HAVEN'T YOU HEARD WHAT BECOMES OF CURIOUS MINDS?
“This it is…” Leyton’s voice cracked as he looked up at the looming mountain, there was no doubt that this was where he met Gokuwmon’s spirit, he remembered the day like it was yesterday; he was only a few months fresh into the Digital world, he hadn’t known much about spirits apart from what Andrea taught him, and at the time he was on the hunt for a little more strength, a bit more power.
The white hair looked up at the mountain, eyes gleaming with hunger, a restless fire in his belly that could only be tamed by the strength he craved. He was merely following a dream, a literal dream that told him to search the mountains. Leyton had no clue what this dream meant or if it was simply just that an idea, a work of fiction designed by his brain and unconscious mind to stimulate him overnight. At this point it didn’t matter what it was, he felt something beckoning him to the Sigma mountain scape and he was going to find it.
Wasting little time he tread his way up the mountainside, luckily for him, there was a path cemented up the mountain's slope, where it went he didn’t know, other than the fact that it would, of course, be to the mountain’s summit, what was up there he had no idea. Maybe there was gold? Maybe his Digimon partner? Well, that would make little sense as he was a spirit wielder after all, though stranger has probably happened on this plain.
His feet tapped along the cement path, legs quickly becoming worn down from the extensive exercise, his eyes narrowed hopelessly, he felt like an idiot for coming this entire way for what seemed like nothing, he may have been tired but whatever was calling him would HAVE to be worth it so without any further thought he continued upward.
After a few more hours of traveling, roughly half a day, Leyton had finally seen the summit, or at least what he had hoped was the summit, upon reaching the top he wasn’t greeted by little more than an empty flat, there was nothing here. “Seriously?” he growled stomping his foot, embarrassment stinging across his face.
“What the problem traveler?” A voice interrupted his flustered sulking, it was an Ogremon, standing at least a foot taller than Leyton.
“Oh nothing, I just thought there would be something up here.., Well something worthwhile,” Leyton replied, face still hot with a blush.
“Well there is something up here, me, and I just so happen to run the toll booth, so unless you want to be sent barreling back down the mountain I suggest you pay up human, or better yet give me your Digivice.” the Ogre digimon extended a bright green hand to the young man, expecting to be compensated.
“Well I can’t pay you now, but I can-” Leyton went running back down the mountain path as fast as he could despite his legs being severely punished from his hike up the mountain, “What sort of jerk sits on a mountain all day demanding tolls?” he thought to himself, still running as fast as he could from the green behemoth.
Frighteningly enough the Ogremon kept on Leyton tail, the bone club raised over his head. “Get back here and pay up!” it called, swinging it’s club rampantly.
The white hair felt himself trip, going face first into the ground, though luckily he managed to support himself from falling completely down the mountain path by gripping a nearby tree branch. Swinging into the forest that concealed the road Leyton continued running, and running his chest tightening eyes watery, he turned to see if his assailant was still beside him and to his joy it wasn’t, the Ogre must have gotten bored of the chase. “Finally, I can-” he ran into something, his body bouncing off of a foreign object.
He fell back, onto his rear, “Youch!” he called out looking up at whatever he ran into. It was a statue, of a man? No, a monkey on its knees one arm concealing a staff the other an open palm. “What the heck?” Leyton studied the statue, there was something eerie about it, but he couldn’t help but reach out to its open palm. Frigid fingertips, pressed against the statue's hand, The material felt warm, and almost like he was touching another person. Not too soon after he made contact, his Digivice would glow, a white light emitting from it.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out his white device, looking at the screen, there was a totem on the screen, dressed similarly to the statue. “Hello human, we finally meet.” a voice echoed in his mind.
“Who are you?” he replied talking as if he was speaking to a sensible person.
“I am Gokuwmon, your spirit; I’ve been waiting a very long time for this moment. The moment in which our spirits merge giving you my strength.”
Leyton was skeptical at first, narrowing his eyes at the device, “Now how will you-” he felt a surge of energy flow through him, his hand still on the statue, he quickly yanked it away. Looking down at his hands he clenched his fist together. “So that’s how…” he trailed off standing back up and walking back to the mountain path.
“Almost like yesterday.” he laughed, turning his back to the mountain, heading home, while it was fun to go down memory lane, he honestly didn’t want to continue reminiscing.
