PERSONALITY In any group setting, big or small, Manaia speaks confidently and at a consistent pace. Everything she says sounds like an unquestionable truth, and never for a minute does she let herself sink into the background. And not only can she talk until the end of the world, Manaia expects her every word to be listened to and becomes visibly agitated if she isn’t; and even downright offended if people blatantly ignore or talk over her. Manaia is also a very honest person, and maybe a little too open too; even when talking to mere acquaintances or complete strangers, Manaia sees no problem in mentioning personal stuff that others’ would hesitate to, provided it’s relevant to the conversation of course. That said, Manaia is attentive enough to realise when she’s crossed a line, and may even feel embarrassed if it’s made clear that that’s how she should feel. When not surrounded by people, Manaia is usually either catching not-so-sneaky glimpses of her reflection or is completely absorbed in whatever activity/project she’s occupied with. Manaia refuses to be idle for long and can be quite judgemental of others who are, though this is one of the few kinds of opinions she keeps to herself. While she is useless as a liar, Manaia can and will hold her tongue if it means she can avoid a conflict she’d rather not have.
APPEARANCE In contrast to her own mother, Manaia is a small wisp of a girl and takes great pride in her feminine appearance. She rarely doesn’t wear a dress or skirt and always has her hair tied up perfectly (and, we can all agree, somewhat elaborately). Having been a fan of the colour green since she was very young has influenced Manaia on her preference for always wearing something green - even if it’s her hair! For the last year or so she’s been carefully dying it that colour - a very noticeable difference from her naturally black hair As for accessories, the only thing she wears on a regular basis is a plain, pink binid. Just as Manaia speaks with confidence, she also walks and holds herself up the same way; straight spine, shoulders back, chest out. It’s a joke among those who know her better that Manaia’s afraid of slouching even a little lest she appear even shorter than she is. Disappointingly, it is not green. BIOGRAPHY Manaia isn’t sure why her parents had three children. Sure, they love each other, and they love her and her siblings too - but they’ve always seemed to love work just a little bit more… So Manaia and her siblings were raised mostly by her live-in grandmother, and when she passed away Manaia’s older sister begrudgingly inherited the title of babysitter. They fought a lot before, and now they fought even more. Manaia usually threatened to run away, and she did - right to her best friend’s house. Aside from the first time, no one seemed to worry. Then one day Manaia and her sister had a bigger fight than usual, and instead of running to her friend’s house, Manaia ran away for good. It was accidental, though... mostly.
