Ice clinked the sides of Katelyn's glass as she swished her drink lazily in circles with the very tips of her fingers. The air hung thick with cigar and cigarette smokes, blending sharp with flat smells - sweat and curses flying in the air; You could say she stuck out like a sore thumb. She was relatively dainty and she didn't belong in a place like this, especially in terms of her outward appearance - but, mostly because she got in with a fake ID (being 19, of course). Kat took a small sip of her beverage, scanning her surroundings through lidded eyes - looking through her surroundings. She slid her empty drink down the counter and another was slid back, and so the cycle would continue through the night, but for now she was only on number 2 - and down it went.

Taking the rest of the night off from doing his usual side work, he leaned back in his seat as he watched the flashing lights of a police car roll by in quick pursuit.  The siren howled through the air, but gave him a strange calm because he knew they were not howling for him.  He knew his partner kept her distance when he went into places like this.  Stirring the ice left in his drink, he got up and began walking towards the bar.  Finding someone who seemed a bit interesting, he made his way over to an empty seat near her.  He set the emptied glass with ice on the bar, closer towards the bar tender.


"Kinda a busy night, don't ya think?" he asked, looking at her as he took a seat near her. He was wearing his usual casual yet sort of dressed up attire, but he never wore a tie.  He hated how they made it feel like he was choking with it being around his neck.

The girl raised her head from her half finished drink. She wasn't usually one to speak with people on first name basis that she just met, but she was a little bit buzzed which made her spines loosen up. "I guess so." Katelyn said back, resting her elbows on the bar. "But isn't it always a busy night for us sinners?" Kat said with a small grin, leaning on her elbows. "Katelyn." She spoke, looking from the stranger to the bartender - waving him down for a bloody mary. "You?" She asked her next question, turning back to look at him.

Hearing her remark about sinners made him grin, he couldn't help but add to it.  "Sinners are the busiest ones.  Never resting, always making a plan," he said as he motioned for the dark rum, that was a dark as a sea of twilight.  With his drink refilled, he played with the rim of the glass with his fingers, as he heard her introduce herself.  Turning to face her, he offered a friendly hand to her.  "I'm Leon," he replied to her before adding on to it, "It's certainly a pleasure to meet you, Katelyn."  His words were sincere, as he found someone interesting in a place he tended to frequent and this was a new face to him.  

"Maybe later we can exchange tales of our sins," he said in a lighter tone.  He knew all to well the sins he had racked up himself, but he was curious as to what made this young woman a sinner.  Could she be just as guilty as he was, he wondered.

Katelyn shook his much larger hand with a genuine smile of her own. Alcoholism was one of the only things that could make her truly loosen up. "Busy, true. Isn't busy work the least desired?" She asked him, taking a small sip of her mary. "Nice meeting you too." Kat took a long pause, clearly deep in thought, until she was addressed again. "Exchange our sins?" She asked him rhetorically, letting out an almost sigh and a chuckle. Clearly having some fond - or not so fond - memories at that though. "My sins are ugly. Very ugly. Can you say the same?" She asked him, now extremely curious. She cocked her head and rested it against her palm, hair falling from her soldier onto the table. All eyes were on this stranger now. He was delightful.

Trying to stifle a smile, he took a drink of his rum before setting the glass back down.  "I'm pretty sure if I were to let them catch up to me, I'd be executed on the spot.  If not, then at least tortured," he said, giving himself a reassuring nod at the thought. He glanced at her, thinking it over.  "It's especially hard when the sins tie into your line of work," he said, before drinking his rum down to half of the glass, rattling the ice in it.  "I've been called a lot of things, but best to remain deaf to that.  As long as I can keep myself alive and make a decent living, then maybe it's the path that best fits me," he said, almost seeming quizzical about the thought and contradictions with his own way.


Lifting his glass slightly, "A friend of mine used to say: 'To fill of the milk of human kindness is to win the maiden o' fair to thee, yet foul demons desire for more than yer petty coin'.  Not sure what he meant by that then, but I think I'm starting to now," he said as if giving a small toast.

"Would you rather be executed," She began, taking another drink. "Or rejected by God?" Katelyn modded understandingly as he went on about his line of work - she couldn't completely say she understood this. It was clear their practices were of a different breed. "What's your blood, hm? What sets you apart from the rest of us ugly castaways?" She asked, a small slur in her tone. The conversation was continuing to peak her interest with each passing word, metaphor, and phrase. Kat toasted back to him with her now empty glass - some toast - before sliding it back to the bartender.

He mulled the thought over for a moment before he gave himself a reassuring nod.  "Death or to be denied, huh?" he broke the question down to its most simple elements as he uttered it himself.  "I suppose I'd have no regrets either way.  I don't think there is a God that would allow the things I've seen.  And if they do exist, then humans must be some sort of sick joke to them.  Either that or we're a plague upon the world.  If I should die, I'd rather die with what honor I have left," he said and suddenly paused when a thought struck him, thinking back to his partner and how they came to meet.  It was all so strange, that maybe it was some sort of fate.  It shook him deep down his bones as he stared out to space before quickly coming back.  Feeling that smile on his face, his tongue feeling slightly numb from the alcohol. 

"Then again, maybe some answers are just out of reach, but still obtainable.  Just have to look hard enough for it.  Maybe there could be something out there controlling the webs of fate.  Never know until you find it," he said as he gave a small chuckle at the thought of how the world seemed to have opened up ways that would normally seem impossible.  Even the things he's seen since him and Rias began joining up as a team.

"How about you?  I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.  Are we truly the parasite or can we truly determine our own fate for ourselves?" he asked Katelyn as he looked over at her.

Katelyn absorbed every word he spoke, deeply involved in this conversation; one so out of place in such a seedy bar. "I guess I haven't given it too much thought. Life is meaningless, after all." She said, crossing her legs. "If there were a god, it would make sense to have all the bullshit in the world there is today. Something about light needing darkness, you've heard what I'm getting at. Doesn't matter though, you don't you think he would have smite us already?" She said with an amused tone. "I couldn't say we're a parasite, so much as a..." She thought of the right word, playing with her glass. "necesssary evil. yeah. That's it." She said, looking a bit pleased with herself. "Do you really think this is the conversation for a dirty bar? We could always get out of her." She suggested with a slur to her tone, leaning herself back against the heels of her chair.

"Necessary evil, huh?" he mulled it over and had to admit, it certainly fit.  "One cannot have creation without destruction," he said, agreeing with her.  Pulling out some money to pay for the drinks, he placed it on the bar, along with a bit extra to go into the tip glass.  He thought over the offer to leave the bar to talk a bit more, deciding to go with it.  "Alright, Katelyn.  I'm interested.  Where would you like to go?" he asked as he felt his phone vibrate.  Pulling it out to check, he read the message before sliding it off the screen and placing it back into his pocket. "Sorry about that.  Just was notified that I was paid," he got off the seat and offered Katelyn a hand if she would accept it was up to her. 

The bar was certainly thick with smoke, almost like a rolling fog that stank of burning tobacco, sweat, and alcohol.  "I'm sure that'll be enough to cover the tabs," he said, giving her a bit of reassurance.  "If it's not, then he'll bill me the next time I come in."

Katelyn grabbed his hand and slid out of the chair. She stumbled slightly, the intoxication hitting her a bit more now that she was upright - she was kind of a light weight. "No idea. I'm not one to make decisions like that, so I'm leaving that one up to you." Kat said, adjusting herself accordingly and regaining herself from a teetering composure. "I'll pay you back." She promised, making her way with him towards the door. "Are you sure you don't have anywhere to be?" She inquired, pushing the door to the bar open with a hip bump that sent her stumbling a bit into the alleyway.

"No worries," he assured her as they made their way out of the bar.  Seeing her almost fall out, he reached out quick and caught her by her hip.  Knowing this was the best option to catch her from tripped without causing any sort of harm.  Helping her steady herself a bit, he gave a small laugh.  "Alright.  How about some place where you can sit and regain yourself a bit?  Don't want you wandering about getting yourself into some sort of trouble now," he helped to support her weight so she wouldn't stumble so much now.  "Besides, I don't really have any family, I work for myself, and I don't really have anyone waiting for me to get back.  My partner is probably back at the office now, anyhow." 

He walked with her down along the alleyway, trying to make sure she didn't fall over.  He was rather good at holding his alcohol, but the numbness was still there.  He knew that he was at his limit for now and probably shouldn't drink anymore. For now, he was debating between finding a place to sit for them, hitting a diner, or maybe going by the office.  "You feel up to another drink or something to eat?  We can swing by my office, since it's open whenever I say it is," he said, throwing that out there as an option.  He figured it's a place they can talk without being bothered and that maybe she wanted to keep a low profile.

Her feet staggered a bit still before she finally balanced herself - with his help. It probably wasn't a great idea if she drank more. Kat couldn't really hold her alcohol. "I'd say something to eat would be a good idea but.." She held her stomach. "I'd probably throw up. Not to be gross." Katelyn messily tied her hair up, "What is there to do at an office anyway? Sounds pretty boring. What are you, an accountant?" Her words followed with a small laugh. "An accountant with no family and a dark past. Sounds like a bad soap opera." Then again, an accountant probably wouldn't be working for himself. Katelyn wasn't processing things too well right now, apparently.

He gave a small chuckle as they kept walking.  "Well, I tend to refer to my work as being... an independent rogue," he said, giving her some sort of an answer.  After taking a moment, he mentally figured the path to his office, going to take a left after they reached the end of the alley.  "I can get you some water and I can cook something that could be fairly light on your stomach.  I'm no chef, but I manage to get by.  That and water might do you some good.  I think I need some myself," he said as he almost lost his footing, but managed to catch himself.

"Besides, I think it's a safe place to talk.  I'm really interested in what you have to talk about.  And for the record, I used to be a soldier.  But that was a lifetime ago," he said, having some regret in his voice as they kept walking.  "What about you?  What kind of business are you into?" he asked, curious about this new friend he was taking to the office.  "We may have our secrets, but the world doesn't let you live on secrets alone.  Gotta have a way to pay for what you need.  Either that or find a way to take it for yourself."

"An independent rogue, huh? And am I walking into some kind of dangerous situation here?" She had asked him rhetorically with a bit of humor in her voice. "That sounds pretty nice. A comfy couch with decent homemade food." Kat mulled it over - if she really wanted to open up to this guy about herself, her past, things of that nature. "Yeah? You sound like you'll have some interesting stories yourself. If they're too mortifying to bring up, though, I understand. You won't have to push yourself to tell me things. We just met, after all." She advised, peering up from watching her footing to watching a dimly lit door come into view. "Well, isn't this shady."
