DIGIMON LORE
Digimon: Digimon is an acronym for "Digital Monsters" and refers to a species of lifeform that is composed of data and code rather than organic matter. They first appeared officially in 1979, with the first human to Digimon interaction then occuring five years later in 1984. They come in many different sizes, shapes, and forms, having nearly as much variation as the animal kingdom - if not more.
Anatomy: Digimon have unique anatomies unlike anything seen on Earth. While most organic Digimon do have digitized flesh and blood and are capable of bleeding, their organs function quite differently. In fact, most of their organs are different, being wired more like a computer system than a body. These organs can appear differently in different Digimon (for example, machines and puppets) but are for the most part, present in all of them in some form. Digimon are capable of leaving behind bodies, but they usually degrade into free data within five minutes of death.
In the real world, a Digimon's digital makeup is for the most part completely translated into the real world flawlessly; their data taking on the traits of flesh and blood, henceforth giving them real bodies. Digimon however do not adhere to real world's laws of physics at all when it comes to what is possible and what is not. Even in the real world, a Digimon's body will disperse into data; eventually either being reabsorbed into the Digital World or being stranded in limbo.
Digicore: This is the heart and brain of a Digimon, usually taking the form of a glowing orb and being located at the center of a Digimon's body.
Wires: Nerves. These connect the Digicore to other parts of the body.
Stomach: Perhaps the only similar organ Digimon have to humans. Functions the same, too. Their digestive systems are usually superhuman levels of tough, though.
Gender and Reproduction: Digimon when it comes to gender can be generally a mixed bag. While there are plenty of Digimon species whom are easily categorized as male or female, Digimon are a case-by-case basis when it comes to gender. Some individual Digimon have physical genders, while others do not have a physical gender, but identify as whatever they believe suits them best.
Reproduction likewise is also not guranteed to be the same per individual. Sexual reproduction DOES occur with some Digimon pairings, but its often just a personal choice. Often times, a couple can merely share data to create a Digitama OR a particularly strong Digimon can just expend data to create an egg.
Digitamas are not limited to originating from other Digimon. Sometimes they can arise from stray data mutating and conglomerating into an egg, or by artificial means. Digitamas of course can also arise from the data of deleted Digimon, though this is often just considered to be a form of reincarnation provided personality and memories are the same.
