What
You Stupid Or Somethin'?
Nikumo
A treasure hunt; a lovely distraction Nikumo had to admit in the grand scheme of things. When you are in a world full of Digital Monsters; sometimes you have to create your own fun. And that was what Nikumo was trying to do as she was walking down across the hallways of an abandoned cave mine; a flashlight in hand. A few Pipismon who had been roosting in the cavern ceilings were startled by said light; fleeing into cracks and crevices that nothing but them could squeeze into.
"Are we sure that the lead is right Nyx? That Cyclomon WAS kinda... senile." The girl would behind her, a short feline-like Digimon behind her; their bright green eyes illuminating in the dark. It was a strange lead in particular; a rumor that an elderly Cyclomon mentioned back in Tecton City. Stories told about a forgotten treasure that was left behind by a cult that once dwelled in these mines; but time has since caused the mines to be abandoned by nearly all life... at least civilized life.
"Who knows? All the more fun to learn that he is right... that is IF he was right." Nyx would comment; cheerfully trailing behind the girl. Eventually however; their efforts of wandering these caverns paid off. The tamer and Champion level both managed to reach what looked like a dead-end; though the cave walls were now lined with brick and mortar... and what looked like wiring. More interestingly was the fact that a pedestal rested at the end of this hallway; sitting atop it being a spherical object that resembled a Digiegg, though more ornamental. "Ooh, jackpot... I do believe that is a Digimental Nikumo! The old man was right!" Nyx would say ethusiastically; pleased to see their efforts pay off.
Nikumo stared at the object, actually a bit surprised that their efforts actually paid off... kinda? She was hoping admittingly more for bits or something, but a Digimental could prove useful The girl lifted the egg-like object off it's pedestal; tilting it around to see if it wasn't busted. Thankfully, it seemed fine mostly... though something caught her eye. Looking down at the pedestal; the girl noticed that there was a slot that resembled that of a Digivice... specifically a D-Power. "Yo, Nyx. Check this out."
The Meicoomon quickly climbed onto the girl's back, staring at the slot with eager anticipation. "... Interesting. Girl, you know what to do."
Nikumo certainly wasn't slow when it came to the Digimon's idea; having already reached into her pocket. Pulling out the black D-Power that has accompanied her for a large amount of her journey around the Digital World; she promptly put it into the slot without hesitation.
A clicking sound could be heard, the walls surrounding them suddenly beginning to glow dimly. Seemed harmless initially; but with the lights growing increasingly brighter, Nyx realized something was off here. "Nikumo, back off!" Nyx would quickly warn the girl; causing Nikumo to back off immediately from the quickly glowing lights.
In a matter of moments, the ruin walls were brightly lit up, illuminating the cave walls. Indeed, said ruins were lighting up in a pattern across it's walls; forming an ornate patter of a heart. This was not the only thing happening however, as Nikumo would find her that her hand would begin to itch, suddenly becoming more painful. To her utter shock and horror; the same heart-shaped pattern on the walls began to be etched onto her hand; fading as quick as it did.
"Love. So that's what this world deems you as." The Pilomon would idly mention, actually for once perplexed by this event. Love. How fitting of a crest for this girl she realized."How perplexing I admit. Of all the the things to be given, Love is a unique thing for someone like you."
Nikumo's eyes were wide open, her breathing becoming heavy. She stared at the Meicoomon with a look of sheer terror; her voice becoming strained. "N-Nyx... I want to know what the fuck is going on here."
"Things more important than you can imagine dear." Nyx would giggle slightly; though her amusement at the girl's panicking was quickly stopped as her tamer, suddenly being grabbed and lifted off the ground; squeezed tightly.
"I swear to god, if you don't tell me just WHAT is going on here, I will BREAK you in half." Nikumo would say with a stern tone in her voice; what little patience the girl waning in a matter moments.
The Meicoomon almost for once sneered at the girl; squinting mischeviously. "There is no need to get huffy dear. Your ignorance is just what blinds you from all this ignorance." She would say in a stern manner, dropping her usual tone of cheery impishness for once. "This world marks those it deems... unique with these crests. Love is just one of many masks it wears. Some wear Courage, others perhaps Kindness or Knowledge." The Meicoomon's features darkened.
"In the end however... it does not matter. No one is free of sin in this world. These so-called crests are just marks that delude others into thinking they are more righteous or more important than others." The Meicoomon would say, idly fiddling with her tail; her smug, cynical smile still plastered on her face. "Love is a curious trait that manifests in many forms. Romantic love or paternal love are just two shades of it. It could also be just an unconditional love towards life itself, whether your own or others."
Nyx sported a sharp, toothy grin towards her tamer; one that was unlike anything the tamer has seen before. This was a smile not of simple, mischevious glee... but one of spine-chilling malevolence. "But who am I to talk semantics here? Congratulations Nikumo Takara, for you are now a bearer of the crest of Love. Whether you want to be, or not." The so-called "holy beast" Digimon began to cackle, wiping some crocodile tears from her face. "We'll see how long that lasts dear. I don't need you cracking like an egg just yet. You are after all MUCH more fun being broken slowly."
Nikumo remained cold and silent, something that actually seemed to irk Nyx for once. The Meicoomon frowned slightly. "Tch. Come on. I thought you were fun for a human. I didn't decide to stay with you as your partner for nothing you know." The Champion level would comment, snickering to herself once more. "Come now. We have much to work on." She would say as she began to make her way out of the cave, knowing full well that her tamer would come out eventually.
With her partner gone, Nikumo finally seemed to let out a deep breath, sighing slightly. What started as a little treasure hunt for a day felt like it had suddenly decided to drag on for eons. Sitting down on the damp cave floor, with the Digimental in her lap; her Digivice in her spare hand. Somehow, she didn't feel any sense of accomplishment; just the empty feeling of dread. In one way, she wanted to just start crying... but she also at the same time didn't even had the will to get even a few tears out.
For a moment, something in her pocket began to glow brightly; causing the girl to turn her attention towards it. Digging into said pocket, Nikumo was a bit shocked to feel something that certainly did not belong. Pulling the glowing object, the girl was quick to inspect it; it appearing to be a card. It didn't take long for it to dim back down, its true shape being that of a strange, blue holographic card.
Staring at the card; Nikumo realized that there were times to ask questions... but for now, this was not one of them. Quickly scrambling to her feet; Nikumo got off the ground; rushing towards where her partner had decided to head off to.
