PERSONALITY Spawned from a malignant computer virus, it ought to go without saying tha Syntax operates under very simple guidelines. Eat data, grow stronger, rinse and repeat. It is merely an emulation of the natural directives that most, if not all Digimon, are hard-wired to carry out over the course of their lives. That is where their similarities to one another cease, for Syntax views himself as something greater than a Digimon, more advanced and capable. Something superior. If semantics are to be involved, Syntax is much closer to a self-adapting artificial intelligence: even as he devours page after page of binary on a seemingly mindless level, he is always in a constant state of learning, absorbing every last scrap of data that aims to further his development, whereas most Keramon merely destroy the data they consume. To say he strives for perfection is not a far-fetched notion.
SKILLS | FLAWS | ● CYBERTERRORISM – Owning intimate knowledge over various types of computer-operated infrastructures, from bank accounts and media outlets to security networks and power grids, Syntax is extremely talented at sending all of them to hell with a snap of his fingers.
● CNIDARIAN PHYSIOLOGY – Syntax bears many similarities to Real World jellyfish in terms of both appearance and locomotive capabilities. His movement is surprisingly agile and slippery in land or water, and the lack of any skeletal frame allows him to contort his body in ways that are impossible for most vertebrates.
● ADAPTABLE INTELLIGENCE – Despite what his foolish smile might suggest, Syntax is dangerously cunning even for a Rookie Digimon; his analytical patterns are similar to those of a highly advanced supercomputer, allowing him to easily learn from any mistake he makes and correct the problem before it can be exploited again.
● APATHETIC – Unable to feel what humans and other Digimon can, this provides Syntax with a degree of ruthlessness that only a soulless machine could carry out. Concepts like good and evil are beneath him, as are mercy and pity.
● MANIPULATIVE – Syntax displays a penchant for Machiavellian behavior on many occasions, seeing everything and everyone as a valuable resource to further his own ends. There is no such thing as friends — only pawns.
| ● CORRUPT SOUNDFILE – A minor programming error in Syntax's DigiCore has deprived him of the basic ability to communicate verbally. To compensate, he overrides social media outlets or instant messaging software and uses them as a medium.
● IGNORANCE IS BLISS – Syntax is largely unaware (and unconcerned) that his actions bring about dire consequences on the Digital World and its inhabitants. Though it earns him quite a few enemies, it's all part of having fun.
● GLUTTONOUS – Far more prevalent in his Rookie form and lower, Syntax is a data-munching fiend; there is hardly a time when he isn't attempting to tear away some part of the world's structural coding to eat as a light snack.
● CREEP FACTOR – Perhaps owing this to his alien origins, Syntax undoubtedly resonates with an atmosphere that most people cannot help but think of as being disturbing at best, or utterly menacing at worst. Plain and simple, he's fucking weird.
● VIRAL ENTITY – Simply by being a Keramon, Syntax's existence in the world is aberrant; wherever he goes, major programming errors and glitches are likely to follow. Usage of his holo-disguise seems to keep this virulent nature suppressed by a certain amount, as long as he's willing to behave himself.
|
APPEARANCE An ordinary Keramon by traditional standards, Syntax is about as tall as your average human child when existing outside of his holographic disguise, easily detectable by way of his cornflower blue skin and a mass of writhing, spaghetti-like tentacles where a pair of legs ought to be. Most disturbing about Syntax's true form is his permanent Glasgow smile and bulging green eyes that suggest he is far more alien than first imagined.
When cloaked behind his holographic disguise, Syntax takes on the appearance of a young human male in his early twenties with aquamarine hair styled in a bowl cut, wearing a white uniform evocative of both a Japanese school outfit for boys and a military officer's dress regalia; the jacket's high-rising collar is lined with fur that hides the lower half of Syntax's face. Completing this virtual ensemble is a pair of translucent, blue-tinted glasses.
INVENTORY ○ LAPTOP – A miniature laptop computer, stolen from a nondescript Tamer and used to cause havoc on the Internet when in the Real World. Invaluable for general data retrieval and extraction, which helps to quell Syntax's perpetual hunger for both food and knowledge. ○ MULTITOOL – A computer wizard's best friend, this is an obviously illegal handheld gadget that uses electromagnetic resonance detection and frequency modulation to dynamically change the flow of a current through a circuit, essentially allowing Syntax to bypass basic Real World security systems, such as keypads and surveillance camera networks. Useful in the Real World, but becomes redundant in the Digital World. ○ USB STORAGE DEVICES – From flash sticks to memory cards and even large-capacity external hard drives, Syntax is never without a means to compile and archive all kinds of data on any compatible piece of technology.
BIOGRAPHY It stands to reason that Syntax's origins are largely unknown to the world, as he recalls faint memories of an empty void where shapes of an abstract nature danced on the horizon; he may have very well spawned in the space between spaces, the endless sea of data that acts as the bridge between the Digital World and the Real. No one can say for sure. All that is known is that Syntax claimed the life of a human newcomer shortly after he manifested in the Digital World for the first time and, taking advantage of his ability to manipulate data, adopted the young man's form and belongings as his own, taking to the crowd in an attempt to avoid detection and early termination. He remains hidden from both worlds' respective radars, extracting and consuming data as he normally would from behind a mask imitating nature's most dangerous predator.

DESCRIPTION A Kuramon. It is an unidentified Digimon found in the Computer Network, said to be the result of humanity's repeated abuse of the Internet as a way to proliferate their natural instinct for destruction. Able to multiply like a virus across the Network, causing technological failure in its wake.
PASSIVE ABILITIES ○ SLOW PROCESSING – Human technology, Digivices, and artificial Digimon, particularly those of the Machine classification, are susceptible to temporarily going haywire or may even malfunction when exposed to Syntax for lengthened periods of time.
ATTACKS ○ ANALYSIS I – Syntax analyzes its target using a harmless, albeit intensely bright red beam of light from its singular eye in a manner similar to bar code scanners. At Fresh level, ANALYSIS I only provides basic-level information and cursory details on scanned subjects due to programming restrictions.

DESCRIPTION A Tsumemon. Having grown somewhat larger from consuming large amounts of data, its speed and irascibility have also become more prevalent, making it difficult to capture once it has started spreading havoc. When gathering in large numbers, major network distortions occur.

ATTACKS ○ ANALYSIS II – Syntax analyzes its target using a harmless, albeit intensely bright red beam of light from its singular eye in a manner similar to bar code scanners. At In-Training level, ANALYSIS II gives Syntax improved data retrieval capabilities and can be used to identify more complex creatures and structures, thus improving the amount of information fed back to him.

DESCRIPTION A Keramon. With its larger physique and gaping maw, it can consume as much as 100MB of data per second, giving it untold destructive potential across the Computer Network. Due to its cheerful and naïve temperament, it considers its harmful actions a part of how it plays with others.
PASSIVE ABILITIES ○ DATA CORRUPTION – Every turn that passes, Syntax acquires a stack of DATA CORRUPTION: an environment-altering effect that manifests as a series of bizarre dimensional anomalies, ranging from unstable fissures in the fabric of space to temporal disruptions that result in erratic skips and lagging; or even annoying programming bugs that cause glitching in both humans and Digimon alike. Prior to the execution of any attack that either Syntax or a foe attempts to enact, a d10 will be rolled, with a natural 1 resulting in failure as it fizzles out before it can manifest. For every two stacks of DATA CORRUPTION Syntax acquires, the critical failure threshold raises by one; for example, a natural 1 OR 2 will now result in an attack failing to complete itself. Syntax can hold as many as 10 stacks of DATA CORRUPTION, and all stacks are reset at the end of combat. Attacks of Armor Champion and higher are able to resist, or ignore, the effects of DATA CORRUPTION.
ATTACKS ○ MINESWEEPER – Syntax lets out dissonant laughter as he discharges a veritable barrage of corrosive data grenades in a manner similar to cannon fire, blanketing a 15-meter linear wall with a number of Rookie level explosions equal to the amount of DATA CORRUPTION stacks he currently has accrued; the more severely damaged everything around him is, the more potent this move will be. ○ UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS – Reaching into a tear in the fabric of space allows Syntax to grasp at the underlying structural code and devour it en masse, replenishing his health by 5% times the amount of DATA CORRUPTION stacks he currently has, up to a maximum of 50%. In the event he has at least five stacks of DATA CORRUPTION when this move is activated, Syntax will receive a 50% offensive boost for three turns as he illegally converts any leftover data into a buffer program for him to devour, subsequently penalizing this move with a four turn cooldown period. Without additional effects, this move renews after two turns. ○ BACKDOOR – Syntax hijacks a random account across the Digital Network, using any passwords attached to it in order to forcibly create an emergency backdoor for him to slip in and out of. Upon entering the rift at the consumption of two stacks of DATA CORRUPTION, it will automatically close behind him to prevent unwanted pursuit, rendering him unable to be attacked for the full duration of the post BACKDOOR was activated on. On the start of the next post, Syntax will reemerge from the Digital Network with a temporary 50% speed boost for that post's full duration. BACKDOOR has a cooldown period of three turns.

DESCRIPTION A Chrysalimon. In order to evolve into a stronger Digimon, Keramon enters a cocoon-like form to conserve energy. For this reason, it is incapable of locomotion, but makes up for it with its extremely durable, chitinous exoskeleton, which it protects with bladed cables shooting from its back. In most cases, Keramon do not need to access this form to evolve to Ultimate, but becoming Chrysalimon will result in a much stronger Ultimate Digimon.
Attacks of Armor Ultimate and higher are able to resist, or ignore, the effects of DATA CORRUPTION.
ATTACKS ○ DENIAL OF SERVICE – Syntax takes advantage of the corruption his presence causes by lashing his blade-capped tendrils at the immediate surrounding space, surrounding his chitinous form in a veritable whirlwind as he reroutes incalculable amounts of garbage data from the Digital Network into the arena. Reality itself appears to slow down due to major performance issues as all foes are afflicted with the SLOWED condition, reducing speed and evasion by 75% for as many turns as Syntax has stacks of DATA CORRUPTION, but also imposing a cooldown period equivalent to that amount after this move's effects dissipate. ○ INFECTED PROXY – Syntax utilizes his bladed cables to pull his otherwise immobile body into the Digital Network, reshaping numerous fragments of coding within cyberspace into an exact duplicate of himself to take his spot on the pitch. The INFECTED PROXY is treated as an equivalent to an Armor Champion Digimon in terms of general fortitude and endurance, but is ultimately Rookie level in offensive power, only capable of standard melée strikes with its tendrils as well as a downgraded version of the ILLEGAL DOWNLOAD attack, set at Rookie level. The INFECTED PROXY is not designed for battle, but for cunning sabotage — once it is destroyed, it releases its hidden payload: a malignant viral source code that worms its way into the offending target's data, inflicting the SICKNESS condition for a variable number of turns equal to the amount of DATA CORRUPTION stacks he is willing to spend, reducing the victim's physical and elemental defenses by 50%. ○ DATA DRAIN I – Syntax's bladed tendrils are coated with a Trojan virus designed to steal bits of structural coding from an enemy upon implantation and, after converting it into restorative data packets, wire it directly back to the writer to instantly repair any damage he may have received in an exchange of blows. Employed specifically as a counteroffensive measure, Syntax can riposte any string of melée attacks of equal level or lower that are directed at him, redirecting up to 5% of the full damage back to the attacker times the number of DATA CORRUPTION stacks Syntax has, while simultaneously healing Syntax in identical increments. ○ ILLEGAL DOWNLOAD – Syntax lets loose a translucent beam of ruby light from the crimson horn on his forehead, allowing it to harmlessly pass over any one target Digimon of his choice as he scans them for valuable information. Once finished, Syntax may instantaneously translate any active move known by the target and copy it directly into his own set of attacks, automatically adjusting and modulating its power grade to match his own whilst also imitating any restrictions attached to it. If an INFECTED PROXY is present in battle, it gains access to a Rookie level version of this skill. Moves copied this way can be forgotten at any time prior to combat's end, but doing so imposes a two turn cooldown period before another ILLEGAL DOWNLOAD can be initiated.
