Remnants of the Past [Duo Crest Hunt]

The days had gone by with a breeze for both Anko and Rhaego. The duo found themselves at the Exalakes. A beautiful place that didn't look like it was touched by humans or digimon. 
Her partner, Rhaego the Veemon, was swimming carelessly in one of the five lakes. Anko was watching him, of course. Just in case something funny happened. The Digital World had never been a safe place, she knew that now. But there had been a time where Anko was young and naive, mesmerized by thinking it was a playground all for her. She lost her partner in the process, although he didn't seem to have changed after he came back by being reborn. 

"Anko? You shure you don't wanna shwim?" Rhaego asked, who was gently floating in the lake. The water felt amazing like it was cleansing his body. 
"Positive." Anko replied with a smile, taking her pouch off and leaning back in the grass. It was silly, really. Fourteen years old and still afraid to swim. If her sister could see her now, she would call Anko a big baby. 
The teen grimaced at the thought of her sister. Anko had been in the Digital World for quite some time now, since she was seven, to be exact. But never had she found her sister here. Not to mention the fact that she had never gone home after visiting her parents with Adam. They were probably worried sick, but then again-- they wouldn't recognize her anymore. Time is sped up in the Digital World, she'd probably be missing for about four years now. 

Anko sighed, before trying to focus on something else. Like.. The weather. The sun was shining, heating her body. Or maybe the sound of nature. The rustle of leaves that were wavering in the soft breeze.

This place was new. Filled with water too. Theos trotted along the waters edge. The flat surface was beautiful and the clouds and sky reflected off of it perfectly. He wished he could go swimming. Yet, he was on a mission. He wanted to find a digimental before his tamer got back. He thought it would be a great surprise. It would show just how capable he was. He stopped short of passing another lake. t its edge sat a human like figure. He approached and then realized it was a human. Way out here. He cocked his head and approached his hooves shuffling through the grass along the shore line. "Hello," He said smiling as he came closer and sat a few steps from her. "I'm Theos. Nice to meet'cha."  In his opinion all were safe to approach. Should they turn violent he could just leave. It never hurt trying to make friends though. In truth that was the reason he was good for his partner. He was way too shy. He looked out at the lake she was sitting beside. He noticed her partner and his tail just wagged. All tamers were good in his eyes because it showed their willingness to live side-by-side. "So what'cha doing way out here?" He asked. In truth a swim would be nice but considering he was mainly clay. Probably not a good idea.

Anko shut her eyes right after she stifled a yawn. She could get used to her life being this relaxed, although in the back of her head she knew this wouldn't last forever. Something was always bound to happen, but she tried to shake that awful thought away. She was here to relax, not to start worrying again. 

As she almost dozed off, a voice made her open her eyes. The voice was kind, perhaps a little bit curious, too. Anko sat up and found herself to be looking at a rock-like goat digimon. The teen smiled when he introduced himself as Theos. "Hello," She greeted. "nice to meet you too Theos, I'm Anko."

She noticed that he started looking at the lake, thus probably seeing Rhaego just enjoying the water. Anko giggled when Theos' tail wagged at the sight. He kind of reminded her of a puppy.
Now how was Anko supposed to get Rhaego to introduce himself? She knew how lazy he could get. 

When he asked what they were doing here, Anko shrugged. "Just taking a break, I suppose. I think it's safe to say things can get pretty hectic here so my partner and I want to relax a little."

It was strange seeing another digimon around, especially since this place seemed pretty empty when she got here. Apart from a few fresh digimon.
"So what brings you here?" She then asked, smiling at the rookie digimon.

"I came this way hoping to find a digimental to surprise my partner. He went back to the human world to work a bit and get us some supplies." Theos said smiling. "This is a great place to relax though. The sun is shining and it is so peaceful one could just fall asleep. I'm not that tired though. I'm too excited to try and digivolve." Theos said his tail wagging a mile a minute. "Your partner is enjoying themselves it seems. I bet the water is great. I'm clay like so I'd probably melt." Theos said laughing. He couldn't fly or swim which was a disappointment to him but it didn't matter. He could run for miles without stopping and he bet some digimon couldn't do that. "My partner and myself tend to stick to the Vale Highlands. It is nice out there too. It is a great place to play." He said smiling. "This is a great place too."

Anko nodded in understanding, supplies were heavily necessary. Although Anko could easily provide food and items for her and Rhaego, she never had any trouble getting around. "I see," she said with a smile, hoping that he would find it easier than she had. Both of her digimental hunts had gone horribly wrong. One with getting attacked by Numemon and the other resulting in Rhaego dying to Dagomon. She managed to prevent herself from shuddering at the memory. "I hope you find your digimental." Anko told Theos, it was truly a beautiful moment to see your digimon achieve new forms. Anko was incredibly proud of herself and Rhaego for coming this far in the Digital World.

Anko giggled when Theos said that Rhaego was enjoying himself, though she was surprised that Theos couldn't swim. He did look somewhat rock-like but.. made of clay? That was something new. "Rhaego always enjoys himself when he doesn't have to do anything. You see, he's a little bit lazy." She told Theos. "I'm not lazy!" The Veemon exclaimed, who was now sending a playful glare at his tamer. "I'm jusht shaving my energy."
"Really? 'shaving'?" Anko loved teasing her partner about his speaking disability. "MEAN!" The Veemon shouted, before diving underwater, earning another giggle from Anko. "But I understand, it's exciting to digivolve. Becoming stronger, pushing yourself to the limit for your friends. It's truly something wonderful."

"Ah, I've.. never really traveled. I usually stay in the East." Anko said, in all honesty. She didn't want to go to places that were unknown to her, imagine if someone would attack you?

"My partner is kind of shy about trying new things too. He isn't scared or anything but he likes having the facts first. We have traveled some but he likes the places we know a lot better." Theos said cocking his head slightly. "That's why he has me though. I make sure to keep him on his toes." Theos laughed. It was the truth too. He doesn't know how often his partner looks exasperated with him. It was at least daily though. "I've seen a lot of digivolving. It looks like so much fun. I can't evolve yet though. I know my tamer worries about it. He doesn't know what to do about raising a digimon so he is constantly worried he is doing something wrong." Theos chuckled as he spoke. "Honestly I couldn't ask for a better partner though." "Speaking of partners...." Theos looked out at the lake. "He's been down there a long time." He was starting to worry. Her partner wasn't a deep saver type.

Anko smiled a little when Theos said that his partner was shy in trying out new things too, perhaps they could become friends. "Looks like we got a lot in common then." Anko told Theos, his tamer really sound wonderful to be around. "I'd love to meet your partner." Anko added, curious to see who was lucky enough to be with Theos. The rookie was really kind and smart, unlike.. some digimon. Anko gazed at the lake, sure she was happy with Rhaego and all. And she wouldn't trade him for anything. But sometimes.. he was just so cocky and ignorant. It would make him an easy target.

"I have to admit, Rhaego has always been there for me. I can't imagine a life without him." She looked down for a moment, remembering the moment she lost him. It had truly broken her, and she thought she was beyond repair until Adam had found her and told her he wasn't gone. "I'm surprised to see so many digimon matching their tamer's opposite personality. It's slightly scary." She said in a joking manner, sort of trying to cheer herself up. She shouldn't dwell on the past.

"Sounds like I could give your partner some advice!" Anko said with a giggle as Theos said that his tamer was worried about his way of raising a digimon. "I mean I was like.. five? When I got Rhaego, and I think we've turned out quite alright." She wished she could tell that to Theos' partner right now, to assure him that nothing could go wrong. Well, tons of things could go wrong. But Anko didn't want to think about those possible situations.
"I get what you mean, I wouldn't trade Rhaego for anyone else."

When Theos began about Rhaego not resurfacing, Anko laughed nervously. Nahhhh... Rhaego wouldn't.. drown. right? He knew how to swim, why else would he be in the water?
"Umm.." She began, but she wasn't sure what to say from that moment on. As much as she tried to reassure herself that Rhaego was fine, there was this tiny voice of doubt that told her he wasn't.
She waited a few more seconds before panic truly started to kick in. Her heart rate started picking up, and she crawled to the edge of the lake-- in hope that she would see her partner.

The water was clear blue, but there was no sign of Rhaego anywhere beneath the surface.
Anko took out her digivice from under her shirt. "Rhaego, where are you?" She spoke to the digivice, hoping her partner would hear her through her digivice.
But her fear only grew when there was no response. She turned to Theos with a look of panic on her face. "W-what do I do? I-is he drowning? Digimon don't drown, right? They know how to swim?"

Theos was happy with her comments. In truth he was sure his partner would like to meet her as well. He was sure Dantelion would get along well with her. As panic set in he looked around the lake. Hoping he had just gotten out elsewhere. This wasn't good. "Well he knew how." Theos said shifting hoof to hoof nervously. Finally he gave a huff and hopped into the water. Instincts took over as he hit the water his hooves kicking out in a doggy paddle as he looked around. His body melded with the water slightly providing a murky hue around him. However it didn't seem like he was melting which was a good thing. He took a  breathe and tried diving. he didn't make it very far though as he floated back up to the surface. He sneezed the water out of his nose. Not the wisest idea jumping into a lake where one digimon had just disappeared. He suddenly wished his partner was here. He'd knew what to do. He always had a plan for something when things were available to him. "It seems I'm too light to go down and look." He whined as he stayed there swimming in place. His head looking every which way for a sign. He took another breathe to try again. He began floating back up like last time butt first. he tried kicking the water to go farther down. The water was mostly clear though so when he spots a little blue rock near the bottom he nearly growled in contempt at his body being too light. He surfaces with a loud gasp and sputters as water drips over his mouth. He shook his head and growled at the water. "I think I saw him. He's too far down though." Theos said. He whined gain looking down in the water.

Anko doubted that Rhaego would ever forget how to swim, as it is basically like riding a bike. Perhaps something happened down there, hitting a rock or something? Or maybe some digimon had intercepted him as he wanted to come back up?
Before she could say anything Theos jumped into the water, in a way, Anko was relieved that she didn't have to jump into the lake. Seeing as she was afraid of water.

For a second there, Anko thought that Theos might dissolve because his body was not made to go into the lake. However, he only seemed to blur the water a little, which was good, right?

Theos dove right under and Anko saw him paddle for a little until he came back up. The tamer bit her lip, this was bad. Really bad.
"M-maybe if uh.. you.. uh.." She stammered nervously, trying to think of something. But her mind was just a chaotic mess, her partner was drowning and she was afraid of the lake. How humiliating!
Theos took another shot at diving into the water, but it failed again as he came back up and told her that he thought he saw him. Not to mention the fact that he was far down.
Anko got to her feet and started pacing around, she was trying to think of something-- SOMETHING that would help Rhaego come back up. Digivolution? He probably wouldn't respond to that in this state, and they were probably too far away from each other.

Then she stopped pacing and stared at the lake. Rhaego was drowning, he was drowning and she was letting someone else solve her problems.
Anko then balled her fists and started sprinting at the lake. Without a single hint of hesitation, she jumped into the water. Rhaego needed her, and she wasn't going to let him down this time. She couldn't fail him. Not again.

She opened her eyes, desperately searching for that blue little dragon that somehow got himself into trouble again. Rhaego had been under water for a long time now, there was no doubt that he had probably lost conscious.
And then she finally saw him. His eyes were shut, and his foot seemed to be stuck, she just couldn't see what was holding him down.

Anko then started swimming towards him as fast as she could.
'Hang on..' she thought, as she was approaching her partner. 'stay with me, Rhaego..'
She could see Rhaego clearly now, and her hand already started reaching out for his. However, Anko now seemed to be running low on air, her chest starting to feel tight and about to burst.
'I'm here..' she thought, and finally grabbed his arm. She tried pulling him up, but it looked like some kind of digimental was holding him down.

Anko tried pulling at the object, but it was heavy as lead. It didn't even budge.
The longer she remained under water, the tighter her chest became. Oh man, what kind of lousy tamer would drown saving her partner who happened to be ALSO drowning!
'I am NOT leaving you down here!' Anko thought, giving Rhaego's arm another pull. And at that point, the floor of the lake gained a bright white color.
Rhaego's eyes snapped open and he stared right into Anko's eyes. As the glow disappeared, there was now a tag and a crest on the lake floor. The Veemon snatched it, and right as he did he was coated in a bright light.

The bright light broke, revealing a much different digimon than Veemon, nor any of his previous achieved evolutions.

"PAILDRAMON!"

Rhaego grabbed a hold of Anko, breaking loose of the digimental that was holding him down. Then, in a burst of speed, the ultimate level burst out of the lake, flying in the air and coughing up water along with Anko.

The two made it down to the solid ground and Rhaego fell on his back with Anko on top.

Theos watched her jump in. It was rather heartwarming to see the tamer risk her life. He swam in a circle above them then dived down watching as best he could through the rippling water. He floated back up again and just as he was about to dive back down he saw a white light. He was surprised and quickly looked round beneath him. He couldn't see anything though until the light faded. A dark shape broke the surface and went into the air. Its coughing making him look up. It had Anko in its arms and the new digimon had to be her partner. The light of digivolution. He smiled as he watched them go back to shore. He paddled along behind his gaze turning from them to the person standing beside them. Dantelion had arrived just in time to see the girl leap into the lake. Honestly he had no idea what was going on but Theos had to be nearby. He noticed him out in the middle of the lake. He was about to call out when the lake shined. Dantelions thoughts automatically went to the girl. He frown as he wondered what was happening down there. He opted for sitting his duffel bags down and unzipping one. She had dove in fully clothed. Honestly he would have taken time to undress to his underwear but something had to had been wrong. So there was no need for him to scold her about it. He watched them raise from the water. The ripples carrying Theos a little closer to shore. Much to his relief. Honestly he had no idea he could swim without melting. Being as pliable as he was. He met the large digimon as he landed. He motioned for him to put her down so he could wrap his black blanket around her form. What was done was done so now she should just dry off and get warm. The sun could probably handle most of that however. He turned to Theos who grinned sheepishly as he got out of the water and shook off. Dantelion just sighed at his overly friendly partner. "I'm Dantelion....Theos partner." He said. "Are you two all right?" he questioned a slight worried tone in his voice. "They could be better I'm sure." Theos said chuckling in relief. In truth he felt a little bad he couldn't have done anything. However something told him that that was okay. Because somehow it worked out and they were both alive. "I'm just glad you two are alive. That was really scary."

Rhaego was catching his breath along with Anko before the big ultimate turned to see another human beside him. The tamer motioned for him to put Anko down, and so he did. Usually, he'd be a little bit skeptical about handing off his tamer, but seeing how tired he was right now, he didn't want to get scolded at.
Anko coughed a few times as she got to her feet, looking up when someone wrapped a black blanket around her. She expected it to be Theos, but now she was staring up at a human man. Anko figured this must be Theos' tamer, whose name she did not know yet.
"Uh- hi," She spoke, clearing her throat as her voice was a little hoarse. "you must be Theos' tamer. Right?" She then asked, acting oblivious to the giant elephant in the room.

That elephant, obviously being Rhaego in his ultimate form.
It didn't take long before the Paildramon was coated in a bright light and he started to shrink down to his in-training level, DemiVeemon.
"Oh man.." the little blue dragon mumbled, before being picked up by Anko. She wanted really wanted to scold him right now, but that would probably look odd to Theos and his tamer, so she just postponed it for now. Rhaego looked up at her with a cheeky smile. "Sowwy." He said, in his usual baby voice.

"Nice to meet you Dantelion," Anko said, as she held onto the blanket with one hand and carrying Rhaego with the other. "My name is Anko, and this is my partner Rhaego." She wondered if she should tell Dantelion why she dove in that lake in the first place, but she figured that if he had any questions he was free to ask them. "We're fine I think. Besides, we had worse." Anko said with a little smile.
As Theos said that they could be better, Anko chuckled. "Well I suppose so, but.. I'm just glad Rhaego is okay." The DemiVeemon blushed slightly. "What were you doing down there anyway?" Anko then asked her partner, who widened his eyes and started pointing at the lake with his stubby arm. "I- I saw one of the digimentals! I twied taking it, but it wouldn't budge." He crossed his arms, as far as a Demiveemon could cross his arms. "Then I got stuck." He added with a pout.

Anko simply faked a smile, oh how she wanted to smack him on the head for doing such a reckless thing. "Anyhow, I'm glad to finally meet you. Theos here told me quite a few things about you." Her fake smile turned into a real one this time. "Thank you for the blanket, by the way."

Dantelion watched the pair a moment his arms crossed. He gave her a small smile as she introduced herself and her partner. Which turned to a look of annoyance as he looked to his partner at the mention of a digimental. Theos tail wagged and he grinned ear to ear. Exactly what he had been looking for. This had to be fate. She got to rescue her digimon who had become super big and they located a digimental while at it. "You won't let it go unless I try will you." Dantelion said with a sigh. "It never hurts to try." Theos replied. "I'm sure he said may things." Dantelion said breaking into a small smile. He was use to Theos antics by now. "It is a pleasure to meet you as well." "Come on lets try to get the egg." Theos said hopping around excitedly. His tail was going a mile a minute as usual. Dantelion gave him an annoyed look but sighed anyway. He was a softie at heart he guessed. He couldn't help but to wonder about the egg himself. "Excuse me a moment." He said. He patted Theos head then took off his shirt and pants. He kept on his black boxers as he dove into the lake. Swimming out a few meters he suddenly dived under. The water was surprisingly clearer than he thought it would be. As he reached the bottom his strong legs carrying him. He noticed a dull shine. It had to be the fore-mentioned egg. He reached out gripping it. His lungs were starting to burn at this point. He closed his eyes and began swimming back up. It shifted out of the lakes floor with little trouble. It also weighed less in the water allowing him to pull it along back to the surface. Theos paced long the lake side. He was eager to see if his tamer could do it. In all honesty he knew his partner could. Dantelion wasn't quick to believe in himself but Theos knew better. The moment he broke the surface Theos hopped happily. His partner began swimming back mainly with one arm. Theos knew what that meant without even asking. "He got it!" Theos hopped over to Anko and Rhaego. Giving them a playful headbutt of delight. "I can't wait to see what it does." Dantelion got out adjusting his boxers slightly. He held the egg up slightly looking at it. He held it by a wing like protrusion from the top. In all it was just a round orb on a flat base with a wing. He had no idea what the symbol on it meant. "Fate." Theos breathed. "I knew it. I knew it was fate. I guess I came here for a reason." Theos said hopping around. Dantelion sighed at his over excitable partner. He set the egg down and fished his digivice out of his pants. He scanned the egg in like he had seen Adam do. "I wanna see what it does please." Theos said threatening to topple Dantelion as he ran around him. "Give me a moment will you." Dantelion said placing his shirt and pants back on. The sun had dried him a little. Though his clothes did get damp. He didn't feel right remaining in his skinny's in front of a lady though. "Alright go for it." Dantelion said letting his digivice glow then heading towards Anko to sit beside her. "Armor Digivolve tooo...." Theos said as light enveloped him. "Maildramon" He called out instinctively. He then began hopping around excitedly. Craning his neck to see his own body and even chasing his long tail. His weight causing the earth to shake a bit. "He deserves it." Dantelion said chuckling as he watched Theos. "Feeling any better now that you've rested a bit." Dantelion asked turning to Anko. It took a lot to ignore the giant prancing metal....dinosaur thing. "I got wings too. I bet I can fly." Theos whooped and took to the skies. He wasn't the most graceful but that didn't matter. He flew in circles above them getting use to the feeling of his body floating.
