Smack! Thud! WHOP! POW!
The sounds of the fists striking the punching bag echoed clear through the small dojo. It was late at night and he was there alone. He had decided to come during this time of night so he didn't have to interact with too many people and gave him space to work without causing... unwanted attention. A red-headed man swung punches and kicks into the weighed punching bag, trying his best to work out his own frustrations and put his martial arts to better use.
Enja Kratos as he was called, had been a born fighter. He never tired from his exertions in the ring or in classic martial arts. Born to an old clan of ninjas, he was taught martial arts as far back as he remembered and learned to use the arts well. However, in this modern world, the place of martial arts had little place outside of just sport. As such, using his fists often had become more of an urge than anything else. He wanted purpose for his fists. However it just got him into more trouble than anything else.
No matter how many fights he won in the arena... or how many women he took into his bed, that drive to fight continued to feed the fires of his soul. Perhaps it was the curse to still follow the old ways of the ninja in this day and age. It was in the end why Enja chose to leave.
He became a whirlwind of strikes, cries of rage escaping him with each impact as he struck the punching bag. He struk harder and harder, causing it to swing with each motion. Sweat dripped down his brow and chest, his eyes a slight glow of red as he struck harder.
The iron chain holding the bag swung violently till finally, after a wide and strong round house kick that took him clear off the ground, the chain broke from too much wear and force. The bag went thud against the mats below as he saw the bag fall. Sand had leaked from the bag as the man looked at it, a blank expression of discontent on his face. It was the second time he had broken one of the bags in his efforts in a week.
A sigh escaped him as he worked out his shoulders, and looked to the clock. It was nearly 11 pm, and wouldn't be long before the gym would lock up for the night. Grabbing his loose towel he had on the floor, he swing it over his shoulder and went to the locker rooms.
What a bore... he thought and left.
He took a quick shower and threw on a pair of pants and a t-shirt from his gym bag. He always felt more comfortable in his gi, but not smart to wear out in the city. Once finished and putting on his sandals, he went out into the streets of Tokyo. The sound and lights of the city already were starting to irritate him once more...

The streets of Tokyo were always busy and crowded. Even at this late hour, it was hard to ever find a peaceful place there. Not like the mountains where he used to live. Enja had once lived near Kyoto, and trained in martial arts and ninjutsu there-- as his family had done before him. He was grateful for the strength he developed, but in a world no longer tied by the old traditions, it had little place anymore beside for self discipline.
A concept, it seemed, was lost on Enja and resulted in his leave to find himself. And that search only made him angry as he saw the state of the world around him. So dependent on technology.
A snarl formed in the corner of his mouth. Weaklings... he thought as he passed by several people, all huddled together but looking at their cellphones.
It was the middle of summer, hense his lighter dress attire. Even at night it was still moderately warm in the city. Only reason he had come was his latest matches were here in the city downtown. He did love the feel of it. The cheers of the crowd, the excitement to fight another opponent and match fists with them. Enja had his fare share of losses too, but he always worked to overcome them. Sure, he got money for his efforts, winning pots for his fights, but he did it more for the challenge than just the money. Of course his 'handler' couldn't care less as he was getting money often. For now though, it was one of his nights off. Despite that, he went towards the direction of the arena, curious to see the fights go on now.
The arena was hidden in an old warehouse area, clearly out of sight for its 'questionable conduct'. That was the kind of atmosphere he had grown used to. People, despite the discreteness of the fights, still came, making it quite crowded as he saw two men fight one another. As it was mixed martial arts, Enja enjoyed to see the different styles. One was an american, using boxing fights as he fought a chinese kung fu fighter. It was an interesting blend of different styles. As for Enja, he sat in a cheap metal chair and watched as the fighting unfolded. As bets went around, he didn't bother placing any. He took the fight for what it was, a chance to see the strength of two men clash. Luckily, no one recognized him among the crowd.
This is what made him feel alive, far more than just the use of machines as many people had. He desired combat and strength over anything else, outside of just growing cushy with machines and technology alone. He desired more than that... There was a time he learned that it was respected in the ancient past. But that time had been gone for a long time.
The crowd cheered as the amercian knocked the chinese fighter out of the ring for round one. He had gotten a good view of what he could expected. A smirk came to his face, putting a personal bet on who knew would walk away from the match the true winner.

As he suspected, the kung fu fighter ended up the winner. First impressions of the matches in fights were often misleading, but unless you had a key eye of how another person reacts and responds, it was a good way to learn how it would work. It was a simple way to estimate a bet. Though Enja was not a betting man, he liked risks every once in a while. With the small bit of money he earned, he went to one of the nearby bars there. The late night life was still buzzing as he sat at the nearby bar, helping himself to a stiff drink to keep himself up. He was curt but not rude in his order as he soon got an order in.
His attention was soon drawn as he looked next to him as a young woman sat beside him. At first, when she casually struck up a conversation with him-- he thought she was one of THOSE girls. The ones who expected generous types. Enja didn't go for that. If he wanted a girl for the night, he got it the old fashion way. He didn't pay her much mind for much, drinking deeply from his beer as he still dwelled in his thoughts.
At that time, the lady left, realizing she was barking up the wrong tree -- pun intended in his mind as he thought the same thing. He was far more interested in the other one near the bar, who was actually there for the same reason as he was. To relax and have a good drink. Spotting him, she soon approached him. "Pardon me, but are you Enja. You're... from the fights, aren't you?" she asked.
Finishing a swig of his beer, he turned and looked her over. She was a brunette with light colored skin, and light eyes. Enja smirked at her interest. "Yeah, that's right." he replied simply.
"Oh, I um... I saw you fight. It was a good one. I just wanted to congratulate you," she said with a bow.
A smirk curled at his lip as he put down his drink. "Not the type of sport I'd imagine someone like you would enjoy," he commented.
"Well it was really my boy-- er ex-boyfriend's idea. Still, I was impressed by you," she said, a clear indicating hint there as she corrected himself.
He tried hard to keep his expression solid as he got a clear signal. He had a clear idea how this night would end as he soon ordered her a drink as well...
...Later that night.
The remaining evening was warm, sweaty and loud from after the two had return to the hotel loft where Enja had been staying, and needless to say, there were no complaints after the vigorous events that happened in the bedroom. Enja had a type of work out he always enjoyed, and all the time, so did his female 'sparring partner'. As she slept with the covers wrapped around, Enja was still awake however. Only in a pair of boxers at this point, he still felt restless. Despite training, the fights and even the women he had 'conquered' in that sense of the word, he still felt the need to do more.
A sigh escaped him as he stood up and went to the ajoining living room nearby to let the girl sleep-- and to look out at the city from the height of the penthouse view.

He turned up the air conditioner a degree as he passed it into the living room, still in his boxers as he looked at the full view window that overlooked the city. It was still dark enough to not be too blinding, but the city lights continued to twinkle below him. Despite the glamor and allure of the city and all its distractions, Enja disapproved of it. He disliked it, even with its luxuries. He preferred his older home near Kyoto, in the more rural areas. Still it reminded him despite how great human society has grown, it also shown how complainant it had become. They were all so lax and lazy, letting the easy way out of things instead of working for it.
It disgusted him to see people act like that, so enveloped in technology they couldn't understand the world around them anymore. Still, he knew and he worked to be physically fit. It was the way the world truly worked. Survival of the fittest.
He sat himself down on the couch nearby, looking out at the view of the city through the corner of his eye. His room was a decorated suit with drapes, a sky blue wallpaper and carpeted flooring-- with a large couch he now sat on. A television was across from him, turned off and useless to him for the time being as he pondered his thoughts. A small utility computer was located at the corner of the room-- something he didn't use despite the hotel's generosity. He felt the odd urge to go out again and fight, but he knew better as he tried to calm the whirlwind of his mind.
Despite his physical prowess, fame, money and even the beautiful women-- including the one still asleep in his bedroom-- it was not enough for him.
Krrrzztt...
The sound of static caught his attention. Snapping his head up, he looked to t he sound-- it coming from the computer in the corner. He looked puzzled, having never turned it on up till now. He had never touched it. And yet, the screen was on and spouting some garbled gibbirish. Curious, he sat up and went to look at it.
The static was just that, static and it was annoying to him. Looking under the table, he found the power cord. Grabbing a hold of it, he pulled the cord and the screen went black again. Tossing the cord down, he went back to seat himself on the couch...
... but then the same static appeared. Despite after he had pulled the power from the device. He turned slowly, perplexed. "Alright... if this things spits out a ghost or something, I am gonna be pissed..." he said to himself as he looked back at the screen.
Something soon was visible through the screen, a strange scenery of some kind of lava and fiery landscape off somewhere. From it, a strange figure could be seen. Perhaps he was half-dreaming, delirious from all the heat of this warm summer. He rubbed his head, trying to make sense of what was going on.
All he saw however, was the volcanic area, and the flames. Flames that seemed to have eyes...
Drawn to his thirst for power.

The rest of that night was a blur to Enja, as he soon slowly was roused by the gentle touch of the woman next to him. Her... 'hands' up against his back as she leaned against him. He enjoyed it how she roamed his body, her caress stopping on his arm where his shuriken tattoo was. "Hey... last night was fun," she whispered.
A soft growl like sound escaped him, showing his appreciation for her enthusiasm as well. "Can't say I do anything small," he replied.
She leaned down for a kiss, likely as a thank you as she was half-dressed. " I need to take off sadly. Give me a call sometime," she said winking as he groggily pulled himself up from the sheets of his bed, his eyes still blurry of sleep. As he rubbed his head, she finished putting on her top and turned to him. "By the way, I found some strange cell phone thing of yours on the living room. I left it on the table in the living room. Just so you don't lose it." she said. With a goodbye-blow kiss, she winked at him and left to continue with her other business. Likely to get home and freshen up for the day ahead.
The sunlight was blinding to him as he got up, confused about what she was talking about. At first he thought he left his smart phone in the living room, however as he got up again, he looked to his bedroom night stand. His own phone was sitting on the recharging station, having not left its place since he put it there.
At first, it didn't bother him as he got ready himself. He took a hot shower, waking up fully and reveling in the pleasures of the previous night. He got dressed in a pair of training gi he wore often, sash and sandals, his usual dress attire where he felt most comfortable in. As he emerged from his bedroom, he looked around to find what she was talking about. He checked on the table near the window... and found it.
A strange device that certainly was NOT his cell phone. The memories of last night still were a blur to him. He didn't recall what happened, simply shrugging it off as a dream. However as he saw it, he got a strange feeling of familiarity to it. The device was not a cell phone as he had seen. It was a black, oval shaped device. It fit into the same style as one's hand, bending to its shape. It had three buttons on the center in a "V" shape, along with one button on the side, like a trigger for a gun. The screen was surrounded by a hexagon shape, and at the top was a strange little lens, like a bar-code reader. The device was an odd color of black and red as he picked it up, holding the handle part easily in his hand as he looked at it.
