DIGIVOLUTION
Here at Digimon: Exodus, we use a post-based system to determine what level your Digimon can Digivolve to. We find this is best due to the fact that most Digimon level up based upon experience and through bonding with their Tamer (or by finding themselves if they are a lone Digimon), and also find that it will provide the easiest and most enjoyable experience for you as a roleplayer.
It should be noted that some different types of Digimon digivolve differently, and Tamer-owned Digimon can never perform the process when they are out of range of their Tamer.
The following are the different Digivolution types.
Digivolution: This is the standard digivolution, with no benefits or drawbacks. With regular Digivolution, a Digimon changes to a more powerful form - the following power levels are in order of weakest to strongest:
Spirit Digivolution: A type of digivolution exclusive to Spirit Wielders, allowing what would ordinarily be a human take on the form of a Digimon. Spirit Digivolution is done through the use of absorbed spirits using the D-Tector Digivice, it functionally being the same as normal Digivolution.
The following levels are gained normally, with no additional quests or purchases.
The following levels require additional quests beyond just attaining the correct post level.
Ultimate must be quested for: a 500 word solo post, wherein you attain a Crest (D-1/IC), Golden Digiegg (D-3), your B-Spirit (D-Tector), or a Blue Card (D-Power). To begin this quest, you must first work towards clearing your first torment given to you at character creation. This is not something that can be done in one post, and must happen over time, with character development. Finally, during the quest, your character completes a mission in which they overcome their torment. See the torments page for more information.
Mega must be quested for in a similar manner, wherein you attain a Tag (D-1/IC), Divine Digiegg (D-3), your F-Spirit (D-Tector), or a Red Card (D-Power). At this point they will have worked toward conquering their second torment, and will attempt to clear it entirely during the Mega quest.
Ultra must be quested for in the same way as Mega- however, this challenge is much, much, much more difficult. Upon successfully completing your Ultra quest, your character will become Ascended(D-1/IC), or will receive a Transcended Digiegg (D-3), your T-Spirit (D-Tector), or a Biomerge (D-Power). Ultra quests are especially lethal, and may result in character death if failed.
Aside from the standard Digivolution levels, there are also a number of special levels that can be attained through purchases and other means.
Armor Digivolution: Armor Digivolution allows you to reach pseudo-Champion and Ultimate stages before unlocking the true stages themselves whilst being weaker than their true counterparts.
To unlock Armor Digivolution, you must have a Digimental Scanner and perform solo quests called Digimental Hunts to unlock the Digimental for each form when you've reached the appropriate level. These Digimental Hunts must be solo threads of at least 500 words wherein you discover a Digimental of a virtue or trait your character has preferably recently discovered in themselves, in addition to reaching the listed post level.
DNA Digivolution: DNA Digivolution is a trick that requires two or more partners to pull off, but one that can end up being immensely beneficial, especially to those who are at a lower level. DNA Digivolution requires another member of the site to fuse with to obtain, in addition to you both having the listed post level. Through DNA Digivolution, two or more members can combine their Digimon to create a single powerful one - a margin more powerful than what they would be able to achieve alone.
Twin Tamers and Twin Solo Digimon follow this rule differently. They are only able to DNA Digivolve with another character or member of the site when they reach the "DNA Mega/Ultra" post level. In order to DNA Digivolve with their two twin Digimon, they must reach the standard Mega or Ultra levels at 600 and 1000 posts.
Dark Digivolution: Simply put, Dark Digivolution is a more morbid form of standard Digivolution. It is something only capable of being done by those with troubled or below sanity, and will be locked if sanity is higher. Dark Digimon receive a boost in OFF/SPC, but will be sent into a berserked state. They will be very prone to attacking nearly anything; their own allies and even tamers included. It also mentally and physically damages the user, especially when used frequently over time.
This evolution ends after five posts and cannot be slide evolved from - though you can go from one dark form to another, Dark Digivolving while already in this state does not increase the duration. For more information on Dark Digivolution, look in the Necroshopolis in Necropolis, in the Dark Area.
Biomerge Digivolution: Replaces Ultra Digivolution for those with a D-Power. A Biomerge Digivolution is the process of the Tamer merging with their Digimon to create one, and powerful, united fighting machine.
Alternate Digivolution: As many whom have played any games in the Digimon series would know, Digimon often can Digivolve into many different forms. This can happen here on Exodus, too! However, to access these additional forms, you must pay for them in the Digivice Upgrade shop. You are not restricted to how many you can have; as long as you can afford them.
Level Fluidity: For Spirit Users, we understand that there are very few beast-looking Ultimates that are viable, sometimes none, for a Spirit line when a qualifier for a B-Hybrid is typically that it looks, in some sense, beastly. This is why we are prepared to allow Champion as a B-Hybrid, or Ultimate Digimon as an H-Hybrid.
Additionally, we realize that there are some Digimon who are not classified by level: for example, the original Hybrids from Frontier, and many of the Digimon introduced in Xros Wars/Digimon Fusion, and some others dotted around. These often have, even though registered as being "None", some kind of level you can probably figure out from their image/power level -- for instance, Dorbickmon is probably not a Rookie, and we can safely assume that Strabimon and Flamemon are not going to be Megas, right? If you're really confused about where unleveled Digimon will fit: please ask staff, and we'll help you with making the call!
As a tangent/FAQ for you guys: most armor types are Rookie or Champion, with the exception of Magnamon and Rapidmon, who are likely Armor Ultimates.
Generally, Tamers can't start using Mega-Levels in place of Ultimates or Champions, or vice versa. Again, in specific cases, such as with Sistermon Noir as a twin (to name a recent one) we may allow a demotion or promotion, but typically, unfortunately you're just gonna have to find one of the right level; sorry, guys, but there's a level system in place for a reason!
