Mission: Maze Madness!

(GM Post. It is unanimous. Going down the right corridor.) 

They all choose to brave the right corridor leading to the stairwell, one going up another one going down. And also it seemed in the interest to go up-- not down. Zachary and the others would soon begin their climb to the upper floors of the castle. The way were lit by several torches along the walls, providing enough light for them to easily see as they climbed the steps. 

However, one thing was clear-- it wouldn't be so easy to climb. As Yana and Degas would reach the top, Yana Sekigawa , ended up stepping on a cobblestone block of the floors, triggering a trap! 

The stairs suddenly slid sideways, becoming a slide! Zachary and Nicholas were sent falling backwards! The stairs became a winding slide and sent them falling out of sight to another part of the castle! 

After a series of twists and turns down a spiraling slide-- they soon landed flat on their asses, with their digimon falling behind them! 

YOU HAVE BEEN SEPARATED! 

All members have been separated and have been landed into different parts of a twisting, turning maze. Going back the way you came now, since the entry points have become inaccessible. Attempt to navigate your way though to find one another.

Yana Sekigawa & DegasVilku - They are in a neutral hallway, leading to an open area beyond the doorway, along with a two way hallway adjacent to either side to it.

Zachary Scryer & Nicholas Hyde - These two are in a dimly lit area of the halls, seeing an circular hallway with a hole in the middle, a winding stair well going upward. The dungeon area was a lot more grim, with skeletons tied to the wall and random weapons displayed on the wall as well.

(OOC: WOrk your way through the areas as a group of 2, and be creative to find a way to get back together. )

"I guess its unanimous," Zachary said, willingly agreeing with the choice to go to the right. Panthermon nodded in agreement as they went down the passage towards the stairs.

The progress was simple enough till they reached the top of the set of stairs where Yana had accidentally stepped on something. A switch, triggering a trap on the stairs-- and Zachary and Nicolas went falling backwards!

"AAAAAAAHH!!" Zachary screamed as they went sliding down the stairs, transforming into a new passage and caused them to slide out of sight! Panthermon slid with them, the cat digimon trying to stop himself but couldn't as the surface was too steep and smooth to claw into.

They all twisted and turned-- till they landed in a heap on the cold and dark stone of wherever they ended up. Zachary ended up landing on Panthermon, who landed on Nicholas-- and Pawnchessmon landing on Zachary "OUCH!" Zachary shouted, feeling the metallic digimon land on him, minor knocking at his head.

Slowly they would be able to get untangled and up, Panthermon shaking his body about to get the dust out and straighten his fur. "Well, looks like this place likes to mess with us in the end either way," Panthermon growled, looking at the far grimmer atmosphere of the chamber they were in.

Looking around and regaining his bearings, Zachary checked to make sure they were all okay. "You alright, Nicholas?" Zachary asked, offering him a hand up.

After which, he realized now the truth they were forced to separate, and that was not good. Still, he was not about to play to the rules of the creepy castle so easily. Reaching into his pocket, he took out his digivice and thumbed through the buttons-- finding the Nexus app. He soon opened the one he was looking for and activated it, causing the screen to light up with a bright Nexus Logo.

The digivices could detect other digivices and signals-- but they sadly couldn't be used to contact the people they belonged to. However, thanks to help with friends in Nexus, they had been able to expand on the Digivice's critical functions. One of which was the power to communicate with one another! While sadly, the extension only worked for members of Nexus, it still was a handy function-- and luckily, there was one Nexus member in the castle with them.

"Hello? Hello!" Zachary spoke into the digivice, trying to reach her. "Yana, it's Zachary! Do you read me?" Zachary called out, trying to raise Yana on the communicator app.

(OOC: Zachary helps Nicholas as they study their surroundings. Attempting to reach Yana on the communicator for Nexus members, planning to communicate now that they are separated. )

Well, seems like everyone was in agreement. Going up it was. The light wasn't perfect, but it allowed them to go up the stairs without any real issue. That was until they reached the top and heard a distinct 'click'.

"Oh crap."

And the next thing Hyde knew, he, Zachary, and their digimon, were sliding down the stairs, going past the floor they had started on and finally landing at the very bottom. Being in the back, Hyde hit the ground first, only to have Panthermon, then Zachary, THEN Sable all land atop of him. He swore, this was like something out of a cartoon! Thankfully, they others were all quick yo get off of him, Zachary asking him if he was alright. "I've endured worse," he muttered, getting to his feet. That wasn't an idle boast as well. As Zachary tried to reach Yana on his communicator, Hyde glanced around the place. Well, this was cheerful. Bones, weapons, and two ways to go. A hole going down, and a stairway going up. Well, if the bones were anything to go by, going down was probably a bad idea. Trying to reunite with the others was probably the smartest thing to do.

He tapped Zachary on the shoulder. "We should get moving. We aren't helping anyone standing around here." He began to walk towards the stairs, making sure Zachary was following him before reaching for his radio. "Heartbreaker, this is Dealer. We've fallen into the lower areas of the castle. Attempting to reach your position. You'd better damn well respond."

This was kind of a moot choice since they had virtually no clue what might await them on either end. If this turned out to be a labyrinth of some kind they should simply make the same choice over and over again and see where it might lead, if anything to help keep them from getting lost. Owing to a lack of objections rather than a properly considered consensus, the party chose to go up the stairs, but the whole eerie randomness of the place they were in wasted no time in shuffling the deck. Yana herself didn't even realize it was anything she did that activated the trap, "Zach, Hyde!!", she called out, with an urgent look, grabbing on to the railing and stretching out her hand, but it was too late. They were already falling and too far out of her reach to take her hand. It felt like this whole place was toying with them...! Gulping, she stared at them as long as she could, actually relieved to still hear them scream as it meant they were still capable of doing so. They may be hurt, but they were all alive. The big problem is, how to reunite, "H-how do we find them now?!", Yana asked half thinking out loud and half asking Degas who was still around "Your digivice, Nana-chan.", Ari pointed out, and it didn't look like she was the only one to have that idea. As Yana reached for her digivice, it too rung; it was Zachary calling her, "Zach!!", she said, similing relieved, "Where are you?! Can you see the way up?!", she's ask, frantically, "Ari can Digivolve into Nefertimon, we get down there and pick you up!"

Degas  being closest to the stairs began running up them.

"Race ya." He called to the others. He was at the top before he knew it. So slow he murmured to himself. He watched as Yana came up after him. Then the stairs moved and the others went slipping and sliding.

"Shoot, If only I had been at the end I would have gotten that ride." Degas commented. "It looked fun."

Yana responded through her digivice after her pocket talked. Speaking of talking pockets. 

"Yo boss man," Degas said fishing his out and talking into it. "You made my butt talk." He said jokingly.

"This works out either way. We'll cover more ground. If nothing else we can put a few holes in the ground and drop in on ya." Degas said chuckling.

"Dear Ladies. Do not fret. Though I am more than sure you can handle yourselves. I am also here to protect you." Degas said to Yana and her partner.

"We aren't getting anywhere just standing around. Shall we?" He said motioning to the hall.

Separated, each member were now trying to reach one another via both their digivices and their own wits. It seemed their challenge would be in the form of navigation. While it was not as deadly as other threats in the castle, it had led many travelers astray for good reason. They would soon see the shape of the maze they were in.

As Zachary and Nickolas ventured up the stairs and Yana and Degas would reach the rooms beyond both points--

Infinity Maze

Each party wouldn't see them easily, as it was a space that literally twisted and turned gravity and space like a pretzel. It was one of the many tricks this castle was capable of. As Yana and Degas would appear on a bridge that crossed to another point of the room, Zachary and Nickolas would emerge from the spiral staircase going upward. If they looked carefully, they could see one another... except one small detail.

Each one of them were sideways or from one another! This was the beginning of a brain-twisting challenge for each of them as they would have to find a way to reach one another, on the same angle!

OOC: You are now in a staircase maze-- yes, like the classic artwork. The maze of the Apocryphal is literally a multi-dimensional maze within the digital world, causing warps in space and gravity to result in a place where its difficult to get out, let alone find one another!

But there is a way.

Using the dice roll mechanic on the site (IC how you navigate through it), each of you are to roll a number between 1 and 20. In order for each group to reunite with the other, on the same gravity level for that matter , one of your group must roll the same number as one from another group.

Difficult odds-- however, as each turn passes, the number pool will shrink depending upon your efforts. (Example: First round - 1 through 20. Second round - 1 through 15. ) You might get lucky and get out easy. However, the longer each turn passes, the more challenges you might face!

(Response from last posts) - Zachary and Nicholas were alright as Panthermon kept a vigilant eye out. For the time being, there was no present danger around, but considering the views of tortured skeletons in this place, it was wise to not stay there. Zachary agreed with Nicholas on that front. "I agree. Believe me staying here is a bad idea, "  Zachary said as he continued to hold his

He was surprised to see that NIcholas had his own communication line to Degas as well, just as he could reach Yana. Zachary spoke again into his digivice to reach Yana. Hearing her offer about sending Ani down to get them, Zachary shook his head. "No-- best save your strength? You head down, and we will work our way up and meet hopefully in the middle. Listen, just keep your digivice radar open. We will use that to tell where we are and with any luck, we might find one of the lost tamers here as well with it," He explained, trying to think of the best way to go about the present situation. "Just keep your communicator open with me till we meet up again." He said.

Overhearing Degas' comment, Zachary frowned. A twinge of jealousy went through him, the fact HE was alone with Yana and Ani of all people. "And Degas-- I'm warning you. You do anything inappropriate to Yana and Gatomon, I'll have Panthermon maul you again," he grumbled, lowering his digivice.

As Nicholas was a bit ahead, Zachary ran after him with their digimon following loyally.

(Present reaction)

Zachary and Nicholas emerged from the steps that were spiraling upward, leading to another bank of steps that stretched to an arch. The room they were in was much brighter in lighting, but still something about the place gave Zachary a headache. It was as if the architecture of the room was twisted in some way. Turning his attention to his digivice, and avoiding a possible headache, he looked to try and find the signal to Yana and Degas. He soon found it, two blinking lights in the direction left of him.

"Yana, I spotted you. I think we are in the same..." Zachary said, but was cut short as he caught sight of her... but something was very very off... "Um... Yana, do you notice anything strange about where you are?"

From his point of view, spotting the two in a distance on a nearby bridge extending to another part of the room, he saw that their teammates were walking along a VERTICAL SURFACE. They were just there, not falling off what clearly would of been a drop!

"Why are you walking along a wall? " Zachary asked, his voice carrying the confusion he was seeing. Panthermon, witnessing this, also shook his head, not sure if he could believe what was going on either.

Getting a better view of the room, they discovered they were all in side some strange maze of staircases that went up, down and sideways.

The real question of course was, which one of them was sideways and which one was actually standing 'up' ?!

The plan had been simple enough really. Try to regroup with the others before whatever was lurking in this place picked them off one by one. At leas they were in two groups, Hyde and Zachery were one, with Degas and Yana the other. When Zach threatened Degas in case he did anything inappropriate with the women, Hyde shrugged. "Honestly, the guy would probably like it. He seems to have a thing for big, feline men." With a chuckle, the group began to proceed up the stairs.

And then learned that nothing was ever going to be simple in this place.

It was like they were inside some surrealist's painting. Stairs going everywhere, gravity being given the finger, and their wayward partners separated from them on s vertical surface. Hyde let out a sigh of frustration. Whoever designed this place had waaaaay too much time on their hands. "Well, we're not going to get to them just standing around. Let's get moving. These places have got to meet somewhere." As he began walking, another thought occurred to him. Once they reunited, how were they getting out of here?

Zach wasn't too keen on having Ari sent down there, telling her to save her strength to which the Gatomon herself just chuckled dismissively. She was able to stay in her armor form for the whole duration of this mission if she had to, higher levels like her Ultimate or Mega were the real challenge but even then she was slowly reaching a point where she'd be able to keep them up indefenitely too. However "O-okay...!", Yana would answer the gallant boy, mustering up her resolve to press forward even though separated from half of her team. Pressing forward, the sight before them would almost make Yana feel dizzy and even nauseated as she tried to figure out where she was meant to go... It was next to impossible to try and think about it, the only option was to go balls deep (proverbially speaking) and start walking, see where it lead them "Wow... Even in the Digital world you don't see something like this every day...", Ari commented, visibly impressed by the whole construction of teh strairway maze Eventually Yana turned back to her Digivice as she heard Zach calling her through it, looking around, she eventually spotted them and Hyde... Only they were upside down!! "Nevermind that how are you even walking upside down!?" As Yana reached for her digivice, it too rung; it was Zachary calling her, "Zach!!", she said, similing relieved, "Where are you?! Can you see the way up?!", she's ask, frantically, "Ari can Digivolve into Nefertimon, we get down there and pick you up!"

Degas  walked in front of Yana. He was surprised at the hall he saw next. Twisted and turned. It was like the Adams Family Mansion. He loved it it made him all giddy inside.

'Of course you do. his exasperated inner demon commented. He had always wondered if the gravity changed half way. As much as he would like to jump and see if he'd fall up he decided not to.

"I wouldn't Yana." If gravity changes half way it could be disorienting and if she stops on that line it may feel like being torn apart." Degas warned.

"I must say though this place couldn't be any more modern. In truth it would be wiser for us to sty in ace and let them work their way to us by following their path.....there is our main goal however. The question is should we waste time?" Degas said with a hum.

It was quite a pickle as the two groups were in opposing pulls of gravity. It wouldn't be so easy as space and gravity was screwed up in this chamber and the connecting halls. But in truth, a few passages led out of the room, which once they will find, will lead them further into the castle.

Sadly, the teams would have to go a ways before they could reunite on the same gravity plane. While Yana and Degas were on the bridge, connecting to another end of the room, they would find another set of stairs, a corridor and another opening, releasing them back into the same room. Though this time, THEY will be sideways upon the wall as well as they went through the archway.

Zachary and Nicholas would a bit worser off as they got to the end of their path, passed through another 'straight' corridor, only to emerge in another side of the room. They were more on the 'floor' of the room, but it was impossible to tell... but they were no longer alone.

In strange positions, the two would soon find three strange digimon. They were blue and white colored bats that had their wings snug around their bodies, as they stood on the tip-toes of their clawed feet, which resembled more like hooks. They had hooks on the tips of their wings as well as their tails. Their pointy ears twitched and they opened their eyes to their presence.

"HI!" the bats said in a cluster of chatter, and followed by giggles. They were Pipismon!

They seemed harmless at first, but a part of them appeared to be a bit... mischievous, and certainly not very helpful. Upon one of the two asking 'how do they get to their friends who are upside down', the bats would just laugh and say...

"What makes you think THEY are the ones upside down? HEHEHE!"

Whenever Yana and Degas would emerge, they too would see that Zachary and Nicholas were now on the ceiling, along with the bats where were merely hanging upside down as normal bats would. Even so, there was no way to tell if the bats were friend or foe...

(OOC: The dice pool now has been reduced from 1-20, to 1 - 17)

Zachary was baffled and felt sick to look at this place, as he grasped the rim of the platform to keep his balance. Panthermon looked to see their allies sideways. In the end, it was all a matter of perspective. What mattered now was for all of them at least to get on one plain of gravity so they could continue again as a group. 

With Degas suggestion, Panthermon let out a growl. "I agree. We could try to fly, but with gravity twisted around like this, our flying might not be a bright idea. If anything we might end up getting more lost and fall somewhere else. " Panthermon said, his eyes closed in reflection.

At that point, Zachary had an idea and looked towards Yana. He was going to shout, but then remembered his communicator and spoke to her through it. "Yana, try to leave a marker on the paths your taking. Clearly with this room being one big gravity maze, if we use markers we can tell who went where, and if we find one of your marks... we can follow it to wherever you are and vise versa." He explained.

Panthermon, liking the idea, nodded his head. "I'll leave a claw mark on the stone where we take a path. Just keep an eye out for it. It won't be hard to miss." the panther said.

With that, Zachary led the way as they went through another passage in the room. As they did Panthermon used his "SHADOW CLAW" attack on the stone .The black energy coating his claws easily sliced into the stone of the floor, allowing a clear indication of where they were going.

As they emerged however, now on a floor area of the room-- they met the bats. They appeared non-threatening at first glance but soon they squeaked their greetings at them. Taking out his digivice, Zachary read up on the data he had on them. "Huh... Pipismon. Champion level, data type digimon who use sound to navigate and fend off enemies. Their crazy sonic blaster destroys enemy senses, making them easy prey. They are Wind Guardian digimon." Zachary said, as Panthermon still growled, being on guard unless they were enemies.

Upon their greeting, Zachary was however foolish to ask : "Excuse me, can you tell us how to get back to our friends who are upside down in this room?"

However, that was only answered by a hilarious cackle and laugh from the bats, easily echoing off the room. "What made you think THEY ARE the ones upside down?" was their reply...

And it became clear, as the bats normally hung upside down-- why these appeared as if they were standing upright. Zachary sighed, and slumped his head and arms forward. "I hate this place..." Zachary groaned.

Zachary seemed to have the right idea, leaving markings for them all to follow. However, so far it hadn't proved very helpful, as they were no closer to reaching the others. Now they were somewhere else, and nowhere near Yana and Degas, who were still on the wall. Yeah, mazes like this were never easy, provided there was supposed to be an actual exit. People were trapped here after all. This all could just be a very, very confusing cage.

And they weren't alone either. They would be greeted by a pair of Pipismon, and judging by their confusing dialogue, were there to simply annoy the hell out of them. "Boss," Sable piped up, "I could digivolve into Rook Chessmon, bust the place open." Hyde thought about it for a brief second. "Nah, you'll bring the place down around us. Sucks too. Your strength could have been really useful." he glanced at the Pipismon, "Though maybe..." It was worth a shot to ask, "You two. How'd you guys get in here? And more importantly, how do you get out?" If these guys were minions, why would they be trapped in here?

Was there no end to this place? Yana knew the way to solve any labyrinth but this one clearly had tricks up its sleeve, shifting and changing as time went on. So, she would rather focus on meeting up with Zach and Hyde once again, and from then on they could think about finding their way out. She wasn't the kind of girl "Yeah... I wouldn't try that. If you fail its a long way down... Or, Uhm, up...", she'd comment with a confused, dizzly look in her eyes as for a brief moment she yet tried to figure that out, before shaking her head and frowning, "O-or, wherever...!!" Being inside a surrealist painting clearly did that to a person, Yana was hardly ever a great admirer of modern art which she seldom managed to understand. She tried, really, but it was easier when one was outside looking at the painting rather than INSIDE it trying to find her way around. "Modern huh...? More like modern art.", Ari would comment, earning a agreeing nod from Yana as they continued manouvering around to the best of their abilities. ZtFK1lrE1-17

"Which is why it is modern. No matter though. Let's do as your talking pocket says and mark our path as we move forward." Degas said smiling with humor.

He pats his pockets a moment and pulls out a pen. He draws a smiley face on the floor then starts walking. 'A smiley face really...' What a smile makes everyone's day.

After walking a ways they came back out into the same room. Degas looked back and saw specs in the distance their position was different but the over all result was the same. He bent down and drew another smiley face.

"It is going to be boring if all we have to do is walk around drawing smiley faces." Degas complained bending towards the edge.

"I wonder if I could Swing down underneath." Degas hummed and hanged half his body over to look at the underside of their path. The blood rushed to his head almost instantly as gravity contorted. He came back up and shook his head.

"Fun." He murmered with a chuckle. "If you don't mind a moment of discomfort we could change out route." He says pointing over the edge.
