This was such an exciting place to be, not only was it home to a catastrophe, and possibly Mr. Crow, but it was a beach too! And what does a beach have? Water! Leyton licked his chapped lips, it sure was hot today, the only thing keeping him cool for the moment was a light breeze that passed by ever so often. The phenomenal one was sitting on top of a parked car, just off of the coast of the beach, it wasn’t his car, by any means, hell he was certain it was abandoned, so why not take a seat? His attire for the day was simple; a pair of shorts ,a tank top, and sandals, yep today he was keeping it cool. Sadly for him this was another day when his beloved cyclops had ran off on him leaving him alone for the day. “Hm, hot today.”

IN WHICH STRAUBEN IS REALLY SICK OF SEEING LEYTON

As Jo and her wolfish partner ambled through Triton City, Strauben spoke to her in a low voice, explaining the current powers-that-be. "The Olympos XII used to rule here," he explained conspiratorially, and before Jo could ask who the Olympos whatever were, continued, "a bunch of self-righteous bastards. Strong, though. Not strong enough. Now Shin-Sekai's in charge. Gotta keep up to date on politics, Smith. You wanna keep on the winning side."

Jo made a soft noise of assent, though she was struggling to parse this information. A civil war in the Digital World? A rogue faction seeking to... what... liberate cities from the control of the Olympos XII? Maybe she should do a little research, find out who these Olympos and Shin-Sekai were, without Strauben's bias.

Strauben led them down the boardwalk alongside the beach, indicating several places of note as he did so, but his lecture was quickly derailed when Jo spied, yet again, a familiar figure in the distance...

"Not a-fucking-gain," the wolf sprite groaned out loud. "Not today, Smith, don't make me deal with this asshole today."

But Jo wasn't listening. Beaming, she grabbed Strauben's hand — paw? claw? — and led him quickly toward the lounging man, where he preched on top of an abandoned car. "Funny seeing you here," she said when she was within earshot of Leyton. She smiled sheepishly at him. "Do you have a twin? Triplets? It, uh, seems like you're everywhere."

I AM NOT A BAD MAN even though i do bad things Leyton heard a familiar voice call his name, why it was teh voice of one of his favorite people, Jo Jo. “Ey!” he greeted the duo waving from atop his automobile throne. He loved seeing Jo around, though it was strange they kept finding him, almost like destiny wanted them to meet. Now that he thought about it Jo was pretty strong for a newby Tamer, Strauben was a bit of a thorn, but none the less he was little more than a single thorn on a beautiful rose. “Hey Jo, what do ya know?” he joked, jumping off of the car, “And nope, no brothers, I’m just always on the move.” Maybe she was material to join Ringbound, yeaaaah Ringbound, and then she’d move to Triton city too and they can hang out all fo the time! He mischievously grinned, rubbing his hands together… However it would take cunning to get Strauben to join the ring. Casually (Forcibly) taking off his rind, Leyton “Dropped” it on the ground, “Whoops! My ring!” bending over to get it he accidentally kicked it to the feet of the young lady before him. “Oh no! Jo could you pick my ring up please, I need it because it suuuure helped me get stronger.” looking up at the girl he then paused for a moment waiting for her to pick it up.

IN WHICH STRAUBEN IS REALLY SICK OF SEEING LEYTON

Jo was something of a duckling, quickly imprinting on the first person to show her kindness. And while Leyton's first treatment of her hadn't been kind, he'd quickly made up for it, even if she still found his mood swings bizarre and a little unnerving. Still, he would never hurt her, she was sure. She was very good at reading people. (Spoiler: Jo was not good at reading people. She only thought she was. Strauben, however, could sense even an egg thinking about going bad.)

"I'm skeptical," Jo teased. "Maybe you have a clone." She stopped in front of Leyton as he swung off of the abandoned car — a strange but definitely not unusual sight. There were a lot of relics from the Real World, lost and gathering rust in this unfamiliar Digital World, and their incongruous appearance was both a little soothing and rather distressing.

Jo looked down at the fallen ring, amused and confused by Leyton's antics. "W-what trick are you pulling now?" she wondered out loud but hesitated only momentarily before stooping down to retrieve the jewelry. She turned it in her hands, examining it: a plain silver band with a single, clear gem at its apex. 

Strauben eyed the ring and then Leyton suspiciously. He didn't like the smell of the thing — like old blood and iron — but he didn't stop Jo from plucking it from its nest in the sand.

"It's pretty," Jo said sheepishly after staring at it for a couple seconds too long. She offered it back to Leyton, nestled in the palm of her small hand. "You said, um, that it makes you stronger? Is it some kind of... catalyst?"

He cared for the young woman and Ringbound would open up a world of opportunities for her, like it did him. He wasn’t one to take to strangers quickly, in fact the last two people he met, Edward and AJ, he tried to fight them both. Jo was different from those two, she had her share growing room but her potential was sky high. She was intelligent and her partner would follow her to war if need be she was more than perfect for the Ring. He was naive enough to even call her his best friend in a sense, and he only wanted the best for her. “No trick,” he waved his hands with a sincere smile and pointed at the ring, “Yep, it’s quite a piece of jewelry.” she was taking the bait, but would it last. He looked at her hand as she offered the Ringback, “Uh, why don’t you try it on?” he looked down at his ring finger, damn thing raked his finger when he was taking it off. He placed his wounded hand in his pocket, “Hey yeah, you’d make it look even prettier.” he complimented with a sly smirk. “And yes, it does make me stronger, when I Digivolve into my other forms I get a heck of boost, well with that and…” he held up an arm to the dup, it would begin to glow a bright purple, and soon an obsidian would form around his upper and forearm and hand. “This is what’ll give you a real power boost.”

Jo rolled her eyes at Leyton's flattery. Well, slipping the ring onto her finger, just for a moment, just to humor him, wouldn't hurt. She compared it to her ring finger and then chose her index finger instead; her fingers were much slimmer than Leyton's. The silver band fit over her knuckle and sat snugly, a perfect fit as can be. It's like Sisterhood of the Traveling Ring, she thought in amusement, extending her hand to admire the jewelry. 

What Leyton proceeded to conjure was much more worthy of admiration, though, and quickly drew her attention. An obsidian gauntlet materialized around his fist and down his arm, gleaming in the seaside sunlight. Strauben let out a low whistle. "I can imagine," she agreed.

"Nice toys, King Kong," Strauben offered, eyeing the gauntlet in obvious interest. "What's this one do? Looks like a helluva punch."

I AM NOT A BAD MAN even though i do bad things And they were all but his now, they seemed impressed by the two items but he was starting to get excited about having her in the group. “You know Jo, you could keep that ring if you want.” he smiled “Well my good man it does a number of things. You can say it gives me an extra power boost and boost… Everything? I get stronger, faster, more cunning, pretty much unstoppable and Jo I want you to have that same power.” He cleared his throat, it was itme to stop beating around the bush with these two. “I need to be honest, I want you both on my team. I know you don’t like me too much Stauben but it’d benefit the both of you.” he began looking at the Digimon, “I care about Jo a lot, and even if you never like me I don’t want to see her hurt.” he closed his eyes becoming wrapped in thought. “There’s a war coming, and I don’t want to see either of you caught in it.” the oncoming war was coming but he didn’t know when. “If you join you can live here, gain power, and have a supporting cast like no other, whenever you need help you’ll have someone there. Yes you have each other but that’d be extra strength on your side.”

Jo glanced back down at the ring. Keep it? She hated accepting gifts, and she didn't have anything to offer in return, but if it made her stronger... She clenched her fist, the cool metal of the ring pressing into her skin. The Digital War was a dangerous place, and she needed every edge she could get. Strauben had been lecturing her on that for the past fortnight. It was time to listen. "Thanks," she said, sincerely but a little uncertainly. She offered Leyton a sheepish smile to offset her strange tone of voice.

"Strauben doesn't like anyone," Jo added in an undertone while Leyton made his announcement. A team? A war? Jo had never been very good with people, and the idea of being part of a team made her stomach knot with anxiety. But... they would be people on her side, people who cared about her. So that made it easier, right?

Jo wrung her hands together and looked at the ground for a few moments, collecting her thoughts. "I-I trust you. And I think Strauben does, too—" she glanced at Strauben and smiled wryly— "or at least doesn't not trust you. So... I'm game." She twisted the ring back and forth on her finger thoughtfully. "I never thought things would be so volatile here. Strauben's r-really strong already, but we could use the help. A support network."

I AM NOT A BAD MAN even though i do bad things It was going to be a suck to get a new ring, but he wanted her in the ground and her accepting it might just gain Ringbound a new member if she plays his cards right. “You won’t regret this, buuuut that’s the thing. I need that ring so we can get yours.”, his blood was in the gem, it wouldn’t help her digimon with Dark Digivolution if it wasn’t hers.   “We’ll get you a new one later, for now just hang on to mine,” he laughed, his finger was killing him, he gashed himself pretty bad, but it was worth it to get Joe in the Ring.   He chuckled at the mention of her Digimon not liking anyone, that was probably more than certain, he was a roughneck after all, no time nor pity for anyone but himself. She went on to mention that her partner was strong already, which was good, confidence was good but Strauben was nowhere near Leyton, and that could be changed in an instant.   “I’m happy you trust me,” he offered his hands to the both of them, a handshake to symbolize them entering Ringbound. “You won’t regret this.” he smiled. “Though I must warn you, once you enter you’ll feel strength like no other you’ve ever felt.”

Jo tentatively took Leyton's hands, lightly gripping them, but then with a little surge of confidence, grasped them tighter and grinned at the white-haired man. Yeah, this felt right. She liked Leyton, even if he was pretty strange at times, and she needed to get stronger — quickly, before the tide of war truly set in. Strauben deserved that much from her. A team would help support her, help whip her into shape, help guard against the brutalities inherent when you gave a bunch of average Joes actual, living monsters. This was right.

The ring dug into both of their skins as they gripped hands, a cool reminder of things to come.

After a moment, Jo released her grip and hooked her thumbs in the belt loops of her jeans. "Now what?" she asked, a little impishly. "Do we spit on our palms and shake on it? Though I think we could do without such ceremony."

A few more heartbeats as Jo mulled over this turn of events. "So — what is this team? Does it have a name? A, ah, purpose?" Strauben, having zoned out, showed renewed interest in the conversation at this, albeit only in the slight perking of lupine ears as he continue to stare at the ground and scuff his paws against the sand. "A leader?"

Ugh he was going to need to Triple bandage his finger dear because seeing her smile was well worth it. Having her around would definitely make the meetings more interesting, having anyone who he could consider a friend around was pleasant. “Well we certainly won’t need to spit shake” he chuckled, her tone was sweet full of optimism and what only could be described as mischief. “I will need to tell you a few things, follow me, I’ll explain over lunch.” He began down the nearest sidewalk gesturing for the duo to follow. “For starters, the Ringbound is the name and it is a group of individuals with multiple goals, no ties, no real team goal, if there’s something one of us want we help each other the goal is to help each other get stronger.” he rubbed his chin, “ As far as a leader, well there’s Claire, but she only made the group, but she isn’t the leader, there is no leader, or at least she doesn’t act as one.” Snapping his fingers, the most important thing about the group came to mind, “We’re allied with lord Plutomon, and a good number of us are joining his side in the war, but it’s optional, and we are going to have to get you fitted for a gauntlet and figure out what Strau’s Dark Digivolution is.” they had much to do, though the idea was touchy they both could benefit from the power boost.

IN WHICH STRAUBEN IS REALLY HUNGRY

Ahh, lunch! Now if there was a way into Jo's heart, it was through food. She hadn't yet sampled any Digital World cuisine, having instead subsisted on whatever packed lunches she could smuggle across from the Real World, on the rare occasion that she ventured back. She'd been back to her little flat a lot less lately, only when she couldn't find a safe spot to camp out or needed more supplies. After all, the Real World paled in comparison to the glamour of the Digital World — and running around with her partner, training or on missions, was a lot more bearable than a 9-5 job five days out of the week.

As Leyton forged ahead, back onto the beach-side boardwalk, Jo followed with a little hop to her step, her outlook a lot brighter now that she had a tangible goal in sight. The white-haired man explained the basics of the team — their unifying goal or lack thereof, their kind of leader, their social structure — and then mentioned something that took Jo a bit by surprise. Dark digivolution? She knew about digivolution, but she hadn't heard of dark digivolution. It sounded... rather ominous.

"What's that? Dark digivolution?" she asked, a little helplessly. Strauben,who had definitely perked up at the mention of lunch and looked distinctly less grumpy as he trailed behind the two tamers, gave a little hum of thought. He didn't bother to explain, though, leaving the task to Leyton. His tamer tended to be on the wide-eyed naive side, and he wasn't sure how to condense "taking dark emotions to evolve into a destructive monster for a short period of time" into something digestible.

I AM NOT A BAD MAN even though i do bad things “Ah, well Dark Digivolution is a hot topic around here, it unleashes a lod of your Digimon’s latent power through obtaining a rampant form.” he began. “Though the main cost is your partner’s sanity for a short time, he wouldn’t hurt you but he would however hrt anyone else. It’s not as bad as it sounds once you get the hang of it.”   Leyton cheerfully led the duo in the direction of one of his favorite eateries in the area. Triton was ridden with fancy restaurants, bars, and other restaurants but nothing could top Mug’s coffee, one of the few human owned joints in the digital world. The trio would soon end up in front of the establishment after a few more minutes of walking “It’s a cafe so order anything you like, they run a bakery too so there’s a ton of variety.” he beamed opening the door for the Tamer and Digimon.   “Come on in,” he gestured for them to enter.
