, muffling any yell from Katsuo.
Basically digging himself up from under all the sand, while waiting for the Dark Knightmon to rise from under there, the Aegiomon himself spat any sand that was in his mouth. He was honestly getting tired of being in the desert.
Once the kid had gotten himself up, Katsuo leaped up with the power of his goat legs and landed on the Dark Knightmon's shoulder. He wanted to close up for this and make sure that the Ankylomon wouldn't hear it. "I have a way of making the Ankylomon attack me, as long as it hears me. I'll try to use it, so prepare to attack it if it pops up." Katsuo whispered and once done, leaped off of the knight Digimon's shoulder and made some distance between the two.
Once deeming he was far enough, Katsuo grabbed the Syrinx hanging around his neck and began playing a tune with it, using ATTRACT ECHO. He however wasn't going to do only that, but was also going to charge a move of his. Letting his other hand go of the pipe instrument, but continuing to play the beautiful melody, the Aegiomon raised his free arm to the level of his shoulder and began charging it with lightning.
