Welcome to Terabyte City!
It was still into Alexiel’s first month in the Digital World, and while there were still plenty of things he hadn’t yet figured out, at least he wasn’t the lost soul he had been when he first arrived. He had his new 'partners' to thank for that - as much as they called themselves 'young' or 'inexperienced', they were brilliant tour guides.
Even if they weren’t the
most knowledgable, they knew who to talk to, who to find. Whenever they couldn’t explain something to him, either because they didn’t know, or because they simply couldn’t phrase it in a way he’d understand, they’d always find a way to make sure he’d get it. They wouldn’t give up - and he was grateful for that. They helped him. So it was the least he could do to pay them a visit daily, and care for them as best he could.
"So this is the great 'Terabyte City' you’ve been telling me about, huh?" Alexiel hummed, gazing at his surroundings. His eyes were alight with excitement and curiosity, and the beginnings of a smile teased at his lips. The other cities were nothing compared to this - Terabyte was truly the largest settlement in the whole Digital World. It was
huge…and simply breathtaking for a newcomer like himself.
"Oh, wow…"Alexiel felt like a child in a candy store, sorely tempted to run around and explore
every inch of the city…But he wouldn’t, not with the way he was brought up - that’d hurt his pride a little
too much for his taste. So instead he opted to walk around with his twin partners, admiring the tall buildings and street stalls that the city had to offer.
That would be enough to sate his curiosity for now.
"Ooooh, hey, tamer! Have you seen Lillymon’s stall yet? It’s really pretty, filled with bouquets and tons of flowers and everything!" If Alexiel hadn’t known better, he’d had already bought into Leila’s ploy of getting him to buy some flowers for her. Innocent as she seemed, the female Tokomon had quite the ability to get others to do what she wanted. Once, a few days after meeting the pair, Alexiel remembered distinctly how she had gotten a Wingdramon to buy the trio some snacks. It was…frightening, to say the least, seeing someone so young show such skill in manipulation.
"Hmph, flowers are nothing…They don’t have any practical use, other than to make things look pretty. I’d say that if we had to buy anything, it’d be food - the bread Burgamon makes is always good. It’s also a better waste of money." Well, Vesper had a point there. If there was anything Alexiel would spend their bits on, it’d be something that would prove of use to them. Although they did have enough to splurge a little here and there, he’d still liked to save them whenever he could.
"Hm, Leila…I would have to-" Before he could finish what he was going to say, however, a young
human girl had run up to them…or more precisely,
into Alexiel. It was by pure luck he hadn’t fallen over from the shock and impact.
"H-hey, kid, be careful, alright? You could end up hurting yourself…or others!" It was a near effortless slip to his worrisome, awkward yet friendly persona as he placed a hand on the girl’s shoulder, steadying both himself and her.
"Whatcha doing here, hm? You look quite young…Where are your parents? Or erm…Digimon Partner?" As he’d come to know, humans who came to the Digital World always tended to end up with a partner…unless, as Vesper had called them, they were 'spirit users'…whatever that meant.
"W-wait…a-are you alright?" Worry laced his voice as he took in the girl’s appearance - she looked thin, unnaturally so, and her clothes were dirty, disheveled. That wasn’t right.
"Oooh, does little girly want some food? Lexie! Get her some food!" Leila’s request as she bounced up and down on the spot sounded more like an order than anything, and in her high-pitched voice of hers, it made the noble laugh. In a way, the Tokomon was rather…cute.
"Alright, alright…Here, little one…Sorry it’s not much." Alexiel reached into his bag, pulling out a ziploc containing a loaf of bread. With a soft smile he gave it to the girl, ziploc and all - after all, he could always buy more.
"Take care, ok…?"Then she ran off, and the young tamer looked on after her with that never-fading smile of his, only taking his eyes off a little after her leaving to turn to Leila who was busy trying to nibble on his shoe. It was only after he had gently pushed her away did he noticed that two certain things was missing…
"Hey, where’s my wallet? …And where did Vesper go to?"————
He had seen what looked like a small bipedal dragon snatch something from Alexiel, and granted, he should have followed the digimon, but when Alexiel spoke to the girl… his attention had been diverted, and when he returned his gaze to where that digimon once was, he was gone. But the Tokomon had his suspicions about the digimon being with the girl - after all, it had shown up when that girl had
conveniently bumped into Alexiel.
Couldn’t be a coincidence, or at least that’s what he thought. So when the girl left, he followed, completely ignoring the fact that Alexiel was too busy with Leila to notice his departure. If the tamer couldn’t keep up, then so be it. They’d find him later anyways…they always would.
"Look Aster-san, the man gave this to me."
Peeking out from behind…well, the other side of the dumpster - ew, it
stunk - Vesper saw the digimon again, with the girl with him. Aha! He
knew the two were in cahoots with each other, it was just so easy to guess! But the question was if he had seen right that the digimon had stolen something from Alexiel… Otherwise he’d look like a big fool. But! If he didn’t try anything, then if the digimon
had stolen something…they’d get away! He couldn’t have that…even though there were a lot of 'if’s.
"Hey!" So he gathered up his courage, bounded from his little hiding spot… and almost crashed into the wall opposite. But he shook it off, jumping and turning around to face the pair.
"So…" Well, he couldn’t really outright just shout 'did you steal something?!', now could he?
"Are you two going to be able to handle yourselves?"Well, it wasn’t like it
wasn’t a warranted question. The two did seem to have a little… problem with the way they were living.
We hope to see you again!
