Running from it all my lifetime
It worked.
Despite being still when she had pressed the button to transfer her into this... place, the shock of it actually working caused Mayumi to stagger back in surprise, nearly tripping her own feet in the process. Wide eyed and heart wanting to leap out of her chest, the girl turned every which way, back and forth, to try to get her bearings.
She'd appeared in what appeared to be an abandoned mansion's courtyard. For a moment blue eyes stared blankly at the building, although her thoughts weren't on it- Mayu had froze, her mind running a million miles an hour. Digivice was clutched in her hand so tightly that her wrists cramped.
It had worked. Again.
Remembering where she was, the girl suddenly scrambled for no real reason, nearly dropping her Digivice in the process. Her eyes fixated on the lit screen, which was entirely blank. "H-hey! Are you there?" Her voice was simultaneously high pitched and soft, a desperate whisper to a friend that may or may not be there. After no reply was received, she swallowed- no, she was doing it all wrong. "Hh- okay, um..." She took a deep breath in an attempt to steady her voice, though it only managed to steady some of the shake in her next words.
"T-this is Mayumi calling Command. Command, come in- execute spirit evolution!"
The words that showed up made her stomach leap with relief.
Identity accepted: Welcome, Mayumi
At once, light surrounded her body, along with a familiar, almost nostalgic pain, both sharp and aching. But it only lasted momentarily- or perhaps longer, but she didn't notice it when her vision cleared, a high tech HUD now replacing her regular human vision. Information flooded into her mind and seemed to be adding constantly. It would have been overwhelming were it not for the grace of Command's filter, assisting the girl's mind in assimilating the information it needed.
Mayumi, it has been approximately 2 years since your last visit.
'I know,' she answered, knowing very well it could hear her. 'I'm sorry. I know I told you I would come back.'
I do not comprehend. You came back.
Do not apologize.
Do not apologize.
A simple statement, and from an apparent computer no less, but one Mayu somehow found immense comfort in. 'I have so much to tell you,' she replied in her mind. 'And... thank you, for last time.'
